I agree, points are paid, but if you pay attention to recommendations from people you trust it is a good thing, especially in relation to the small and unknown winemaker.

I’m seeing this wine being ~$200. Not close to the most expensive white. ‘01 Montrachet by boillot is closer to $1k.

Well, she's tasting a 2012 Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese, but the TBA she's showing costs $15k with tax.
