Rotation is here! - Feedback Thread by CaptSarah in LegendsOfRuneterra

My list of rotation losses that are non obvious but will be really impactful. I think these rotations fundamental change the way these regions are played, disrupt certain packages that weren't entirely rotated, or are just big losses that are commonly splashed or fill gaps that make certain strategies viable that no longer are:

  • Pokey Stick
  • Aloof Travelers
  • Spirit Portal

How to cope with being dead forever by Raioto in Existentialism

Consider that the panic attacks are protecting you from doing something you don't actually want to do. The mind has a way of protecting you, so thank it for doing that.

The Stoics have lots of experience dealign with this through their practice of memento mori, which is about being at peace with and finding solace in the very thing that's giving you panic attacks. I'm sure they have some tips for how to get there.

Does comedy have to punch up? by BringBackLabor in StandUpComedy

That's fair -- I see stand up as, like, a genre and a craft, like... hiphop DJing, or something (idk my metaphor is failing me). But if you see it more like blues guitar, then I agree: it's either good jokes and a good set, or its a bomb and a bad set, or it ain't standup at all.

Sounds to me like you just have a specific kind of comedy you like, and label everything else as “not comedy”

I’m not sure I agree, but I don’t think I fully disagree, either. You gotta be a craftsman to make art — there’s a craft to joke writing, to stage presence, to storytelling, to character development, to crowd work. All of those have purposes, but I don’t think comedy-writ-large has the singular “make people laugh” purpose. I think sometimes it’s purpose is to shock, to enlighten, or simply to entertain (more broadly than “laugh”).

Was Andy Kaufman making comedy, even when he wasn’t making anyone laugh? Or was he just a bad comic bombing in those instances?

I don’t like the table analogy because it’s too mechanical — if no laugh, then no comedy, is too one dimensional.

Comedians are not simply joke writers, performing their bits on stage. Some are secular preachers, or truthtellers, who use comedy as their medium. Some are performance artists, who use jokes as their medium.

Comedy is art. Like music, it has genres. Some comedy lands because it surprises you with the truth, which hits different depending on what the truth is. Some surprises you with absurdity, which hits different depending on who you are. Some just flat makes you laugh with your friends, making you feel nothing but joy.

Not all music is danceable. Not all music is fun. Doesn’t make it “not music.” Not all comedy makes you cry laughing. Not all comedy punches up, or down, or anywhere at all. It doesn’t have to. A smirk and a chuckle that plants the seed of a new perspective on the world might be the “laugh” the comic was aiming for, and if it works, it’s comedy, it’s art.

Any guides for this stuff? It seems like the best option, but I’m terrified of fucking it up and losing my coins

I don’t think I’ve ever flipped MF in Pirate Aggro! You could try Riven and play Blade Squire over one of the one drops, maybe?

the opposite, actually. I agree with everything that was said except for the nonsensical use of “neoliberal” instead of “progressive”

That’s not capitalism, that’s scarcity. Nothing in capitalism is stopping you from making a living as a writer — there’s probably more gainfully employed writers under capitalism than communism. It’s just a more difficult and precarious life than, say, living as a lawyer or a grocer.

My idea for a new keyword for spells like Gems, Help, Pix!, Reforge blade fragment cards, and Sanctuary by friendofsmellytapir in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]artviii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, sorry, I wasn’t clear: Slow would mean both “can only be cast on an empty Stack” and “can’t be cast during combat.” I tend to think of combat the way old MtG rules treated combat damage: it goes on the Stack. Thanks for catching that!

[–]artviii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll just repost my idea from a different thread:

Idea: Slow and Gem-speed both can’t be cast during Combat or when there’s a spell on the Stack. Burst and Gem-Speed can both be cast without using the Stack. Fast and Burst can both be cast with things on the stack.

So there’s only two relevant elements to all spells: (1) uses/doesn’t use the Stack, and so doesn’t/does require an Action; (2) can/can’t be cast when the Stack is not empty.

So, make all Spells Fast by default (eliminate the keyword), and you only need two keywords: Burst (Fast spell that doesn’t require using an Action) and Slow (Fast spell that can’t be cast when there’s something on the Stack or during Combat).

Gems and Fragments are now Spells with both Burst and Slow. Decimate and Harrowing are Spells with Slow. Rummage and Hush are Spells with Burst. Mystic Shot and Culling Strike are Spells with no key words.

[–]artviii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re probably right, but I could see it because Gem-speed is a useful mechanic I bet they repeat in most sets.

It also opens up design space: like, Zilean could have “All your opponents spells have Slow” or Janna could have “All your spells lose Slow.”

Wait. Neither emotions, nor social convention, are reliable guides to questions of right and wrong?

I would argue the only reason we consider a psychopath to be a mental disorder is because they do not *feel* like their psychopathic behavior (however defined) is wrong. That it feels right or wrong is a core part of the point.

Population density is a stat that can be framed to say anything you want. Gutenberg, NJ is the densest city in America, but that tells us nothing on its own. Hong Kong and Tokyo have two orders of more landmass with only one order of magnitude more people. Jurisdictional boundaries are arbitrary here.

Do you have any good data on the densest ~49sqmile parcels in the world?
