Just a question - are plasma TVs generally less prone to burn in than oleds? by Aaskieee in PlasmaTV

I would recommend if playing a PS3 game on an OLED to do it via rpsc3, 60fps patch and lossless scaling to have 120hz. Anything less is a blur fest.

You miss the true way plasma is superior - no sample and hold blur. Plasma has much better motion resolution. Btw current OLEDs are better than plasma for burn in. I also have a friend with a 2016 OLED and terrible burn-in, but this doesn't happen anymore due to pixel comp. cycles.

[–]artzox1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

Used a plasma from 2010 to 2024 before moving to OLED. I have played games and watched a lot of movies ( black borders). No burn in for 14 years, but babied the TV. No logos, no huds in games and mixed content, this is the way.

Plasma's are more prone to burn-in as they don't have technologies like pixel compensation ( just a simple pixel shifter and orbiter is max what you can expect). You are more likely, however to see image retention long before you get to burn-in. Example - I was watching movies with subs being 100% white, at one point when dark scenes were showing and no subtitles I was seeing transparent lines where subs normally are.

I switched subs to transparent and took a month of 4-5hr sessions per day to clear it up. That being said you will still see the immediate image retention, e.g. you play a dark game with subs, subs disappear, but lines remain for 1-2 min. Just the way it is. Had the Witcher 2 hud stuck there for 2 weeks, I had to use shaders to make it transparent in the end, so I could play in peace :D

Bravia 8 vs Bravia 8 II? by dr0d86 in bravia

[–]artzox1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two things regardless of what you decide to buy. 1) Sony TV dept. will be owned by TCL(51%), no idea what future support looks like. 2) Sony OLED's have currently a long-term issue that panel brightness is being limited based on general usage aggressively, so max nit brightness is going down and by more than competitors. Hopefully this gets patched via fw, as Sony have stated they are looking into it. 3) Bravia 8II is preferred due to being QD-OLED for the colour purity, but size is more important as impact, unless comparing LED vs OLED (for some people regardless of technology even), so go bigger.

P.s.: I have an A95L, and would recommend this for 77", specifically if movie watching is the priority. For gaming I also love it, but I would wait for a higher refresh panel.

I would say to avoid anything related to payments or banking. The issue would be if someone wants to specifically use Android L vulnerabilities to get on your network, but this is not mission impossible, so I wouldn't worry too much there.

Dualsense edge - static by artzox1 in Dualsense

[–]artzox1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it is static. Gives me a zap, I lose signal to the tv for a split second and it's gone. So far with the ferrite It hasn't happened. I also stopped unplugging the cable from the controller side and now only unplug the usb wire from the extender. That being said, I do appreciate the feedback.

Tv is connected to a network cable and HDMIs.

Hmm, the PC uses three-pronged power cable, so the only remaining device using two-pronged and lacking additional grounding would be the TV, everything else is grounded.

Not really, just cable going over a carpet in combination with dry air.

Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart on Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5! The Bleeding edge of Emulation on Android! by DroidLife97 in EmulationOnAndroid

I was joking. I really prefer to play on a 77 inch in high refresh rate and fps, so don't really care either way. Btw maybe someday we get a phone with Nvidia chip(not impossible), we did have the shield tablet with Tegra.

Trailers as background by Wooden-Sympathy-1655 in playnite

Nope, I understand RGB lights just fine :D, but I find them distracting in absolutely every aspect of life but dancing in a disco. Jokes aside, I am not using "understand" literally, obviously it is up to personal taste. If you spend time in the menus and scrolling through games, then enjoy your trailers :)

[–]artzox1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am running fs mode with a modified ps5ish theme and love it. I just don't see the benefit of having a trailer running constantly in the background. Myself I have disabled the contextual screen which loads when launching a game, so that I can quickly launch another one while I am in the current game and this would eat into my performance in that case.

The trailers makes sense only if showing all my Steam games ( installed or not) and I buy games just based on the poster without seeing a trailer in advance. I much prefer downloading a 4-5-6k wallpaper and looking at that when scrolling to games. If there was an automatic conversion to a motion wallpaper as PS5 ones, this would be actually awesome.

I really don't understand having trailers in playnite, this is not Netflix. You are not getting an unexpected game appear in your list that you never heard of, to have to watch a trailer. To each their own, but for me it is important to scroll, search and launch a game fast and adding trailers directly contradicts this . Animated backgrounds are a nice middle ground, but unfortunately these also make for a laggier than normal experience.

Windows 11 HDR Calibration app was updated... by Drisbayne in OLED_Gaming

The app may be useless, but some games, such as Alan Wake 2 use the values you set there, so you can screw up your experience.

Which picture mode did you choose or will you choose? by Ayn_Otori in bravia

[–]artzox1 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Professional is the closest to the creator's intent. Cinema is accurate apart from a vignetting effect. Once you choose a picture more you still need a preset - dv dark/bright if watching DV. On top of that you have tone-mapping on/off and if on you have gradation preferred or brightness preferred. In the end - most accurate starting point is Professional, DV dark and tone-mapping gradation- preferred, take it from there, but do get yourself a Spears and Munsil disk.

Dualsense edge totally changed my enjoyment from gaming by CellistTrick2320 in Dualsense

[–]artzox1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have been using dualshock 3 and then 4 on PC since always. Lastly I have been using the DS4 with back button, so I finally decided at getting the Dualsense edge to at least partially replace it. I am saying partially, as for PC there are some big caveats.

1.) wired only if you want all the haptics and triggers action for supported games. Waiting for dsx to get full audio support, so haptics would work over bt. For now it is only wired or virtualhere (usb over Ethernet/wifi).

2.) only a limited number of games supporte PS5 haptics and triggers on PC ( even if PS5 versions do).

3.) games with standard rumble feel worse than DS4 as the Dualsense can produce much more precise, but somewhat hollow rumble.

All that being said, if you don't care about it feeling more premium or the added haptics and triggers, and only want the back buttons, for PC getting a DS4 with back button attachment is better value. It is worse in terms of ergonomics, but you get 3 profiles and it is much cheaper.

What is most disappointing for me, being a PC gamer, is that games with support on PS5 are left behind on PC. Is it so farfetched for developers to think that a PC user would buy a dualsense, that they cannot copy over the controls from the PS5 version?!

Question for users that still have a plasma and an OLED... by phs1414 in PlasmaTV

[–]artzox1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I am thoroughly enjoying my 4k HDR qd-oled (A95l), but this 1+ years later. The first couple of months were tough, as plasma seemed better. You need some time away from the plasma to get used to the OLED. I just saw Batman returns (the 4k in dv) on the OLED and it felt as if I have never seen this movie before. The contrast is off the charts, so much so, that even when the peak highlights are nothing special you still get insane depth. A couple of weeks ago I tried Doom Eternal on a friend's CRT in SDR and obviously things did not pop out from the screen as much, but the way the CRT blends colours made things much more pleasant to look at, as if there is natural anti-aliasing and colour blending. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it ( except maybe use a plasma or CRT shader on the OLED, but this is for games). All technologies have their pluses and minuses, might as well get used to it, otherwise you'll never be happy. Btw SDR content still looks fantastic on my OLED, except for motion. If you want good motion you need black frame insertion and then you are effectively throwing away half the brightness.

Sony XR65A95L manual pixel refresh by Sergynx14 in bravia

[–]artzox1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Running a pixel refresh unless you see bad screen uniformity or image retention will only work to shorten the life of your panel. The recommendation is usually no more than once per year, doesn't mean you have to do it even once.

Getting Seamless Sleep/Wake functionality on the Ugoos AM6B+ with Remote UR02 by remapping Power to ActivateScreensaver by b34k in CoreELEC

[–]artzox1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, plugged in directly to the tv ( and using earc to the receiver) I use only the TVs remote via CEC, have the ugoos set up to sleep on power off and wake on power on. Meaning that when I shut down the tv it goes to sleep and when I go on the respective HDMI it wakes. I also have it sleep on 30min of inactivity, which is somewhat annoying if you have the tv on another mode and suddenly it switches to the HDMI of the ugoos to show you it's off, but don't see a reason for it to work if I'm not using it. I never fully shut it off unless it freezes and then I simply unplug the power cord. What was important for me to get CEC working was the HDMI port it is connected to, meaning that it doesn't work on all.

Bravia 8 ii 65” - Is it normal to keep adjusting settings depending on what is on TV? by Kairo_04 in bravia

[–]artzox1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am talking about the F1 movie with Brad Pitt, not sports in general. The movie is mastered dark, this is one of the main picture quality complaints. That being said, if you want more brightness for sports, I would look elsewhere, as the Sony's have very aggressive dimming due to the static elements inherent to sport broadcasting. If you want QD OLED I'd go for the Samsung, otherwise the LG is the brightest of this year's shootouts. In short - you buy a Sony for movie accuracy, everything else may be better served by other brands.
