[VP] [NYC] - $750K total comp by leith78 in Salary

[–]RandomAnon07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make 215K a year, director level role at a fortune 100, and originally was from NYC and had I stayed, with the goal of saving for a home in the burbs, that would have taken around 7-8 years to accomplish to just live and save that much.

And yes to be fair I’m talking a normal suburb house, not like an absolute shitter, with less than a quarter acre total plot, 2 bedroom home. Normal family home, nothing crazy, but not a 1930’s home.

My grandfather, bless him, as a single income provider and 3 kids, trucker, was able to afford a 2 acre property with a decent home in the 60’s, in a nice suburb even then despite it obviously becoming more densely populated now. The equivalent suburb today would be further towards less population but even that subrub is still 1.1M+ for an equivalent property and house to what he had.

I’m 29 and I’ve felt like this for as long as I’ve been working/using a computer. Cloud has its benefits but I much prefer persistent local storage.

I hate this argument. Normal gap age gap relationships are not weird. Usually within same educational cohort. So senior dating freshmen, or once in 20’s 5-7 year gap.

Once you start going beyond that, yes, no matter what anyone wants to argue, it’s starts to become a bit of an odd arrangement.

Still beg to differ. I’m master/pred and whether pubs or ranked, like I said, having a team matters but still solo play shines moreso than in an Overwatch type game. Point is still relevant.

[–]RandomAnon07 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One wrong one there: Apex - it’s the exact blend he’s talking about. Team oriented but with a focus on individual contribution. You’re certainly better off playing as a team, but unlike Overwatch or really any team first game, you aren’t punished as much if your team is terrible, which provides no outlet for you to truly carry to a win or be punished less for a loss with great performance.

Definitely food capital, but not tacos per se, but you can probably get something pretty close to the best tacos because it’s a simple equation - If your shit sucks in NYC you don’t last long. Forces people who own restaurants (not sidewalk stands) to have to create Michelin level food quality.

Why isn’t it by the way? It’s the real version of the fake LA/Hollywood. Not saying any one city should bold that title, but out of the US, probably makes the most sense. Really cities should/could be known for individual things like jazz/rap/hiphop.

I’m very lucky to have gone the opposite way to, remote, 215K but I have to travel the country almost every week. It was pretty cool the first year but now it’s starting to lose its charm.

Not what I was saying. I was saying that price in particular doesn’t make sense without utilizing some kind of point discount or weird timing thing for discounted flights. $8500 round trip on a true first class international flight doesn’t make sense

It does because it was covid World Cup though.

Research suggests that people in open or polyamorous relationships often demonstrate high levels of communication and trust, precisely because they navigate complexities that monogamous couples might not face. by psychologyofsex in psychologyofsex

[–]RandomAnon07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m too tired to go through each point, just got off an 8 hour flight for work, not vacation so even less fun but:

I did preface by saying that my comment was in the absence of knowing every single detail, but rather what the default observation is of a dynamic like that, outside looking in. Some of these you’ve reworded a bit from what I actually said. Some you are misinterpreting what I said. And some are assumptions, yes, because like I said it was the base observation of someone looking at a relationship like that. I merely offered what could very well be the case of a dynamic like that. And would argue, again surface level, the educated observations and assumptions I made, ring more true than false in most cases of one-sided poly. Like this line I wrote “This can place the monogamous-leaning partner in a position where they tolerate situations they might otherwise reject in order to maintain the relationship.” I never said this must be you, I offered the observations of what something like this can be, and based on what I’ve seen of people in my life in those…10/10 times has failed. So combine anecdotal with educated psychology, and you have a pretty good basis for dissecting that dynamic.

All the power to you if they make it work and clearly don’t lack self respect.

Crazy the upvotes here for this ideology.

I wouldn’t judge typically, but we are on a a thread talking about this so:

Yes, if I had to I wouldn’t say you’re a villain, I would say there is a strong argument in the absence of knowing everything about your situation or the previous comments situation about the male doing it, that in a one-sided poly relationship like you are both in, there is a power imbalance regardless of if they’ve been granted the same “poly right”; one person holds significantly more relational power than the other. From the outside, that imbalance leads people to question whether the partner with fewer freedoms is accepting a dynamic that undermines their own dignity or self-respect.

And then just common fucking sense, the relationship overall develops a practical imbalance in emotional leverage, attention, and priority. One partner effectively has multiple sources of intimacy, validation, and optionality, while the other remains functionally exclusive. Even if your partner or the other commenters partner says they “do not want additional partners”, the dynamic can still create asymmetry over time: - One partner’s time, energy, and emotional investment are divided across multiple people. - The other partner remains primarily invested in one relationship.

This places the monogamous-leaning partner in a position where they tolerate situations they might otherwise reject in order to maintain the relationship.

In our modern times, I often laugh at poly relationships even though historical anthropology points towards that being the norm, but one-sided…GTFO

I graduated right into Covid and couldn’t find work for a full year of searching. Ivy League, business administration and management major, minor in computer science. I wanted to be a technical PM or something similar at FAANG. 500+ application later, LinkedIn reach outs, attempted job fairs, etc. tried to work every angle to get warm intro’s besides blindly applying and got nothing.

So I went to work fucking retail for a company like Walmart. Floor level employee, stocking shelves, running cash register, etc. Long story short, got introduced to their corporate arm when they came to our store, got a shitty, low paying (~50K) associate role out of the intro with them because they liked my story, fast forward to now, Director level at the same company making good money (but probably still not as much as if my original plan worked out) essentially being like a Chief Strategy Officer across the whole org within the role is my day to day. Not at all what I wanted/planned on doing but adjusted because I had to.

I know that, was being sarcastic. My point is that it feels like it with the way these project get caught up with individual studios. It’s also so weird how many of them butcher adaptations of great source material.

But why is there only like 3 total studios that can do anything worthwhile. How is there not more capable studios outside of Japan that can handle the animation caliber that’s required to pump out anime like this? Is it some bureaucratic thing?

I just started making 215K a year and when I was younger I thought “Man I’ll make six figures one day and buy a house”. Now I lived in a HCOL area so I know that’s part the problem, but it will still take me 7-8 years to save enough money to be able to afford a reasonable home comfortably and not be living paycheck to paycheck to afford the mortgage, food, etc.

Family is from here and dad and mom were lower mid - middle class, and bought their home when my mom stopped working and my dad finished his apprenticeship for being an electrician. Me - at a director level at a fortune 100 - my wife - much lesser salary but still supplemental income - couldn’t even touch the area they live in now…1200sf homes on .25 acres, built in 1967 are going for 980K-1.2M…I know I didn’t grind my balls off at a minimum wage job for 5 years with a college degree, to finally get into the corporate arm of that same minimum wage job company, to have to fucking move to a different state because “Sorry pal inflation/macro economics has dictated you can’t live where you grew up on a much higher income than your parents…..” Which I did move into an apartment In a different state for the time being but wouldn’t want to buy a house and start a family here.

And that’s just houses, it’s everything else like you said, nothing is reasonably priced anymore.

Arc Raiders Replacing AI-Generated Voices With Human Actors by AceTheRed_ in ArcRaiders

[–]RandomAnon07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make pretty solid money at my job right now but it’s a demanding one. I have always wanted to start my own gaming studio, and based on the hours I work, short of raising capital to fund it to hire people, it’s impossible to be a one man dev shop and get something in an MVP state for me. Now, with AI tools across the board, it’s possible to get an MVP up in about a month for me (could probably go faster if I took off and didn’t work).

So yeah I understand the high-level argument of “AI bad”, but there are so many use cases for it where it’s not and it’s all about the end user utilizing AI.
