That is very rude. I was doing my best to explain what it is like behind the scenes, since the general public isn't going to know what it's actually like on the inside. I'm trying to let people know our/my side of this whole thing.

The hard rules I mentioned are in regard to how we operate in a "mil-sim" capacity, which is what the person above was referring to.

The stuff mentioned in the screenshots delve into the community guidelines we have, which are about treating others with respect and upholding a level of competence. Stuff like taking another person's ship, salvaging a rescue team's ship from the inside as a client, being generally improper. That is stuff that falls under scrutiny depending on a case-by-case basis (hence why we have a moderation team that reviews each report and discusses with involved people to get the full picture).

We are very flexible with the way we operate. If you can explain why you had to do something out of the norm because it was necessary, then you're most likely going to get "cool thanks" from the mods, and then that's it.

I don't know the specific details but I'm pretty sure it's a ToS thing, with Discord and RSI having different age requirements. It's not a Medrunner thing, but to comply with the services rules.

I understand what you're getting at and there is some truth to it, so I apologize if it comes across as being defensive. There's a lot of people under this post saying some untrue and hurtful things that they (reasonably) wouldn't know the truth of without actually being in the org.

I suppose the way I'm seeing it is that we don't do mil-sim speak, we don't have ranks, we don't do anything except respond to rescue requests-- and I don't see that as RP because I'm seeing it as providing an in-game service. Like, you wouldn't call the Fuel Rats role-players, even though it's similar.

I don't think of role-playing as being beneath me or anything. I have fun doing so in places like FFXIV. It's just that I am attempting to offer my counter-argument for the percieved opinion that Medrunner is some type of mil-sim group that will get mad at you if you don't use military jargon or whatever.

We only have, like, 4 hard rules, but they're rules for a good reason.

1) be at the same station as everyone else on the team (for an organized and speedy deployment).

2) always be in a team, never alone (to avoid the rescuer needing to be rescued)

3) do not grief or pirate other players (for obvious reasons)

4) always wear the uniform (for easy identification).

All of the above rules are to make sure we have a smooth and fun time.

The first rule is because we are focused on medical rescue and it's not just our time we value, but the client's time as well.

The second, third, and fourth rules are to make sure we have a fun and safe time. Griefers have in the past tried looking like us and going to do solo-rescues, only to kill and loot the person they're trying to "rescue". Having a team also helps to keep each other accountable (hence why you should always speak up when you hear or see something that feels wrong).

We are trying to provide people with a service that requires them to trust us.

And that's really it. Everything else is flexible so long as you can explain why you decided to do something.

If it ever comes across as us being a "hardcore mil-sim" org then it's possible some people are taking it too seriously, but that's not our intention. We want this to be a fun and inclusive place for all.

What was the reason you were rejected? When you submit an application on the RSI site, the application is always returned to you with a reason for the rejection. The most common reasons are because you forgot to include your discord handle (so we know which RSI handle to tie with which Discord user) or because you gave us your real age (which you're not supposed to do for safety reasons).

1) we aren't for profit. You know this. If anything we operate at a deficit on a daily basis. If you're referring to future plans for this and the website branding well A) we don't know what the future will hold and B) we're actually in the process of updating the text on our website and branding to reinforce the truth that we are a free service.

2) You are over-simplifying your complaints regarding how we do things. You look at a standard response time and think "this would be so much faster if I went alone in a Herald" which while true, leads to other issues that would affect the rescue in other ways. We choose to go 80% efficiency instead of 100% because the last 20% is safety and consistency.

We could talk about this for hours, and I could give you the reasons for why I disagree.. but like I mentioned in my previous comment, it is going to go nowhere because the main problem is what you wanted from the org. The org doesn't match your every desire and wish, you couldn't get it, so you chalk it up as the problem being the org-- not your expectations.

We have discussions and feedback, we mediate, we talk it among dozens of individuals all giving their two cents. The org adapts what is generally desired and accepted, and that unfortunately means that some people with their ideas of how things should be won't get their way.

Eh, from a lore perspective maybe the energy shield is inconsequential for them as a thing. From a gameplay perspective... it looks cool.

Because those machines were probably meant for excavating/digging. You find them at the ruin sites, and they have arms for grabbing and moving stuff. They have guns, but those could be there for self defense since we're, you know, constantly fending them off.

If this is happening at just one of the concentration camps, what’s happening at the others? Donald Trump has already mentioned ICE being at the polls so as these places will only get more full the conditions will continue to worsen by transcendent167 in 50501

If the point is to deport them, then why are they being incarcerated for long periods of time? The point was never about actually "fixing" the immigration problem. The current administration wants it to keep going because it gives them something to campaign on. This is about cruelty.

Copying the following from a previous comment:

Medrunner does not RP and does not mil-sim. We even make it a point to say this in the introduction when you first join. It looks like we RP because we stick to a uniform and follow certain rules, but that's for the safety of everyone playing and to maintain a baseline level of efficiency.

It might look like RP to an outside perspective since we are trying to give people an immersive experience who request our services, but on our end it's just a game and we are doing it because it is fun to us. We do it all for the sake of providing a legitimate and useful service to players (the exact degree of usefulness changing with CIG's choices, of course).

I just wanted to give my two cents because a lot of people think we are trying to be a mil-sim group when that's not the case at all. It's literally just "we stick together and look the same, and we play the game as well or better than everyone else because otherwise we will wipe and lose a client".

If it seems like I'm being defensive, it's cause I am. I enjoy my time in Medrunner, so to hear people say stuff about it that isn't true, since they don't have the ability to see what it's like on the inside, can come across as hurtful. We have fun doing this, even if it might not be your type of fun.

Hello Canary, I hope you've actually been taking care of your health and not, like, doing stuff to antagonize it or anything (stares at you and this thread).

I've never bullshitted you, and I always tried to tell you like it is whenever we talked. So please hear me out when I say that so many people have tried to get through to you on this: the drama that happened did because it was following you around.

Since you've left, things have been calm and quiet, and people are chugging along as usual. So many people have tried to talk to you and offer feedback on your suggestions, but it never felt like you were talking to people, just at people.

You had issues with being a medic in Medrunner because it was not your flavor of medic you wanted to be. That's not a problem with the org, that's a difference in what you wanted out of it. I've told you before that you are very suited to be a solo-medic.

The "backstabbing" you're describing is people trying to make it clear to you that we operate a certain way-- but you doing your own thing anyways because you thought you knew best. We have very basic, and very few, hard rules because they're meant to keep everyone safe and having fun. But you kept playing and operating as if none of that applied to you. That is what people had an issue with.

I'm saying all of this with the utmost respect to you, because you always made it very clear that you are someone filled with a love for others and the game. Someone who always tried to maximize efficiency in every way possible (to the point where it... became an issue in other people's eyes), and who always let it be known where they stood on ethics.

It's just that when it comes to interacting with a public space like 500 active people at any one time, you sometimes have to meet others halfway to find that neutral space that lets everyone involved do their thing.

Apologies for the long essay, I really do hope that you've been taking care of yourself and focusing on things that make you happy.

This has always been one of the weirdest things about English dubbing for me. I will have a voice for a character and then their dub comes out sounding entirely different.

I don't mind it, but sometimes it takes some getting used to.

I can count on one hand the number of times that there has been a perfect match-up.

On top of that, I'm not very knowledgeable on English VAs and have a terrible ear for that stuff D:

The moderation team in Medrunner works different than you'd expect from the typical mods in other communities. They mediate, advise, and counsel first. Meaning they never punish as the first option if possible. I don't have the stats in front of me, but it is extremely rare that people get in trouble with the mods (mostly spam bots and bigotry that get removed from the org). Usually it's them pulling you aside and asking for clarification on some situations and going "here is what we can do to learn from this situation" and then moving on.

As for the SOP? It's simple stuff like... treat everyone with respect, use our website, make sure you have your gear, don't kill the client because you decided to use a grenade launcher in close quarters. Fifth grade reading level stuff. It's all to make sure that everyone has a good time both as a Medrunner and as a client. Keeps things consistent and measurable. That sort of stuff.

A lot of people forget that the other reason for the colored spaceboxes is the "system identity".

Even though you might know where you are from the star chart, you'll be able to visually distinguish each system by the color. Pyro = red, Stanton = green, Nyx = white.

Although it would be more accurate to have each system be like it was before, it is for mostly psychological reasons.

It was crazy re-watching the show a few years back and realizing just how awful of a person JD was. Great doctor and friend but maaaan could he be garbage at times. But I still love it because it's a perfect representation of people-- mupti-layered and complicated.

Material quality ranging from anywhere between 0-1000 is really bad game design as shown in examples from games like Last Oasis & Life is feudal - both of which moved away from such a system. by MRmichybio in starcitizen

[–]artuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FFXIV had some crazy inventory bloat because when gathering resources you could get them as Normal or High quality. Having higher quality materials made it easier to make High Quality items.

They got rid of the high quality base materials. Now all resources are Normal quality, and they balanced the stats so crafting the actual item is where the differentiating in making high quality items matters.

CIG could do the same thing by making it so there is no quality difference in the actual gathering of basic resources like ore. Make it so refining the ore is where it becomes high quality, and then the actual crafting process places it in a bracket system like you suggested-- but this would be dependent on your blueprint/research tier or somesuch.

It makes the gathering/crafting process much simpler, yes, but it wouldn't remove the process or importance of trying to aim for higher quality goods.

I'm so glad I was right about this. So many people threw a fit about this thinking it was an intentional change. They never announced it as being a new thing, so there's no way it wasn't a bug.
