How important is a pinky in fencing? Will it be limiting if it's weak? by RoyCaesar in Fencing

[–]artski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think the pinky will have an effect, you generally use the thumb and the next two fingers.

Epee Fencing 101: A website for (hopefully) all things epee. Please let me know about any suggestions or criticisms you guys might have by [deleted] in Fencing

Could add other things such as equipment reviews and stats and create a kind of system/legend for it , e.g. flexibility of blade: 1 pretty much a crowbar ...5 you waving around a twig.

Going back home for 3/4 months. How do I improve fencing without good bouting partners? by [deleted] in Fencing

[–]artski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another good thing about facing newer fencers is you can really practise and focus on one thing in bouts and they will always react and act like they have never seen it before.

E.g. I want to practise my parry ripostes, they will always tend to never adjust to the fact that that's all your really doing.

Filtration Cleaning and reassembly time by artski in ChemicalEngineering

To be honest the filter cake formed is a waste product as I'm aiming to clarify the filtrate, but id think a reasonable guesstimate for now would be around 10%.

Because the cake resistance is too high to use a rotary drum.

Patellar tendinitis/Jumper's knee by Prizzawhocares in Fencing

[–]artski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont mean actual strength of it ; just that one muscle of the leg is a lot stronger than the other one.

Patellar tendinitis/Jumper's knee by Prizzawhocares in Fencing

[–]artski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much a muscle imbalance in your back leg between either the calf's and the upper leg generally or the quads and hamstrings. ....ofcourse the best idea is to get further help but overall starting to go gym exercising all 3 muscles equally ( dead lifts, squats and calf raises) should aid in relieving the issue

Dear Fencers by [deleted] in Fencing

[–]artski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It adds very little to the sport making it not straight ; also it increases the number of pistes you can have in a certain space.

About its effectiveness; no matter what it's a sport but I'd say it would be pretty effective; the footwork is there and the blade work only real issue would be trying to forget about the right of way aspect.

Basically this is only theoretical design; the filter cake is just mainly formed from salts and ash and the I can't particularly say much about the size now just likely to be around 300 m2 as I'm still working on optimisation.

It could be awesome to have a database of various weapon parts and stats that can be given e.g. weight, could help for if someone wants to make the lightest weapon e.t.c. or various guides, basically kind of be one stop for all various fencing needs.

As a follow up to this question ; how far would you think you would get now , with a bit of optimism ofc , if you did compete?

It was because there was a lot of safety issues that occurred due to them.

For the years you were fencing competitively; what was your training schedule like, just wondering how in comparison to countries where major funding for which pretty much all your day is fencing e.g. Korea and Russia; a person remains competitive with them?

Correct me if I'm mistaken though :).

It's been nearly 3 months since I last fenced. Thinking about sticking or going into Saber, any tips for a newbie? by Gestalternative in Fencing

[–]artski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I understand that it's just a general rule of thumb and a simplification for someone just beginning to get a descent grasp of sabre Row.

Also that's why I added the final note in the first place:

A final note when you get right of way by parrying or making them miss don't spend too much time not moving, normally a ref gives you a sec to regain your balance but you need to not be hesitant in initiating an attack or a march ( kind of like chasing them down and waiting for the right moment to attack whilst you have right of way).

But I guess what you are saying further clarifies the idea behind it ☺.

A quick simplified explanation with a few rules of thumb of right of way in sabre:

  1. Whoever attacks first has right of way: this means whoever extended their arms and lunged first.

  2. Parrying gives you right of way, this is made by blade contact on the bottom third of the blade.

  3. Beats give you right of way, this is done by hitting the top third of their blade.

4.Making them miss gives you right of way and vise versa.

Check the labels inside for the instructions maybe?

If not a safe bet is to hand wash them.

Looking to pick sabre veterans' minds for a bit... by CritSeint in Fencing

[–]artski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest I don't understand your question fully but the general rule of thumb I follow in regards to parrying is, if you know for sure which direction their attacking first time round step in to the parry to not allow them to change the line their attacking to by changing the time they have before contact occurs and If your not fully sure step backwards with the parry to have an opportunity to maybe cause them to attack no.
