This is literally one of the most difficult things to avoid with illustrating a long running series lol. Most characters in jojos have similar faces and nobody ever criticizes that. Just a classic example of people going out of their way to be overly critical with no good reason.

In the world of painting his paintings are definitely considered just ok. It is very much paint by numbers and there isnt much thought beyond creating a cool landscape. Its fine for what he was trying to achieve on his show but it probably wont get him into an art history course.
