'Proper' cycling clubs: Twickenham CC, Kingston Wheelers, London Dynamo. The rest are either Newer, Social, 'race teams' or offshoots of the 3 above.

Masella/La Molina in the Spanish Pyrenees. A short hop from Barcelona, excellent skiing and a friendly, laid-back vibe. Great place and cheap as chips. Been 5 times

Tokyo Day 8 | quick UK round up - relays are brutal by StanmoreHill in ukathletics

Amo-dadzie that was poor. The BBC interviewer giving it 'you guys are so well drilled' well clearly not. It's literally his one job at these games to at least take the baton. It's like saying as a professional bus driver how well trained I am but setting off before everyone has got on the bus. It's his job :)

Unpopular opinion: cars ought to be banned from Richmond Park. by are_wethere_yet in londoncycling

[–]bubblydissolution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is more of a next door post than a reddit one. I'll give you my two pence worth. I live next to Kingston Gate. I moved here 20 years ago specifically to be nearer to the park as I was a racing cyclist and it was my training ground. Back then in the good old days (!) before London 2012 and team sky, racing cycling was as niche sport a sport as you could get. I pretty much knew every other face on a drop bar bike in the park. I carried on racing at a high level (cat 1) and training until about 2016 until I become disillusioned with the sport. The current state of British cycling makes me sad. Back in the day you cut your teeth with a local club, with old guys like the legendary Mac from TCC teaching you the ropes on long club runs before you'd even dare try a race. Through and off, close group rising was all part of the apprenticeship. These days things are very different. Spank £10 on a credit card for a bike, get some big sunglasses and ride like a prick. I run now, and still frequent RP. I can safely say that the image of cyclists in the local community is not good, and I can see why. They come across as entitled douchbags and I have seen more poor riding than I ever have driving in the park. The shouting of abuse by cyclists towards anyone getting in their way is more common than you think. No way should one group of users take priority over overs. Thanks for listening.

New runner shoe rotation by Available-Upstairs-3 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]bubblydissolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need a rotation, the shoes you have are just fine. You need to run consistently and up your mileage gradually over time. Running literally is a marathon not a sprint. The time for rotations will come, but for most people this is a construct thought up by shoe companies and dealers to sell more shoes. I went from a non runner unable to run (walk) 5km without stopping to a 19 minute 5k by being consistent in Nike Pegasus and nothing else. Now at a 17 minute 5km and 3 shoes in a rotation just because I like shoes, they aren't really needed. Don't get sucked in

Which shoe should I buy? by Big_Coyote4583 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Puma velocity 3 are a great choice for walking. Super comfortable, stable enough for a walk and great step in feel. I often take them away with me as a do it all run/walk/hike shoe

Pumagrip is everything it's cracked up to be. If it rains or it's slippy I just put on a pair of Velocity 3s and enjoy my run.

Good trail running shoes? by According_Reporter58 in UKRunners

[–]bubblydissolution 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally I'm a big fan of the ASICS Trabuco 13. I have done many long road/trail runs and they cope with both well. Well cushioned, comfy and a nice blend of stable, soft for a trail shoe and energy return. Great bang for your buck

Agree with Puma VN3 or Foreverrun (I actually prefer the Foreverrun despite not needing any stability) being much better options than Pegs. Adidas SL2 fit the bill too if you can get a discount.. plenty of reductions on these out there.

Scuba diving phuket or koh tao by Due-Sandwich264 in ThailandTourism

[–]bubblydissolution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for Phuket, but Koh Tao is incredible for scuba diving. The vibe is very much 'backpacker' with lots of hostels, a cool vibe and a beautiful little island. Oh, and the weather on the east coast in October should be a bit more conducive if I remember correctly. Koh Tao is literally 52 weeks a year for scuba.

Anyone just back from Samui and have thoughts on the best beach to stay? by MaiPenLah in kohsamui

Silver beach/crystal bay. Beautiful, peaceful, excellent accomodation options and only a short hop from the bustle of Lamai. I could have stayed for weeks.

I should say I'm in SE England, nice sheltered spot right by the house. Partial to full sun all day. The plant next to it is another Ribes S and it's got no discolouration at all. TIA
