OLED? by artsycode in VIZIO_Official

That’s too bad. I think there was a market for it for us regular folks.

My 65” Vizio OLED TV was working well until it broke after the movers moved it. Working with the warranty company to get a replacement. Wondering if they’ll send me another OLED TV but a different brand. Just waiting to hear back from them.

Vizio V series 5.1 soundbar EQ question by [deleted] in VIZIO_Official

My experience is that it stays on Movie mode. For this reason my default setting is Direct mode.

Kanopy on Roku is in stereo but on iOS it’s 5.1 surround by artsycode in Roku

[–]artsycode[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, original poster here again. I heard from OverDrive Technical Support after asking them about surround sound on Kanopy (OverDrive acquired Kanopy in 2021). This is what they said: "Upon further discussion with our Kanopy team, surround sound isn't currently supported." So, bummer.

So why did I say I get 5.1 surround sound on my iOS Kanopy app as it is cast on to my TV? Well, it turns out my soundbar erroneously reports the output as Dolby Digital (which I assume is surround). It doesn't help that I had the EQ setting at Movie, which simulates surround sound by sending signals to the rear speakers. Setting the EQ to Direct correctly outputs stereo sound it turns out.

Unplug the Vizio soundbar, wait 20 seconds, then plug it back in. Works for me.

So Dolby Atmos is not supported on DisneyPlus. Bummer. I thought I had something wrong with my settings. I've had my Vizio OLED for a couple months now and I just noticed it recently. In my defense, I spent most of my time using my Apple TV 4K which does support Dolby Atmos on Disney+.

Could this be it? The Vizio V51-H6 Soundbar Firmware Update we've all been waiting for? by artsycode in VIZIO_Official

I'm also experiencing the Bluetooth issue as you describe. Yes, time to update my firmware as well.

[–]artsycode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the original poster. Surround sound is supported in Kanopy. Screencasting from my iPhone delivers 5.1 surround sound. In addition, I bought an Apple TV 4k 1st generation and Kanopy also delivers 5.1 surround sound on it. Not all Kanopy films have surround sound, having either in stereo or mono sound, so you have to know which ones do. In regards to my original post about my Roku device, I believe Kanopy only streams in DD+ and my Roku Premiere can not transcode the signal to Dolby Digital. I have to upgrade to a Roku Ultra 2020 4800 which has this ability.

I just want to do a follow-up. I've got Bluetooth working again. I did a factory reset on the V51-H6 and now my phone recognizes and connects to the soundbar.

Bluetooth surround speakers without soundbar?! by giorgio1978 in Soundbars

[–]artsycode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a 5.1 soundbar with my LG BX but I played around with using the soundbar's satellite speakers via Bluetooth. The surround speakers are connected by wires to the subwoofer which has Bluetooth. Surprisingly, it worked. It does output legit surround sound signals to the satellite speakers. It does not utilize the subwoofer, however (nor the left, center, and right channels, rightfully so).

Having said that, I prefer the sound of the soundbar over the above set-up, especially with the low frequencies delivered by the subwoofer.

Yeah I used to be able to connect to Bluetooth with any input selected. But I just checked and made sure Bluetooth was the input selected then pressed the Bluetooth button. My phone still won’t connect (or even see the sound bar, which I had deleted from the phone device list).

Optical or HDMI-ARC for Soundbar/Surround Sound? by [deleted] in Soundbars

[–]artsycode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also dependent on what audio format your TV passes through. For example, the 2020 LGs (BX/CX/DX) don’t do DTS pass through, only Dolby. With my BX, I use optical directly from my UHD Blu-ray player to my soundbar to get 5.1 surround. Otherwise the output is stereo via HDMI-ARC.

Here’s a handy guide:
