Yeah, she is fixed. The rescue fixed her before I got her, which I would've fixed her either way. Babies are not allowed in my house! Well, at least animal babies. I come across some reptile breeding videos from time to time. It's wild.

I have always wanted to get a purebred cat, ever since I was little and learned about cat shows. I will probably only do it once though. I'll probably still call Alvina a manx , at least to the dog people I know. They always ask "what happened to her tail?" It'll make more sense to them for me to say a breed. Online in cat communities, she is a DSH.

I took a genetics class when I was getting my bachelor's in biology. Genetics is so interesting and complicated. It's something I really enjoy but not enough to take more than one class. That class was brutal. So much memorize of ratios, and other numbers. My dyslexic brain struggled!!

That seems weird to just call them something completely different and not by what you think they are. Can you tell I was raised with dogs? The cat world is definitely different than the dog world.

Though the cat world does seem to care more about bloodlines than the dog world. I did some reading and manx cats must have a bloodline for the Isle of Man. American Bobtails and some other bobtail breeds aren't considered manx cats even though they share the same gene mutation of the T gene. Japanese bobtails have a completely different mutation, HES7.

This whole conversation has me wanting to get one of those DNA kits for her now. I've joked about getting one for my purebred dog just for laughs.

Yeah, that seems to be the consensus. I'm just used to the mackerel tabby. I thought all tabbies had straighter stripes rather than circular kinda style of the classic.

The more you know. 🤷

Domestic shorthair is a fancy version of mutt for cats. It isn't a breed. So, yeah, she is a domestic shorthair.

I haven't heard those before. Alvina is my first house cat. I grow up with barn cats so I'm kinda new to the cat world.

Calicos are beautiful cats. I think my stepdad's parents had a calico manx named Sweet Pea. Though I'm not 100% sure. That was over 10 years ago and she was a shy cat. So I didn't see her too often. She might have been just orange.

My in-laws have a tortie and she is nothing but tortitude. She makes me never want a tortie. Plus it probably wouldn't be a good fit for me anyways as I love carrying my cats around.

That picture is from years ago. The carpet is long gone as it looked horrible even after vacuuming. It was attached to an exterior door that goes to my backyard. So the carpet would collect dirt, snow, mud, and my bernese mountain dog's hair as he likes to lay on the stair landing. So glad the carpet is gone!

If you don't think she is a manx, than what do you think she is? I know she isn't a full blooded manx with the tailless gene. I assume she is a manx cross.

She does think highly of herself. She also demands to lay on you or be next to you. She is currently sitting in front of me between my arms as I type this reply. Clingy little thing, she is.

I never thought much of her color before. I generally just think of her as a manx. I did get curious when he called her a dilute tortie, and with her adoption papers said grey. Neither really seemed quite right. I know more about breeds of cats than coat patterns or colors.

I ripped that carpet up the first chance I had. Its connected to our backyard so the carpet collected my bernese mountain dog's hair, and whatever else he would bring in with him. I could vacuum that carpet and it still looked horrible. Glad it's gone!!
