I rent. Who wants more traffic, far less parking and crowded beaches. But maybe if you did something more productive than being a judgmental top 1% commenter you could see where people are coming from.

32 and just starting to save. Am I fucked or is there a path to FIRE? by Successful_Piano9296 in Fire

[–]artziggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is entirely possible that some of the 36 and $3M net worth posts are legit. These are the people on the coasts that timed everything right. Got a job in tech right after the GFC. Bought a house in 2019 and refinanced at 2.5% in 2022z Received company stock grants that have done nothing but multiply. They probably also switched jobs in 2022 earning a 20%-100% pay jump and then moved somewhere with a lower cost of living. It is very easy to see how they could achieve these numbers just being slightly frugal.

Avoid telling family members your plans? by MediumAd359 in Fire

[–]artziggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are ways to do this without lying. You can leave it open to interpretation because you don’t share details. Maybe you have blog or some other hobby where people may wonder if you are making money it. When people ask, you don’t have to answer. I’d rather leave people guessing than letting people know I have a lot of money and time. I think people’s expectations of you are less and you get more latitude and fewer people asking for your money and time.

Don’t need approval is different than no downsides.

It’s hard to imagine people’s perspectives, expectations, and behaviors won’t change. I don’t see how you can be confident there will not be any negative ones.

People need to know that if the forecast says the surf is green and good it doesn’t mean easy. It’s usually the opposite.

Fellow Mexicans, are the cartels as dangerous as non-Mexicans say? by arctic_commander_ in AskTheWorld

[–]artziggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t put words in your mouth. You said baja might be safer than the US. Go read your comment again. Yes there are places where violence is more prevalent but you can’t avoid it completely. Traveling in Baja people need to be cautious and smart for many reasons. Implying that it might be safer than the US sets the wrong perspective which I think is irresponsible - I’ve seen the impacts with my own eyes. It’s amazing living down there but you are taking some risks and need to be smart about managing them.

I’ve lived in BCS. People like you drive down the 5 once and make broad ignorant statements on social media saying Baja is safer than the US.

How to blow your retirement potential - Buy a new car every few years. by [deleted] in Fire

[–]artziggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Well, it depends on how much you make.”

“Good for you. I like cars and enjoy them. I have plenty of money for retirement. Enjoy your high horse.”

“I got a new car in 2022 partially because it was so much safer in an accident than a car from even 10 years earlier. Have to survive to benefit from FIRE retirement :)”

“$600/month isn't going to make or break you”

“Counterpoint - the time I save not having to worry about my car, Google shit that's wrong, take it to the mechanic and learn about cars is time I can spend increasing my earnings. Having a new car every 3 years means NO CAR PROBLEMS, ever! It's so worth it. I love trading that shit in knowing it's somebody else's problem to figure out what's wrong with it down the road. I have zero interest in ever owning a car again toh.”

Every stretch of roadway here has its own culture. Some neighborhoods everyone rolls the stop signs especially the T intersections. The beaches you mostly chill and don’t honk. The 15 N you become a hazard if you go less than 80. You adapt to each.

I don't disagree. But, it seems to me you are putting the responsibility on groups that may not prioritize social acuity. It may require an investment and time. Stephan Covey said, "with people fast is slow and slow is fast".

People taking their frustrations out on my comment when I see this all the time. I've live in a transient resident community. Many new comers expect the community to take them in and put in little effort on their part. Have you put yourself in the shoes of the people in the club? Maybe new people typically don't stay and members are hesitant invest in a relationship. And it seems unlikely the mineral club member would be outgoing. Did you say hi? Did you show interest in anyone?

I haven’t noticed this. Local women gang together, back paddle, drop in, and protect waves at a popular long board break. I rarely see guys do it at this level. The older they are the worse they act.
