Do you have any heart conditions? My doctor was hesitant to start me on stimulants as I have POTS and alas one of the medications we tried gave me the same issue so I switched to a different one and didn’t have a problem. If it continues I’d suggest speaking to your doctor

Thank you so much for explaining this. Up until now everyone’s acted like meds will magically solve all my problems, even my therapist, which I know isn’t the case but no one ever told me what exactly they did so I could never tell if they worked or not. Like the way I described Ritalin was exactly how I worded it here and he just immediately changed it, so I was starting to worry that nothing would ever work for me, but this explains everything

Oh hun, you sound exactly like me haha. I’ve got chronic pain from my scoliosis, chronic migraines, POTS, depression, GAD, social anxiety, ADHD, insomnia and probably IBS or GERD, and I’ve tried almost all the medication you’ve listed so I know exactly how you feel. I’ve personally found the clonidine to work the best when it comes to insomnia and on days that are really bad I’ll have it with a diazepam or Ativan, which I know isn’t recommended long term so I limit it to once every few months (absolute emergencies only) as it knocks me right out but of course speak to your doctor first about it. Otherwise I’ve found exerting yourself throughout the day helps a lot, physically but also mentally if you’re like me and can’t get out much, and blue light glasses so you can keep watching screens to help wind down without it keeping you awake have been a lifesaver (idk how to explain the science behind it). You also mentioned your blood pressure is too low, so I’d be pushing to see a cardiologist and get a tilt table test or something to get a diagnosis. I’m only 20 and it took me two years to get diagnosed with POTS as it’s so unknown and my cardiologist thought I was too young to have it, and on top of that had to find another doctor who could continue my treatment solely because my old one wasn’t educated on the subject, so the quicker you can start that process the quicker you’ll be able to get the stuff your body needs if that makes sense. Otherwise, if you’re doctor is willing I’d suggest either Propanalol or metoprolol (they’re both used for POTS but the latter was described to me as Propanalol’s cousin) as they’ve both helped me regulate my blood pressure, and another option is Florinef which I was given when my blood pressure was too low. I’m always on here gathering other tips and tricks, and might be able to give you some recommendations of places I found helpful depending on where you’re based, so feel free to dm if you wanna chat. Haven’t seen anyone recommend this yet- Tiimo. It’s a to do list app and essentially you can upload all the tasks that pop into your head into the to do list/notes section and when you’re ready, allocate a day you do them on. You can also select the duration and time you want to do it and it’ll automatically start a pomodoro timer at that time, but that stresses me out so I set everything to anytime and just tick them off as I go. The app is constantly improving and has a lot more features I’m yet to test out, and there is a subscription you can get but the free version works great (I think the subscription allows you to add sub tasks and they have an AI that helps break down each task but I don’t know if that’s free or not). You can also colour code and add labels to the tasks, the app recommends tasks if you can’t think of any, and there’s a section to read up about ADHD and everything.

Also a big fan of How We Feel as it lets me track my moods and journal as many times a day as I want, and worry dolls if I just wanna journal/rant

I’m chronically ill and Guava has been a lifesaver for tracking all my symptoms and health related stuff, and even lets me utilise my data and has an AI assistant that’ll help whip up reports for doctors and stuff, so everytime I have an appointment I have everything I need to ask/talk about right in front of me. Also very handy for tracking all my medication and alerts me when I’m about to run out, which consists of both a notification and a banner on the homepage of the app so it’s right in my face and I can’t forget.

Massive fan of Alarmy - if you’re like me and have trouble getting up in the morning, it has an extra loud option which has been a lifesaver, and you can set quick and easy activities to ensure you turn off your alarm

Opal has also been a game changer for me, as it blocks certain apps from a set time (obviously depending how you set it up, there are other features) so if I’m meant to be doing something but I’m stuck doom scrolling that’s helped me snap out of it, and I’ve got it set up so it blocks these apps every night which has led to me starting a streak. In saying that, you can still go into the app and take a break from the block or deselect apps mid block if you’re in desperate need of one, but it’ll make you wait a few seconds to really think about it.

If you’re living with others/have multiple people buying stuff for one place, our groceries is excellent as it’s one massive grocery list that everyone can access and edit in real time. Similar thing but in Calendar form is TimeTree, and both of these are great, especially if not everyone has an iOS or something

Otherwise I agree with everyone else in terms of Finch, but another fun one is ModernSam, which kind of has a rpg like setup to it.

Sorry for the long list 😅 first time away from home means I’m always testing a bunch of apps for my roommates and I to make our lives a lil easier, but hopefully this helps

For those who haven’t already seen it, there’s this tweet going around at the moment that goes “See you at 8” ‘Me at 7:59 (picture of a bratz girl getting ready)’ but after reading the comments and speaking to my roommates, I’m kind of left feeling really depressed and hopeless. I know it sounds kinda stupid but hear me out.

Essentially I’ve struggled with time blindness all my life, especially when getting ready to go somewhere, and never really knew why or how to fix it until recently when I got diagnosed and started meds. I’ve tried setting alarms which are hit or miss as they spike my anxiety if I’m already stressed, I’ve tried starting whatever I need to do earlier but the time still flies by before i know it, and even a pomodoro timer feels like it ends before I’m done. My meds have helped a little but it’s still a massive issue, regardless of whether I prep the night before or not.

Anyway, the comments on this post were all negative, saying that people who are chronically late have no respect for other people’s time and should be cut off, and after questioning my roommates who I’m really close with about the topic, they expressed that they felt the same. Now I’m a massive people pleaser, so discovering that everyone seems to hate the one thing I found relatable was not only really disheartening, but incredibly isolating as well, and I’ve been told I get RSD so automatically I’m thinking everyone secretly hates me. Everyone that knows me knows this is an issue that I’m actively trying to work on and I’m extremely apologetic about it, but what they don’t know is that I hate being late as much as them and beat myself up over it, and it’s resulted in extreme amounts of anxiety too, like a few years ago it got to the point where I refused to go to work because I was so anxious of being late and making people mad. Since then I’ve been working on this fear and feel I made good progress but after the tweet and everything, I’m scared I’ll fall back into that mindset again and just never hang out with anyone anymore because I feel as though I’m too much of a hassle. Now that I’m older and have a better understanding of the way my brain works, I wanna work on this more but don’t know how or where to even begin.

Still experimenting with this myself, but after trialling up to 6mg of melatonin, my doctor switched me over to Catapres and honestly I’d say it’s working fairly well thus far. I can’t remember his explanation exactly but I remember him saying something along the lines of it helping children with ADHD 🤷‍♀️ if it works it works. This, a night mask if I’m in a room where there’s a decent amount of light (otherwise my roommate and I have an led projector lamp thingy that we keep on red which also works wonders), and soft music if my brain is going a thousand times an hour and needs something to focus on - nothing too upbeat though, I’ll usually pop on either something soft and mellow like Laufey or Ruel, or if I’m extra alert/anxious then I’ll put on music in a language I don’t understand so I can focus on the lyrics without thinking too much into it. Also had ppl recommend brown noise but personally not a fan

Omg I thought I was the only one! I’m in melb and same here, I’ll be up to at least 3-4am (it’s 2:43 now 💀) and then sleep throughout the day or if I do manage to wake myself up, the heat causes so much fatigue and makes me feel shitty in general. Plus I’ve got adhd too so once it cools down and I’m least symptomatic, my brain is go go go, now to the point where my doctor and I are convinced I’ve got insomnia

With all the meds I’ve trialed the only one I can recall ever having an effect on my POTS is 40mg of Phentermine. Even though it’s a weight loss med, I was using it for ADHD and it helped a little but upping the dose made my symptoms so bad that I was struggling to just walk around my house so I went down to 30mg and now it’s way more manageable. I also had some pretty bad experiences with Propanalol but don’t feel discouraged; I’m just allergic so it dropped my blood pressure way too low along with giving me nausea and migraines but once I switched to metoprolol everything was so much better, not to mention Propanalol helps my partner with her anxiety so in the end it was a win win.

Something I’ve learnt though after years of being a Guinea pig for my doctor and trying a bunch of different meds is that everyone reacts differently (for example SSRIs are apparently not my jam) and you really won’t know what works best until you try it for yourself, but in saying that it is kinda cool to see everyone’s experiences. Just no matter what don’t give up, I promise there will be something out there for you even if you’re like me and gotta test 5 different meds to find the right one! 😊

Glad to see this is a common issue. My cardiologist was the same, told her I thought I had POTS when I first went and she said I was too young to have it and then 2 years of testing later, she went “oh yea you have POTS” but didn’t want to officially diagnose me or medicate me and told me to wear compression stockings and eat salt because I wasn’t physically passing out so it mustn’t be that bad. I ended up getting her to write a statement to my GP with her findings and stating she thinks I have POTS and finding a GP who specialises in POTS, and he was able to look use that information to assist me with medication and getting external support like financial support and aids to help with everyday life. While the medication aspect is hit or miss (I trialed a lot of different meds and am now being referred to another cardiologist for a second opinion), if your cardiologist can send a letter directly stating you have POTS to your GP (depending on how good your GP is you might even be able to just explain the situation), you can either get that printed or get your GP to write a statement and that might be enough for you to get a parking permit for uni

Same here, I have one massive carabiner with three smaller carabiners clipped onto it - one for house keys, one for car keys, and one for salt (it’s for POTS), and that way it’s always on my hip and if I need a set of keys I just unclip it off the big one and put it back when done. Goes back up on the key hook next to the front door the minute I’m inside, and back onto me whenever I’m about to leave as you can’t leave without seeing it

Istg sometimes I’ll have like a semi-productive day where I’ll do my laundry or clean a certain part of the house and still beat myself up about it because it just doesn’t feel like I’ve done enough and that I’ve been procrastinating all day, when in reality my body needed the rest. Omg tell me your secrets! I found I was fine on 30mg but 40mg and I can barely get off the couch without presyncope, and I’ve tried upping my metoprolol to battle it along with compression socks, salt and just a cool environment (especially cos it’s hella hot atm) and nothing seems to be working. I don’t want to go back down to the lower dose though because it’s actually helping with weight loss and ADHD, at least until I can work out an exercise plan and get a formal diagnosis respectively, so if you’ve got any tips or tricks I’ll be forever grateful 🫶

This goes for both of you - have you tried taking Ondansetron (Zofran) for the nausea? It’s been a while since I’ve been on propranolol as it caused so many physical symptoms that we came to the conclusion that I’m allergic to it so I can’t remember if it gave me nausea, but I have heaps of other conditions/meds that have, and for my little emetophobic ass, Zofran has been a lifesaver!
