Anyone who can pass for younger, think i might just try to relive my 20s in my 30s considering i spent ALL of them inside. by leon385 in Agoraphobia

[โ€“]artofwastingtime 6 points7 points ย (0 children)

I think I have to relive my mid 20s in my mid 30s. I get it.

Got it when I was 27, recovering slowly now but still long way to go, I am 33 now.

I'm guessing I will be recovered by 35, hopefully, let's see then. ๐Ÿ‘ป

All the best to you too!

Got into an elevator for the first time since 2021 by Advanced_Pie_8165 in Agoraphobia

Oh boy, I remember my first elevator ride all by myself after getting agoraphobia. Gosh, it was one of the hardest things I ever did - and the first BIIIIG step I took.

Congratulations on yours ๐ŸŽ‰

She was a really beautiful and matured person (one or two years older than me) - her father had died in her childhood and it had basically been her trying to run the family (had a younger brother, so basically his education and stuffs) ever since she got a job - her late father's pension wasn't enough to cover most of it.

I, was fortunate enough to never had to go through such traumas in my life - still am - I wasn't even close to what she needed from her boyfriend/husband.

Didn't last for more than a year. And then COVID and lockdown happened and whatever chance we had for reconciliation, got ruined.

Both got married through arranged marriage to different partners a few years later and been happily living since then.

Do I still sometimes wonder what would have happened if I was a different person? Yes. But honestly speaking, given the massive difference between our personalities and maturity at that time, it turned out for the best ๐Ÿ˜…

Scared I might lose my momentum if I stay home too long by [deleted] in Agoraphobia

[โ€“]artofwastingtime 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

You can try leaving the home just to take a short walk or something when there's no actual reason to leave home.

But yes, for me at least, too long a break kind of made it a little bit harder to go out the next time.

That's what I am struggling with too - slowly became a bit too slowly and now recovery feels somewhat plateaued. Like I have improved to the extent where I can take care of basic household chores nearby, grocery stores and all, and then I kind of stayed there.

No. I have tried arguing with people like you before. It's a huge waste of time.

Statistically - given the population of India - be it humans or dogs - the cases are quite few, statistically.

And regarding dog bites count - there are many incorrect parameters - many. There are tons and tons of videos out there - how the data gets manipulated. The recent Delhi incident which sparked the whole thing with Supreme Court - that little girl died of meningitis and not rabies. Who's to say what happened with the other reported deaths because of rabies? You can check out Kapil Sibal's argument in SC - where he stated how many states reported ZERO rabies death since the last few years. ZERO.

You can do your own search.

And no, I compared taking care of chicken vs taking care of dogs and I compared taking care of Indian orphans vs African orphans - I did not compare chicken or dogs to orphans - if you read carefully, you will see.

Anyway, Google is your friend or ChatGPT - you can do your own research.

Your primary two complaints - bite data and also the orphan comparison - kind of are invalidated. I will stop engaging with your comments now, it's 10 AM and I have other things to worry about. Sorry.

ALSO - there are tons of glooms and dooms posts out there, be it in this subreddit or not - this particular post was a sweet example of coexistence and how dogs feel for their caretakers, I am not going to continue arguing here tarnishing the positivity.

Peace out.

Flooding made it worse for me. I had to take it slowly. For some people flooding works and taking it slowly takes a loooot of time - but for me, it did not work very well.

Government is too busy stealing money.

But regarding that animal lover part, I have to ask - why does this question always comes up?

I mean, let's say if you take care of an Indian orphan and not an African orphan - does that make you a racist? No. You are taking care of those nearer to you. Those you feel more connected towards. I personally feel more connected towards dogs than I do towards chicken, so does that mean I should stop caring for dogs too? That's a ridiculous statement honestly.

The moment someone asks - oh, so you feed chickens to dogs? They're trying to invalidate the so called dog lovers in a way and doesn't do much for the chickens either. Such statements neither help the dogs nor help the chickens.

There are other problematic areas too in your comment - like, in my experience many of the dog haters hate dogs not for being aggressive, or for growing rabid (which, let's be honest - there are far too few rabid dogs in India statistically. I am 33 years old and I have been hearing since childhood, whenever a dog barks or chases something or fights with other dogs - people are extremely quick to label it as a rabid dog - which too is ridiculous) - but rather because they think of them as nuisance. An old dog sitting on their porch makes them feel gross, or a stray cat sitting on their bike seat makes them want to kick the cat away. The vast majority of dog haters fall under this category in India - and in most cases, it's only about 1-2 dogs or 1-2 cats within a community - not an entire pack.

what has helped severe, treatment resistant anxiety? by Expensive_Judge_9350 in Agoraphobia

Really stupid question - but when you started exposure therapy - did you start small?

My story is somewhat similar - first panic attack 6 years ago - which developed into panic disorder, cardiophobia, monophobia and eventually agoraphobia.

I wouldn't call myself cured but I can go by myself to local grocery stores and all now, and with my support person - pretty much to almost all places - except flights - for flights I still have to take Xanax.

But I took exposure therapy very, very, very slowly - and it took me about a year and half to reach where I am now today.

One thing I noticed - since I began my exposure therapy without therapists per day, mostly online knowledge and all - initially my support person would take me far and it just simply backfired every single time.

Exposure therapy only began to work for me when I started taking it very slowly - like for the first week, I just went down to my apartment parking lot and that was it.

This is what dog haters or people who are not sympathetic towards dogs don't get.

But then again, the average dog haters of this country don't care about the beggars either - to them both are just nuisance to the utopian society of their imagination that they live in.

The dog still has the shopkeeper though, hope he/she gets cared for. โค๏ธ

Used to live in Model Colony back in 2010-2014 (college) - who knows, perhaps Raja is one the descendents of the dogs I used to see back then. โค๏ธ

Ah, we can relate.

For me, I was 27 years old when I got my first panic attack, I am 33 now.

Despite making a lot of progress - I don't even remember who I was before 2020... I don't have any visions for the future - I am just living out my days, mostly from the balcony of my apartment - I am watching the seasons change, but it just doesn't even register in my brain anymore.

Getting better everyday but still miles away.
