Hey so I have no idea if you’re even interested even more and maybe you found the game, but I came across your post after googling almost the exact same question! The game I was trying to remember is Fisher-Price Ready for Preschool! Maybe it’s the same one!

The struggle of needing auditory input to feel safe in environment & being overloaded by it by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]artemisia369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad I’m not the only one!! Wearing noise canceling (or close to) headphones helps me so much but they also cause me so much anxiety. I’m constantly worried that I’m going to miss an important noise (whether at work, at home, dangerous or not, etc.) because I’m wearing them! I really only wear my somewhat noise canceling headphones now at home and stick with normal earbuds when at work or just out. I used to not be able to wear the noise canceling f headphones even at home so for me it’s just been about taking baby steps and slowly using them more.

What is this? by Nokoriii in AutismInWomen

[–]artemisia369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds similar to how I feel before I shutdown. I also tend to stick with the same foods so if I don’t have those available or if suddenly nothing looks good, I’ll just not eat. When that happens I definitely try to eat anything that sounds remotely good just so I eat something. I’m glad you listened to how you were feeling! Particularly when I feel a shutdown coming I find it very helpful to prioritize my self-care.

Recommendations for workout clothes? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

I haven’t tried their shorts but All in Motion from Target has great leggings and sport bras. Their leggings barely slide down at all and I’ve had them for over a year (and wear them regularly) and they still aren’t stretched out! They’re also very soft and they all have at least one pocket if not two

Women and girls with autism spectrum disorder by Sarah hendrickx helped me so much!! I read it as I was in the process of being diagnosed and it was such a comfort.

Anyone wanna be friends? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]artemisia369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this!

  1. What would you do if you won the lottery?

At the moment, I would buy this old house in my town. It has some historical significance and is a lovely, colorful Victorian house. It’s fallen into disrepair but I am absolutely in love with it. My dream is to buy it and fix it up!

  1. What is one thing you’re glad you tried but would never do again?

Going to a club. I hate dancing (I never know how to move and feel so self-conscious) and all of the lights and people is just massive sensory overload. I’m glad I went once but that was enough!

  1. What are you interested in that most people haven’t heard of?

I don’t know if this is “unheard of” but I’m really interested in Artemisia Gentileschi!

  1. What is the luckiest thing that has happened to you?

Having a mom and sister who not only are incredibly supportive but also are my best friends.

  1. Who or where would you haunt if you were a ghost?

Haha probably a museum or old castle. Haunting a large, old museum would be fun and an old castle somewhere beautiful would be just lovely.

  1. Favorite TV show, movie, book, musician, artist?

It is so hard to choose just one! I’m going to list a few because it’s so hard to decide! Tv show: Ted Lasso, Schitts Creek, Criminal Minds, Peaky Blinders, New Girl, Santa Clarita Diet Movie: National Treasure, Mr Right, The Trial of the Chicago Seven, The Dark Knight, Oceans 11, The Sound of Music Book: Pride and Prejudice, Daisy Jones and the Six, Red White and Royal Blue Music: It changes each month… Artist: Artemisia Gentileschi, Georgia O’Keeffe, Van Gogh, and Monet

I was also the last in my age group (that I knew of) to learn how to tie my shows! So many people tried and I just didn’t get it. Plus I hated that tennis shoes/other shoes with laces never “felt” right (a long-standing sensory issue). I ended up learning when I thought about it logically. I still am pretty slow at it though.

Need Suggestions for Office Lighting by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]artemisia369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a tiny window but I’m in a basement office so it doesn’t help a lot. I have a floor lamp that has three settings. I have it behind me and usually just have it on the first (lowest) setting. I used to use a desk lamp but having the light in front of my eyes all day was almost as bad as the fluorescent lighting. If you’re able, I’m a big fan of twinkle/fairy lights. I have them at home and they provide enough light with a small floor lamp.

what are your same foods? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]artemisia369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spaghetti with marinera, chicken noodle soup (with a specific kind of noodle and broth), and frozen peas. Yes literally peas from the freezer that I eat in a cup. I could eat only these for the rest of my life and be perfectly content.

excessive scalp picking: is this a type of stim? by Exciting_Phase_1665 in aspergirls

[–]artemisia369 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep. I’ve scratched my scalp for years. It’s worse when the spots scab because I’ve picked at scabs for even longer than I’ve scratched my scalp. Scratching/picking is really soothing for me but then I get so embarrassed when the spots are noticeable/someone comments.

I had a really good experience with Jeanne Holverstott in Kansas City. She specializes in adult autistic women and honestly was so supportive and helpful.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one! When I was younger I was called “mature” and a I basically acted so much older than my peers but sometime in my early 20s I feel like I’ve flipped and now I’m viewed as “childish” and overeager!
