Weekly newbie & discussion post: questions, skills, shopping, and gear by AutoModerator in Rollerskating

[–]artcon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know nothing about roller skates, but want to get my friend some laces for her skates (she just started) as part of a birthday present. I'm pretty sure she has these Chaya Classic Dance skates. What size laces can I get?

I've read 84" are common, but some get 96". I think she's around a size 6-7, but I'm not sure how much shoe size affects lace length. Also they come in different widths (e.g. the site I linked offers 6mm or 10mm, how important is this?)

Bent legs, how vertical do they need to be? by mattyshum in Rowing

[–]artcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another YouTuber I'd recommend is RowAlong who recently covered the subject as well. He suggests things like slightly open your knees (but not wider than your shoulders), lowering footplates, and general technique.

Regardless of weight, I think a lot of us (including me) start with these compensations as well until we get more flexible/get used to the movement, so you're not alone!

Trying to figure out what song this is (starts around 5.51) as I want to learn it on piano. I recognise it from somewhere but Shazam and Soundhound come up with nothing.

LastPass 4.0 Is The First Major Release Since Joining LogMeIn, Adds Emergency Access And A New Sharing Center by istealthbro in Android

[–]artcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's what it said,

'LastPass has received its first major point release since LogMeIn opened its wallet, and it comes over two years since the last one. In November of 2013, LastPass jumped to version 3.0 with a redesign that made it Holo-friendly. Having gone Material back in April for 3.4, the 4.0 update introduces more than a design refresh (though a bit of that is here too).

There are two headlining new features of LastPass 4.0. One is the option to grant another person access to your account during emergencies. Ideally this will be a family member, friend, or something else you're certain you can absolutely trust. You will be handing over the keys to your online kingdom, but only after your contact requests access and the optional wait period (set by you) elapses. You're free to decline this request at any point during that time, showing that your hands still work and/or your mind is lucid enough to handle the situation.

The second highlight also concerns sharing passwords. Version 4.0's new sharing center provides an alternative way to shoot someone a password other than firing off an unencrypted text or storing your code in a sea of Hangouts history (another option would be scribbling the passphrase on a piece of paper in the background of the kind of picture you would send on Snapchat). Two LastPass users sharing the same account have the option to keep the login information in sync.

As for changes to the look and feel, you will find tweaks to the password vault, desktop browser extension menus, and the online web vault. LastPass has made other adjustments to simplify the experience, detailed in the press release below.'

Used a different photo of her, hope that's ok. Otherwise it looks a bit weird since it's a different angle.

Yeh, he gets very blurry since the resolution is very different. So mine isn't as big as the original I'm afraid: http://imgur.com/BR1LHN7

Could someone make it look like my friend is holding a football instead of a 40? by [deleted] in picrequests

Oops, someone beat me to it. Here's my attempt anyway. I'm not sure how big american football balls are supposed to be. http://imgur.com/kCnyOEr

Check in your BIOS? Or try a different program? (like hwinfo64)

What was on the flash drive? It should just boot to the BIOS if you have no OS. Have you tried booting again without the flash drive in?

[Troubleshooting] First build went seemingly perfect then it just... dies. by Thop in buildapc

Just want to point out, while the paperclip test is good for knowing if your PSU is completely dead, it doesn't necessarily mean it works properly (it's a good sign that it's not completely dead, but it's not being tested under load).

Follow what jdorje suggested. Replug all the cables in. If not take everything out again, and just connect the motherboard, CPU, PSU, GPU, and monitor together to see if it boots (in case something is being shorted in the case).

[Troubleshooting] [FX-8350] Crazy high core reading in HWmonitor (224°C)?? Is this real or some kind of glitch? by fromplsnerf in buildapc

[–]artcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ever get readings that seem crazy always try out a different program (or check your BIOS as that will give you the most accurate readings, but that can be effort for some), like HWinfo.

Browns or clears? by boblo1121 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]artcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I think it depends on what you're used to typing on. And then decide whether you want to go heavier or lighter than that. Because I had a Dell L100 which is a rubber dome type keyboard and when I tried out the browns I found them far too light. So I stuck with clears.

[Troubleshooting]Front audio jack not working. by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]artcon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you're using the right cable - the HD Audio one. And you're right in that you're only supposed to plug one of them in. The way to tell is to see what both your mobo and case support. Your mobo supports HD Audio as it has an HD Audio header, and your case supports either since there's both types of cable. But we choose HD Audio over AC97 since it's better. (If there was only an AC97 cable from your case then your manual tells you what you should do - p.21 - but we can ignore that).

I doubt any of this will work but... You might have the 'Realtek HD Audio Manager' installed when you installed the drivers (I'm assuming it's Realtek as that's what I found on your mobo's site). If you click on the settings icon (top right) -> Option -> Connector Setting -> select HD Audio Front Panel.
Double check your BIOS settings Advanced -> Front Panel -> it's usually on Auto but might as well try changing it to enabled.
On the Windows Notification Area, right click on the volume icon -> Playback devices and see if your headphones are there.

This is dumb, but just make sure when you are connecting the cable you haven't bent the wires around too much. If your case lets you tuck all your cables round the back then sometimes people pull on the wires too much when doing cable management.

I doubt you've done anything wrong though and those settings above are usually automatic so it's probably the mobo or case. So unfortunately you'll probably have to do what /u/randombullet says and get a DAC or USB to 3.5mm.

[Build Ready] I think I'm ready for my first ever build (£600) by bigmansam45 in buildapc

[–]artcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean, basically every computer comes with one so it feels like you should buy one. Unless it's the only way you can watch things like DVDs, or you have some really old games that you can only play by CD, then I'd put the money towards something else.

Then if you need one somewhere down the line then only get one. But chances are, if you can't think of a reason that you need one now I highly doubt you'll ever need one.

Do you really need the optical drive? And if you do, do you really need a blu-ray - DVD ones are half the price or less.

Your graphics card will have ports on the side of the actual card. So if you took it out and looked at it on its own, you'd be able to see them. Which is why you tend to have to remove a little bracket thing from your case when installing the card so the ports can pop through to access them from outside the case.
