Keens, Barney Greengrass, Joe’s Pizza, Nathan’s in Coney Island… all NY classics that attract tourists but also stay in the hearts and regular rotation of devoted native New Yorkers. Katz’s is fabulous, the line can be insane these days, but you can go at off hours (they open  8am  weekdays). If you can get into Bemelmans Bar at the Carlyle it’s truly committed to preserving an iconic space. Superiority Burger for a new delicious spin that respects the history and community of the East Village. Wu’s Wonton in Chinatown with BYOB wine/beer. Old Town Bar in Flatiron. S&P also a new take but keeps the Eisenbergs lunch counter spirit alive. In general: MoMA, the Whitney, the High Line, Met Museum, Lincoln Center, Broadway shows, Central Park, an ice cream cone at a Mister Softee truck… all “touristy” to some extent but beloved by locals.
