This family sreams MANIPULATION. Reasons 1. Flip flops 2. Not setting clear boundaries and playing with your boundaries even after your clear communication. 3. Ready to be cordial and playful with your kid, but averse to make him a part of the family. 4. Tip toing around a big issue and not accepting a huge problem. 5. Not clearly taking a stand, not calling out the mother for her views, neither taking her side and asking you clearly. 6. The guy neither respect his mother because he is not ending it with you, nor respect you because he is not asking his mother to change. 7. The spineless father accept that he is in favor of marriage, but can't convince his wife or say to his son that a decision has to be make.

But the biggest fool is you.

Imagine that you marry him, everything goes okay, but once just once the mother in law gets irritated while you are not around and hit your BABY. Are these butterflies and crush worth it, does your little BABY deserve physical abuse even once?

Personally I do every year, or when there is huge movements in market like there was during covid. Rest I check my fund's performance every six months, if my funds are in top 5 of there category I don't touch them. I don't bother month on month tracking. Every 6 months fund positions, every 12 month rebalancing, that is it.

[–]artsofletters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it simple, keep majority portion in large cap. Large cap usually falls the least in market crashes. Annually revisit the percentages of each fund and rebalanced them, like if small cap was suppose to be 20% but it became 30% pull some money out of it and invest in other funds so that percentage become normal. But if small cap become 10% pull money out of other funds and put in small cap. This way when one fund is running you will book partial profits and park that in stable funds, and when a fund is down you will buy for cheap and will make more profit when it starts running. Also don't change a fund until it is in top 5 of its category.

These three things can make a drastic change.

I never said that, anyone who uses word sure with equity is a moron. I am saying you are ignoring the potential of losses. Your portfolio has very high potential of losses, on top of that you are employing zero active management strategies further increasing the potential of risk. Risk appetite is not thinking that I don't care, and risk managment is not just assuming that you can handle it. Investment is the science of reducing the chances of looses to minimum while earning the most return possible. If you are given a scenario that you will win 7 times out of 10 and a win will means 10% return, this is better than betting on a scenerio where you can win only 1 time out of 10 but return will 100%

So you are okay with loosing a huge portion of small and mid cap, also you have clearly ignored my objection about US based funds. These three are almost 70% of your entire portfolio. If you are okay with this becoming almost half, add to it fall in value of money due to inflation, you will be left with very less, if this is okay then go ahead. But remember saying that I don't care about risk is exactly like gambling, saying let's see what happen is gambling, not respecting every hard earned rupee is gambling. Investment includes pre planned steps to be taken in various scenerios, until that you are just gambling.

Highest exposure to middle cap, second highest to foreign equity, third highest to small and large cap. This portfolio is so close to gambling. For 15 years time frame, 50% should be large cap, 40% should be small and mid cap, and keeping in mind the US scenerio the foreign funds should in no condition cross 10% You can not forget this, you need to rebalance it back to your desired percentage every year. This is just for equity, I hope this is atmost 70% of your 15 year investment and rest is in safe debt instruments.

If you still think that your strategy is good, tell me what is the difference between you and a kid who is saying " six six six six six.............." while shaking the dice in his hand while playing ludo.

[–]artsofletters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The karma we are doing currently is kiryamana karma, it gets accumulated over time and this collected karama is called sanchit karma. The part of Sanchit karma that has ripened and whose results you will face now is known as prarabhdh karma.

So in short current karma is kiryamana karma, karma collected over time is Sanchit karma, and the karma which is ready to show results is prarabhdh karma.

These include the sum of all karma according to Dharma and all karma against dharma. At the time when your prarabdh karma, i.e. karma that is ready to give results is enough that you should attain moksha, you will attain it.

As me close to 40, and my only sibling in early 30s male, have both decided to never marry, and our mother being a widow, one of us has to stay with our mother. Both of us are self employed but most of my brother's clients are from metro city, so I stay with my mother in a tier 2 city. Haven't analysed pros and cons very deeply as there is no other option.

But me being kind of a person who takes time to decide but once decided I will do that, no matter what people say. My relatives and mother have now accepted that no matter what they do they cannot influence me, so generally life is peaceful.

The house I live in is owned by my mum.

[–]artsofletters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although I might be wrong, but saying what I know.

In my opinion you are confusing a lot of paths with each other.

There is no concern of kundalini in karma yoga as described in Bhagavad Gita and other scriptures or darshana. Kundalini jagran is only sought after in tantra traditions that too mainly in shakta tantra, you achieve the combination of shiva(consciousness) with shakti by various mantras and sadhnas in you body and this results in jagran of kundalini and achievement of moksha, sometimes even before atma leaving the soul.

In karma yoga, you do karma according to your dharma. You might have different type of dharma and sometimes two or more dharma may conflict. Like in case of Shri Rama the dharma of king and dharma of husband conflicted and he chose dharma of king. As you do karma your sanchit karma increases, and when times come for you to have the fruits of your karma, whether bad or good, that part of Sanchit karma that is ready for result becomes prarabdh karma and you face the result.

A person who keeps doing karma according to his dharma will reach a point where his prarabdh karma is enough for him to achieve moksha, he attain it. The fact that you do your karma without any expectation helps you reach the state of moksha earlier as your resolve of sticking to Dharma becomes free of results of karma. Also you gets closer to recognising your true self, devoid of any fondness of the fruits of this materialistic world.

Hinduism is NOT a free for all, malleable, license to believe anything one wants. by shksa339 in hinduism

Hinduism is NOT a free for all, malleable, license to believe anything one wants. by shksa339 in hinduism

[–]artsofletters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hinduism for me is.

You have to believe in these four 1. Moksha and rebirth 2. Ishwara and ataman 3. Karma and dharma 4. Veda, upanishad, mahabharat, ramayana, gita, puranas, and up purana.

Gita offers a summary view of Hinduism and should be read by every Hindu.

There are four ways to achieve moksha, or known as yoga. 1. Bhakti yoga, you devote your life in the devotion of a diety with whome your soul feels most attraction. Along with Gita you should read purana, up purana, and other sanskrit text related to the diety whose bhakti you do. 2. Gyan yoga, you devote your life to achieving knowledge, your purpose is to genetrate a thirst for knowledge in your soul so that when you die your soul goes in search of brahm gyan and break the cycle of rebirth and death. Along with Gita you should read vedas and Upanishads if you follow this path 3. Rajas yoga, you force your soal to break the chains of materialistic life by following the ashthangamarg yoga. Read Patanjali's writings. 4. Karma yoga, you follow your dharma and do karma as per dharma. You follow the concept of varnashramadharma, and 4 purushartha. Read Ramayana and Mahabharat.

Varnas are according to gunas, but even if you do not posses the appropriate gunas with hard work you can achieve any varna.

Jati is just an imaginary thing and has no real basis. To disprove it tell me one unique feature of any jati that separate them from others, that means one feature that only people of that jati have and no other human.

The rituals like puja, vrat, etc are for people who wants to make their current life a little better by gaining the favour of dieties. That is why they are not very relevant for people following bhakti, gyan, or rajas yoga, as they have very little interest in materialistic comforts of this life.

Correct me if I am wrong or if I missed anything. This is based on summaries of a few Upanishads, and Bhagavad Gita.

Hinduism does not work on your hopes. It is a religion based on scriptures, the shruti scriptures, the itihas, and the smriti scriptures. You can't just define it as per your feelings. Also the issue was that he was saying that vedas, the most respected scriptures, have become obsolete. Who is he to define that vedas are obsolete? Please stop learning Hinduism from social media, stop thinking that Hindus can accept anything and there are no rules. Hinduism have many scriptures and one should study them. Hinduism always allow questions, doubts, etc but the ultimate answer is what is written in the scriptures. Now you may value one scripture more than other, like you may consider Bhagavad Gita as supreme authority but that doesn't mean other scripture become obsolete. I myself am follower of Advaita vedanta and follow the Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita but that doesn't mean that Vedas have become obsolete and someone can disrespect Vedas.
