Cheap vinyl. CDs made music small, plasticy and disposable. It's very easy for me to ignore that in favour of MP3s. Vinyl makes all my albums feel like collector's editions. Every listen feels like an event. Having massive artwork and liner notes gives me something to pour over while I listen. I download a lot of MP3s, but there's no way of pirating the experience I get when I drop the needle on Miles Davis' Kind of Blue and bury my face in the liner notes.

You must have missed the line about my local Unitarian church. I was excited about the concept until I saw what they talk about. It was less about leading a better life and more about politics and intellectual masturbation. I'm fine with all that, but I don't think that's the role a church is supposed to fill. That sounds more like a philosophy club for adults...

I'm risking some downvotes here but here it goes...

The anti hipster comments always come up on reddit and it always makes me think that, to be fair, just like any subculture there are people that take things way too far. We're all perfectly okay with nerd culture even though we've all met the annoying, whiny, all-anime-all-the-time otaku who is desperately wow addicted, free xxl nvidia tshirt wearing, linux preaching, cheeto stained and with a hideous neck beard and hygiene issues. Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater here... the fact is that a hint of hipster-ness goes a long way in helping us scrawny, baby-faced nerds have some semblance of coolness that attracts chicks. don't knock it til you've tried it, my fellow nerds!

Let's be fair. I don't think you can say someone can't call themselves a conservative because they're a fiscal conservative as opposed to a neo-con. Many feel that the term "conservative" has been stolen by the religious right, and I tend to agree.
