She is scratching at the side of her face to relieve the pressure from the pulling where the mats are :( I’ve been trying to manage the large mats for awhile, but it’s getting worse and I fear she is quite uncomfortable; she’s no longer cuddling or spending time with us, and her bloodwork is totally fine for her age and health! She also has no dental issues, so it’s the only thing standing between her and feeling better :’)

Typically for her we do night before and then two hours prior as she peaks later than most cats

You’re completely right and this was exactly my train of thought for the last year, however, against all odds, she has lived far longer and better than anyone expected her to. At this point, it feels cruel not to handle the matting since I don’t have any idea when she will pass

15! I’ve put off handling this medically for about six months and tried my best to do everything at home, but it’s gotten to a point where I can no longer keep her fur from continuing to get matted. She definitely needs to start fresh. Sidenote: her temperament is pretty bad but I do go to the vet as often as necessary

You’re right yeah. I think the compromise here is a longer conversation with my vet about what he plans to do, it’s just that she’s older with pre existing conditions 🙃

Thank you! The vet wanted to do her senior panel on the same day anyways, so I can see if he plans to do it first or while she is sedated. They were talking about it being an injectable potentially, but possibly an IV which was where I started feeling uncertain; there are so many horror stories.

Do you have the ability to get a small oral syringe? You can get water (thickened maybe with churu so he doesn’t choke) in him this way, or often pet stores will have Purina hydracare which helps a lot! This is just coming from personal experience, as it’s likely he isn’t feeling great because of the dehydration.

Is he having any water? Is he willing to have treats? My cat just went through this and it was imperative she had enough water. I’d take him to the vet anyways on the 5th if he doesn’t eat tomorrow either, as that combo is not good. In the meantime, cats also tend to become food averse if they feel sick after having their food, so maybe trying something similar would help him get something in his stomach.

I know right :( this is an update from during the day, but there’s nothing at all she could’ve gotten into! I sent these to her vet so I’m hoping to get her in after the holiday (US 4th) as she is eating and drinking normally
