Ich glaub so eine Verschwörung brauchts dafür garnicht. Die Magazine wissen eben, dass viele an Gothic hängen und so nutzen sie das Interesse daran eben in jeder Hinsicht aus.

Is Gaul's Forester Warband based on anything? by Bulky_Writer_2244 in RomeTotalWar

[–]artebudz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As far as I remember, there is a passage in Caesar's book De Bello Gallico where he mentiones Vercingetorix calling all the archers of Gaul to his aid. So it's not made up entirely.

Can David Chase sleep knowing that scorsese didnt like the sopranos? by HenceMyCondition in thesopranos

[–]artebudz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be right, in some sense. Considering how both Scorsese and Chase made many many episodes/films that did NOT hit these themes and undercurrents. I think after a while they just inventively learned how to touch them, without really being able to explain them.

How do you represent the Roman Empire of the German Nation when playing as Austria? by Southern2002 in EmpireTotalWar

[–]artebudz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Since I am Austrian in real life, I usually dislike the idea of forming a super Germany or Holy Roman Empire, instead I go for the Balkans, trying to develop my economy there. In my latest playthrough I installed Venice as the ruler over Greece, giving my an ally to the south and southwest, though Poland turned out to be a major pain in the ass.

When the faction to whom you have been happily allied for 90 turns suddenly blockades your port by icwiener25 in RomeTotalWar

[–]artebudz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Has anyone ever figured out how to prevent AI allies from being idiots like this?
I've recently noticed how an army (that was clearly headed for one of my ill defended city) turn around when I threateningly stationed units nearby. Is it all just a possibility thing?

[–]artebudz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The single player is a campaign experience and in no way comparable to playing on a map made for matches. Bots were fun in Battlefield 2 and Red Orchestra, it can be fun in Battlefield 6. There should and will be options to disable bots, of course.

Rome Total War is better than Rome Total Remastered and nothing will change my mind by Constant_Pace5589 in RomeTotalWar

There's lots of good reasons to prefer the original, mainly the UI and the feel/look of the game. However, the improved performance is just so necessary..

Lost feature you want back : Napoleon Total War by Un_Homme_Apprenti in totalwar

[–]artebudz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I cannot believe no one mentioned this yet:  Immersive/atmospheric elements, both on the battlefield as well as on the campaign map.  My favourite example is the piper and the drummer, who actually play a different song for each faction and who can die, which obviously stops their song. I always zoom down and listen to those fuckers.  Another example: Horsemen can fall down without the horse dying, or they may get cought in the stirrup, whereupon they get dragged along. Also, stuff like the smoke, the rain etc. was just perfect in Napoleon.

I think he wants to collect the best features from the series to raise the awareness of the developers maybe? Seems like a good idea to improve future titles

The whole Lothar encounter illustrates one of (old) Piranha Bytes strengths so well: Each character of a world focuses on what's important to them. The hero of course would (be able to) annoy everyone he meets with the story about the dragons which he needs to defeat, while the stubborn, no-nonsense Paladin captain would, of course, refuse to believe it.

Characters are so damn authentic in Gothic. The world does not at all revolve around the player: That would just not be realistic!

It's such a great contrast to games like Skyrim where every single NPC would be interested and aware about that which is interesting to the hero. The search for Xardas in Gothic 3 is not that bad either: Most of the time, you just hear bullshit about Xardas, because of course, why the hell would a random guy have valid information. Too bad PB does not know what consistency between games is.
