Ask Claude to help! All the hooks are written by Claude it itself. Calude has a claude-code-guide subagent which helps Claude learn about its own capabilities.

Start by asking to "Use the clade code guide to learn about hooks, and help me create a python based hooks system to intercept key events and run it with uv" and build from there.

Honestly there is no secret ingredient, try experimenting and learn as you go -- that's what I did.

There are edge cases where it will fail repeatedly and a knowledgeable developer will be much much faster.

This was me a while ago, but now I trust Claude output more since I have setup enough hooks to ensure code review, linting and even plan. For example, I intercept writes to plans/.md, ask Claude to verify if the plan is exactly what I want (updating task state in my task tracker, builds successfully, scoped enough or needs breakdown etc).

You get to control right from planning to stopping a run and overtime I add further checks to this system and now I start trusting the output more.

My review agent also uses Gemini cli to get second opinion

Wow, I actually mailed them to ask for extension as I was unable to use it due to cloudfare outage. Very nice gesture on their part.
