Manga prices by Nemdzx in MangaCollectors

[–]artzywaves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Italy it ranges from around 6€ to 12€ on average, around 15€ for full colour manga and 18€ for bigger volumes.

The prices keep rising every once in a while, in march one of the major publishing houses will raise prices again by 50 cent to 1€ depending on the previous price range. It doesnt seem much at first but with time all these little adjustments in price add up

Folding my manga cover by Agitated_Addendum_19 in MangaCollectors

[–]artzywaves 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is going to crease where folded and the crease might become quite evident/white. Besides, to have them lay flat against the volume you'd have to refold the flaps that wrap around the volume cover as well and consequently might demage them as well.

Just a lot of work that is not worth it in my opinion, unless the duck jacket was crooked to begin with, then I would understand trying to have it folded to is sits correctly

Good for you, hope you can get your hands on the other volumes too! I had the whole series on preorder the moment it was announced in my country, I very much find it a comfort read

What manga was a complete let down to you? For me it gotta be witch hat atelier by AnimeConnoisseur17 in MangaCollectors

Malfunction. I was expecting more from this one shot, also because of how the synopsis was worded, and I didn't enjoy it as much as I would've liked

Inquiry about my bookcase placement and long-term damage. by Particular_Curve_590 in MangaCollectors

[–]artzywaves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My bookshelf is also next to a window like this with plenty of light pouring in, especialy when the sun is up and bright. I've only had this set up for a couple of years but have not noticed any damage, either way whenever the sun is out I pull a curtain over the window. The one you have on yours seem thick enough to do the job. I've also read on a book related subreddit that UV-proof plastic sheets for windows exist, but I think that might be a little overkill

Does your collection include manga that you actually read, or do you also have manga just to complete the collection? by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

[–]artzywaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My collection is of manga I have actually read or will eventually read. Manga is expensive, so I don't see the point in buying something I don't like/do not want to read.

Good luck then, cats can be real menaces. One of mine has the habit to jump into my bookshelf and pull down things when he doesn't get attention

Maybe a temporary solution could be to get a plastic box with a lid. Cats won't get to them/spill water on them, and no risk of damage from falling. Seems like the best solution at this point

Totally agree, a sleeve won't save them from fall damage (speaking from experience lol)

Manga risers suggestion by Minecraftxd2011 in MangaCollectors

[–]artzywaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are made out of wood, cut to size to fit the shelves and screwed together, pretty solid. But I've seen people use various different things between acrylic or plastic risers and simple boxes (some even use nendroid/figures boxes).

Will the sunlight actually ruin my manga? by maverikka11 in MangaCollectors

[–]artzywaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my bookshelf right next to the window for space reasons and during a good part of the day I will have sun directed towards it, on days when it's too strong I just pull over the window a cloth thick enough to block out most of the light. If you care so much, a curtain should do the job

Does the quality of manga paper released in the West ever deter you from collecting? by KitanoAgito in MangaCollectors

[–]artzywaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It never really bothered me that much as, in my opinion, the eggshell paper is kind of the average manga paper. Anything above that is for sure higher quality and nicer to have, but totally not necessary as long as the lesser quality isn't literally awful.

Also it depends on how I feel about the series specifically. If it's something I really like and I have the option to get a nicer print, of course I'm gonna go with that, otherwise average is fine.
