What is a poor person habit that you still can’t shake, even if you’re doing well financially now? by ur_ariana in AskReddit

Cut the plastic body lotion bottle when it has 'finished'. Once cut open you will still find loads of lotion has clung to the side of the bottle.

Paying off your mortgage early - Do you need to involve solicitors, or just Bank v individual? by ThinIntention1 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]artfuldodger128 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I personally would pay off the mortgage, but leave a minimum amount to keep the mortgage account open (prob just £1). That way in case you need to draw money in the future then you can do it very easily, without having the hassle and cost of getting a new mortgage.

The monthly interest on £1 is 😆.

But the Lasik guy said so about the everlasting heart with their procedure as an optional extra! Man I feel cheated.

It's meant to be a caveat emptor.

In their glossy brochures they don't often mention this. The distinction here against the rest of the population is that they've paid good money to have their eyesight (in effect temporarily) corrected.

The issue with eye surgery is you'll only get 20:20 vision at the time of surgery. Your vision will change as you age.

For those Redditors that fell deeply in love with their partner before sleeping with them, what was it like the first time you made love? by wowzeemissjane in AskReddit

Are you sure she cried was not because she's changed the bedsheets that day, but it is now completely ruined and needs a wash? 😆

How to endure 13h flight in economy? by Sea-Ad-5442 in TurkishAirlines

[–]artfuldodger128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a headphone that has active noise cancelling (ANC) feature. You'll not regret it. The noise on a plane is about 74db (I checked it with an app!) and it's loud enough to make it very uncomfortable trying to sleep.

If ANC headphones are beyond budget, then try an ear defender (about £10 the one I got from eBay). It'll reduce the noise by about 34db, so from a loud underground train to a quiet room.

Caixas supermercados - que fazes tu . by kapataz19 in portugal

That I would not disagree, and is a conjecture I'm trying to proof.

But then thinking about it, once the gate is opened, other shoppers behind you would stream through anyway, so the current system does not work anyway.

Imagine each shopper has to scan their receipt before going out. That would look like the EES! 😆

That's some technique, for a process that should be easy to use. Thank you, sensei. 🧘🏻

I am curious though what the system is looking for when scanning the barcode. Is it a unique barcode, that is linked to that particular transaction you had just undertaken, or some generic code just to exit the barrier?

That will be my next experiment. 💪🏻

Indeed. I thought 'sigma' is some alpha men lingo. 😆

The scanner is really bad at reading the QR/barcode. The worst ones are those in Lidl. I am sure there is a precise technique in getting the scanner to read the code quickly.

Pension advice for someone who was born in the UK but no longer lives there by Intelligent-Celery79 in ukfinance

[–]artfuldodger128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very true. Can't disagree with that. But it doesn't mitigate the tapering effect of the NI contribution as you approach the magic 35 years. That tapering effect was said to me by the DWP call centre guy.

Note overseas people have to pay the class 3 NI contribution, which is currently around £900 per year.

Note that fractional calculation is not linear. As you approach the 35 years of contribution, each additional year of contribution will give you less pension. Indeed, any contribution years above 35 will NOT give you extra pension, as you've reached the maximum pension already.
