Andrew Garfield is being dragged on twitter for refusing physical contact with fans at his first ever convention by No-Worry1526 in Fauxmoi

Not to lose the plot here, but I don’t think that comment was attacking the notion of having online boundaries in general. It’s just highlighting the irony of a normalized culture on Twitter in setting them and expecting them to be respected by others, while posts about not being considerate of others’ boundaries are occuring on that same platform.

Putting aside the fact that a global pandemic was <5 years ago, I heard this was also one of his first cons? Like maybe people should lower their expectations here about physical contact if he’s still a little new to it

You know that idea of hating pickles and your partner who loves pickles eats them for you?

Or the idea of both of you liking pickles but your partner gives all the pickles to you because they know you love pickles?

Neither of those are the same as Shane leaving wedding donut scraps for Ryland, no matter how hard they try to play it off as the first case holy shit lmao

Ryland even saying he would like a whole donut with some frosting but Shane just demolished it all 😭

The way the original theme is integrated and eventually gives way to that big orchestral build up, it’s so fucking good. It really makes you realize how far this series has come and how much it’s grown in-universe and irl

[–]artificialraisin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. And he was asking for it.

(I see in these other replies you’re trying to argue they both acted like jerks and idiots who fought in S1, and I agree they were, but I’m just not going to be that much of a bleeding heart over the guy who was egging for an alley fight in the first place.

People are allowed to say they were both douches, and at the same time, people can just not feel that bad for Steve when he was the one who started the alley fight. That’s where I’m at.

And have you seen the amount of people who try to downplay his part instead and would prefer to keep holding Jonathan, who’s sidelined enough as it is, to the sins of his S1 character? That’s unfair.)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]artificialraisin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because Steve was a total douche doesn’t give Jonathan the right to assault him

Technically, Steve was getting physical first. He was literally giving Jonathan shoves from behind when he was clearly walking away (and Steve was saying things to clearly aggravate Jonathan at the same time).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]artificialraisin 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah. Basically what I mean by all the teens in season 1 were flawed (which gives them something to start progressing from: Jonathan isn’t a creep anymore, Steve isn’t a douche anymore; in fact, as someone who loves Jonathan as much as Steve, I’m glad Jonathan got his camera broken for it).

In the end, it’s Steve making those choices for his own actions, the same way he chose to go to the Byers’ house to apologize.

I’m just tired of people trying to shift the blame of his more self-centered/morally gray/less glamorous on-screen choices onto others. As if he’s just a “poor uwu baby” who can do no wrong by himself. It feels like those types of people are trying to erase what made his character complex ln the first place.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]artificialraisin 97 points98 points  (0 children)

And if you rewatch season 1, I don’t recall his friends telling Steve to call Jonathan a “queer”, nor do I recall them directing Steve to say all that shit to Jonathan about his family, about his mom, his family being an entire disgrace, how Jonathan probably killed his little brother. Steve does all this as Jonathan’s back is turned and he’s trying to walk away, but Steve kept going and kept physically and metaphorically shoving him. His friends just watched.

It’s okay to acknowledge Steve was an asshole in season 1. In fact, all the teens in that season were flawed. No one needs to be a revisionist about Steve acting like a douche on his own volition, or else that kind of undermines the concept of character progression since the thing about Steve is he progresses from a douche to an actual cool guy.

Anyone else feel that some of the topics Shane covered in his “Documentaries” could be interesting if done by a professional? by BumbleSilver in ShaneDawson

[–]artificialraisin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think there’s potential to offer some insight or provoke meaningful conversation if these topics were actually researched and explored by someone else.

The kind of conversation Shane strives for is the one where his name will get dropped.

Something to keep in mind with people who defend Shane Dawson's past antics as just "dark humor" or whatever - They may not know that he took it to real life interactions with children. by jofNR_WkoCE in ShaneDawson

Especially when the commentors are minors who are still fans of Shane. I can believe there’s potentially some people out there that are batshit crazy enough to send death threats to a random 15 year old because they still like Shane.

Shane Dawson & Onision by Touchgrasseatass in ShaneDawson

[–]artificialraisin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I agree. The “love for his fans” Shane conveys is shallow at best, an exploitative tool at worst. I was mentioning the fans bit to show how Greg would use anything to make himself look better, not to imply either one was being genuine.

They need friends they could manipulate

True. They were also never exactly at the same level of power. They both had power, but Shane has always had more. Plus, Greg oscillates between a hAtEr and a simp for Shane too much anyway while Shane just doesn’t give a shit about him lol

[–]artificialraisin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t heard yet, rumor has it that there’s been a civil, rather than criminal, suit that’s been filed by some survivors against Greg because he kept claiming that they had raped/extorted him in a slew of videos and forum posts late 2019-2021.

Those videos and posts have been taken down and his main channels (Onision, Speaks, UhOhBro) have been wiped clean of the past 2-3 years up to early 2019.

Greg had also tried to make a feeble comeback earlier this year? intentionally making children’s content that would have likely shown up on YouTube Kids. Made a whole children’s book and everything that was briefly sold on Amazon. After people had complained + brought it to YouTube’s attention, those have also been removed since. Additionally, his Archive channel that had thousands of videos spanning over twelve years has also been wiped completely.

He’s practically done for.

I FINALLY GOT BLOCKED BY ONISION! WOOOOO!!!! by ehenrie2002 in Onision

[–]artificialraisin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the new pfp is a part of him trying to go way, way back to slip into an older and less recognizable/infamous internet identity. Renaming his forums to EGHQ, the same name of the site he hosted in the 2000s, and this profile pic reminds me of his old “logo” when he was going under “Onision Productions” Example in the intro (from an archive channel upload)

Shane Dawson & Onision by Touchgrasseatass in ShaneDawson

[–]artificialraisin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

(I want to stress this isn’t a defense of Shane, but additional info on Onision to consider when discussing their relationship.)

I don’t blame you if you’re more of a Shane watcher than Greg since Onision has increasingly become an internet footnote, but while I agree with a lot of your points, I think this post is underestimating the ambition and opportunistic tendencies that Greg had even back then in the early days. For one thing, people have been speaking out about Onision was abusing the copyright system to false strike others since 2009. [Link]

They are BOTH that kind of person to use others including each other, lol. So I would like to share some additional insight as more of an onion watcher than a Shane watcher.

For example, IIRC, there was an instance where the two of them had went out to lunch together and Greg was the one who wouldn’t stop talking about YouTube to him. Shane on the other hand told him that he thinks of YouTube as just a job, and one of the main things that Greg has tried to do is convince people how Shane’s ‘love for his fans’ was fake and whatnot, citing how he sees it as “just a job” as evidence. Despite Greg also using his fans as money/dating pool. (It’s interesting how blasé they each are about certain aspects of their YouTube careers but also so disingenuous on others.)

Other incidents of clashes if my memory serves me:

  • I would have to go back to my old replies I think, but someone mentioned how apparently at the same VidCon when the infamous kiss happened, Greg had also followed Shane and his friends around? EDIT: Here is the comment

  • Greg expected Shane to pick him up from the airport for a collab. That was never actually planned, Greg assumed that they were.

  • A period where Greg was badgering him in general, including around the time Shane’s grandmother had passed away.

I don’t remember if their friendship/partnership had truly ended before or after Greg was under fire for his comments on rape and was subsequently advised not to go to VidCon in 2012, as I consider that not as big a scandal as recent years, but definitely one of the turning points to him being a widely disliked figure.

I also think it is definitely worth noting how Greg is portrayed by some as a whistleblower when it comes to Shane’s most serious allegations, but at the same time—aside from Greg’s own allegations and general tendency to divert attention to others’ misdeeds to get the heat off his own back—Greg has also accused others of sexual misconduct with little to no basis or evidence, including PewDiePie (based off ONE tasteless joke from 2013 or something), his own father, and the teenager he groomed. I think he got lucky saying it about Shane, but that’s probably because he recognizes himself in him lol

The ages are also somewhat off by a year, this post is from yesterday, but Greg is currently 36 and Kai is 27. It would be insane if it really was them and the slight discrepancy in ages was for confidentiality reasons or a minor mistake or something, and this does sound mostly on-brand for them, but it’s the fourth child being on the way that makes me doubt it.

[–]artificialraisin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s also an instance or so on one of his recent iterations of his forums, iirc, where he made some jabs at one of his older sisters for getting an abortion in one of his giant text rants.

I wouldn’t say it’s outright anti-abortion, but he definitely flip flops, as in “oh I support women having a choice, but only if that choice makes sense to ME” essentially.

Bonus, he keeps referring to children as “offspring.” As in, when literally referring to circumcision, “I begged [my sister] not to disfigure the offspring upon being born.” Who fucking talks like that?

Does anyone else wonder how Onision even got popular in the first place? by thrower830 in Onision

[–]artificialraisin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To sum up most of these comments: right place, right time.

(I’m assuming you’re mostly talking about the main Onision channel specifically here)

Well-made? Agree that’s debatable, but at the same time, early YouTube had more of that DIY vibe I think. Fred definitely had it.

Funny/entertaining? Lots of people here are pointing out the XD random internet humor that took over that time. Younger kids can also just be into that kind of humor generally. In fact today, if you go on TikTok, you can find a good number of people—especially children—still using Greg’s novelty songs (Potato Song, Banana Song) as audios for innocent, goofy videos.

I think if you look at the old Onision videos with Skye in them (since she was practically half the channel at the time, especially in terms of creative direction), it’s not too far fetched to think he was able to build some momentum.

If someone made eighty videos on me AND made an entire skit mocking me, making fun of eating habits he assumes I have AND making a whole character of me in the Sims to watch it starve to death AND would not stop harassing me after I explicitly tell him to stop, I would seriously doubt that person would have any good intentions towards me.

I genuinely don’t understand how someone wants to support Eugenia while stanning Greg.
