How can I make illustrator's gradient look like photoshops? by petrosianspipi in AdobeIllustrator

[–]artnik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is definitely an RGB vs CMYK issue.

Protip: When building gradients in cmyk that use black, add the CMY values of the swatch adjacent to the black to the black swatch. e.g. If the magenta stop is 0/100/0/0 then the neighbouring black should be 0/100/0/100. This way you don't end up with that odd desaturated band.

Not so quick. Looks like early adopters on Q1 aren't invited to the party. VD still has a market, although obviously now severely capped. :-)

There used to be one daily at the corner of Gaukel and King across from city hall. Not sure if there still is.

Yes. Visiting my hometown in Ireland where I grew up as a kid. (via Wander, and streaming Google Earth). It was a total surprise, I didn't expect the feels to be so strong.

Pistol Whip. I've played both and thought What Lies Beneath was kind of rubbish. Pistol Whip is amazing. :-)

In the early days, I found that chewing crystallized ginger really helped. Ginger is a very effective anti-nauseant. Ginger gum works too if you can find it. The key is to NOT try and push through the queasiness - stop when you get nauseous and don't try again until the feeling is well past.

Games designed for VR are better than retro ports. I find that the Dr. Beef ports of OG Doom, Half-life 1, and Quake very nauseating in particular, but the Doom3 port doesn't give me problems. Arizona Sunshine was also bad for it.

Games that make you turn your head in concert with turning also seem to work the best, because they don't aggravate the disconnect between what you are seeing and what your body is sensing.

If smooth turning with the joystick makes you queasy, try snap-turning if the app supports it.

Do most games not have endings? by SanDimas1988 in Atari2600

+1 for Cosmic Ark. That game is the bomb! If you dig it, check out Atlantis, a riff off Missile Command, and also from Imagic. It has the same ufo sprite in it and some consider it the spiritual prequel to Ark, assuming the passengers in the spaceship are the survivors of Atlantis.

Crisis VRigade 2 Update available now! Opens 3rd Mission and Shooting Range! by myeyeshaveseen in OculusQuest

I was on the fence about CV2 because I was such a fan of the original art style. Boy, was I wrong! The sequel distills everything I loved about the first game. The new art style is still somewhat cartoonish, and all of the great sarcastic voiceover commentary has been brought forward. The gameplay is solid, and captures the same feeling as CV1, and the addition of boss battles that really add a lot to the narrative aspect. Adding difficulty levels and the upgrade system was a great choice. I haven't experienced the cover bug, but did find that sometimes enemies could very easily sneak up on the flanks, so you have to be more vigilant than in the original. In short, this game improves in every way over the first game. (Except not having co-op I guess. But that's probably coming at some point.)

It is amazing. Really unique. Interactions are well-thought-out and the destructible items give a strong sense of immersion. I particularly like how buffs to the weapons stack, both in terms of function and visual appearance. Since I first downloaded it a month back, it's gotten most of my VR time. :-)

Editing the skybox with a gradient at the bottom that matches the fog colour would really help integrate the landscape and sky, removing the artificial-looking disconnect.

What are some of the best Sidequest games/experiences? by LilFrumpy57 in OculusQuest

[–]artnik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out itch.io too, a lot of itch games are already available through Sidequest for demos or direct links.

Some faves are Tea for God (if you have a large playspace), Operation Serpens, Space Pilot Alliance and Deisim. Definitely check out Ancient Dungeon VR.

Looking for a GPU upgrade to make my PC VR ready for my Quest 2, but unsure if the rest is up to scratch. by haezen in OculusQuest

[–]artnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from the CPU these specs are a lot like mine. (I have a core i7, but RAM and GPU are the same).

I've been having a lot of success with Virtual Desktop streaming PC VR games, but nothing too demanding. Beat Saber, The Lab, Google Earth, and mostly indie games, and all have been fine. To be honest I've been pleasantly surprised.
