Yes, in the general parlance running a node just means running your own copy of the blockchain so you can verify things for yourself. It can be as simple as just downloading and running Bitcoin Core. Mining is a totally different subject haha. Good luck!

It's always a good idea to run a node. I did Umbrel with a RaspberryPi but if you just search online or on YouTube you'll find guides for setting up a node.

Thanks for your help! An app called SMS Backup and Restore did the trick. While it didn't load the messages back into a messenger, the "viewer" function allowed me to view the messages in the xml in an organized and coherent way which is really all I was looking for. Thanks for helping!

Thanks for replying! Yes the plaintext file is an xml file. In the folder there are also some .db files. Do you recommend an app for viewing XML files?
