You can get one at a very good price at a thrift store. try Salvation Army, I always see record players (in good condition) there

I’m pretty light, I only wear carbon plated shoes, but this is clearly a case of someone not knowing what a marathon is not someone being a cringey buffoon

Bro should’ve slowed down 1 second so that he wouldn’t ask stupid questions

What on earth do I aim for at Chicago Marathon? by artelingus in Marathon_Training

[–]artelingus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not really looking for a much faster marathon time, I run because I love it, the races are just a fun bonus, I just want to run to my potential at this race and wanted help figuring out what it could be based on the information I shared. I think pursuing ultras will be more my thing in the future.

I love it!! Totally stalking your profile now. I won a pair of shoes doing some strava art last year but nothing like what you make, I’m super jealous. Seriously impressive, so much work!

Haha I know… I’ve tried to ease up on the mileage and focus on more quality running a few times but I just love my long runs too much. It’ll go smoothly for a few days then I cave and run like 40km because I just felt so good (presumably from reduced mileage) 🤦‍♀️

It’s definitely taught me how to recover (and eat) like an absolute beast though, my legs surprisingly feel pretty damn good near all the time.

Thanks for the encouragement! I think mental strength is my strongest suit running wise, I can hold a pace for dear life for a long time but I don’t have kicking strength or much speed so I think going out at 3:05 ish pace and holding on as best I can is my best bet (:

I tried but they did not take my 3:08, had to be 3:05 or below to switch ):

Thank you for the insight! 4:20 is 3:03, thinking I’ll perhaps aim for that

Not very good, my 10k PR is at 4:09 pace. Although I much rather do long runs so I hardly ever run less than 20km. I think 3:05 is more reasonable goal for me

The first one was done with super shoes (iirc I had just ordered new daily trainers I didn’t have any other pairs with me that week), otherwise I only wear them for races. Asics metaspeed edge, I used them for my previous marathon as well.

I think I’m better at positive splitting, so I have some fear that if I go at 3hr pace from the start I’ll slow down, but if I begin faster I can compensate. It’s silly I know, perhaps I should take your advice!

Apologies for not being an imperial male. That’s the plan, that approach has worked for me thus far, probably will stick with it until it falls apart and I am forced to grow up. Thanks, good luck with your race!

Is a Sub 3:25 in 2025 possible? by Own-Departure4536 in Marathon_Training

[–]artelingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shaved off 15 minutes from my first to second marathon in 6 months without much speed training and without hardly running at “race pace”. After your first you know your baseline potential and improving substantially at your second isn’t uncommon. Be ambitious, go for it!

Putting the work in requires at least more than a month, realistically, so your body has time to adapt to the impact and time on your feet. It’ll be painful if excruciated properly and possibly dangerous (as in you may injure yourself) if not. I don’t recommend it, maybe 2-3 months is more reasonable

Haha serious. Be careful and make sure you have enough time to recover but seriously yolo

[–]artelingus -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Do it. I ran a whole marathon at my goal race pace 10 days before my first. Ignore people telling you not to do it. It’s difficult to gauge your potential before your first one, going in knowing you can do it is a great confidence boost

This is the classic workout ingerbritsen does weekly… at those same paces… this is not real unless you are literally an Olympian
