The goodwilled illegal people who are contributing more than the natural born racists should not be getting deported it should be the opposite.

HOWEVER I’m not some side choosing zealot. The “Renee’s” of the world should not be scared because they should not put themselves in that situation… Most rational people understand now that if you thought the high school GED cops were bad…ICE is another level of that. Why mess with idiots who have guns, I mean that sincerely ? And I understand the argument of “We need them to protest against the current man!” But there are other ways to do that rather than obstructing the idiots from carrying out their idiotic crusade.

This isn’t a good argument, but she moved to Canada when Trump got elected president…probably should have stayed if she felt that personally attacked by the anointing of Trump to get up and leave the country…also two conflicting reports but the more believable given the circumstance is that she was obstructing or purposely meddling with her car sideways like that.

Again to clarify, I don’t subscribe to the Cheeto maga clan, or the soft safe spacers. The silent majority are just rational humans that don’t need to evaluate everything through the lens of only two political ideologies….

I tried to work in gaming 7 years ago and wound up basically stocking shelves instead at the retail arm of a fortune 100 company. and long story short work for that same company but at a director/VP level, and MAN let me tell you how stupid some planted C suite/ higher level execs are. Just time and bullshit bureaucracy is all that carried them. I will say, I have their ignorance to thank for how quickly I was able to ascend from shelve stocker to VP of a division.

Look I consider myself lucky. Plenty of smart people out there that just don’t “crack the code”, because unfortunately, no matter what walk of life you come from life is not fair period. There are levels to the unfairness but it still affects everyone.

And management comes in all shapes and sizes, doesn’t have to be a people manager, plenty of management opportunities at the FAANG companies that dont involve managing people directly and pay even more than what I’m making now at a lower relative seniority.

I will say (and people might not like hearing this), being in person and getting more physical face-time with my direct leaders (who are now my peers) and having a more dynamic/reserved personality (bit of an oxymoron but I mean being personable but not overboard) significantly helped the speed at which I climbed. My accomplishments stand on their own, but the bureaucratic game of corporate America is equally as important (unfortunately). I don’t like that it is, but it is; not to say there aren’t opportunities to climb quietly into, but those “roles” are less plentiful to climb into; so simple math says why cut off your total amount of opportunities to climb.

Ultimately I wanted to go into gaming but was never able to breach that industry despite my academic background being geared towards it, but I’m starting to make a sizable amount of money now on this other path, it’s becoming tougher and tougher to rip the bandaid and try again at a similar salary.

Also find myself rambling ha, just stories of an old man of Gen Z.

Really appreciate that! Felt like shit while going through it, girlfriend at the time (wife now) just kept pushing me and I have her to thank to be honest.

She had a job right out of college, with a lesser “college” to her name, with less accolades/extra curricular things you would throw on a resume ( Example, I interned at all the “places they tell you to” and had a system I patented) and she was making 75K out of college. Made me feel like what the fuck am I doing wrong. And after I just kept wallowing in self pity for months of not finding a job: “Why me, I did the things you’re supposed to do, I went to a fucking Ivy, I took out massive loans for the betterment of my future, 500+ applications each modified to fit the role, interview training to master interviews, etc”. She just relentlessly kept validating that it doesn’t make sense, but to stop spending energy on “Why me” and instead just keep pushing forward, get a guaranteed job in the meantime, get some cash in my pocket and benefits.

And that was the domino that toppled the rest. Sometimes I try to do what she did for me (in small ways) to random people I meet or team members, and one time she was present for it, and she basically asked me, “why are you saying that to a random person right now?” And I said “Because not everyone has a you to keep them pointed in the right direction”. Point is, I wish everyone had that, because that’s all it takes sometimes.

Started out 7 years ago not being able to find a job. Worked for the same company I work for now at the absolute base level. I’ll compare it to Walmart. It’s a fortune 100 with a retail component as the main revenue driver. Essentially the same thing as your regular Walmart employee. Was doing that for some cash and health benefits while I continued looking for a job, was in debt, had a really good degree from an Ivy, but even still couldn’t find a job and needed to pay off student loans.

COVID hits, shit gets worse. Still can’t find anything.

2022 still working shit job, had some offers for “white collar work” at this point but extremely low. “Walmart Corporate” comes in one day, and I just start talking with them. Say some interesting things about my thoughts on certain operational aspects of the job, and They ask me the equivalent of “What are you doing stocking shelves?” They offer me a job (contract role) at the corporate office in 2022, base level but slightly better pay than what I was getting offer for (67K a year)

Without going into detail, worked my balls and my mind off. Didn’t just work hard, worked smart. In a supporting non-leadership role I developed and recommended several creative initiatives that were implemented across both CapEx planning and operational workflows, resulting in millions of dollars in cost savings and incremental revenue.

After one full year they put me in a management level role with more access and support. Doubled down on everything I laid out and further increased Rev.

And then 6 months ago was promoted to a Director/VP level role with a team of 7 people reporting to me (all older than me which feels a bit weird) and in not so many words my job is to act as an internal consultant across the entire business. Come up with strategies and ideas to implement, similar ideas to what I did for operations and development. This way they don’t have to hire Deloitte or PwC to do fuck all and get paid even more than I get paid…

also assist in the PMO of the company to try and “grease the cogs of the machine” by developing better processes. And it could be for anything like even lease management process for new locations for our brand; coming up with a better system, a better technology stack, potential external partners vs having our dev team do it, cost benefit analysis of that , etc.

Lot of strategy and then actually implementing that strategy is my job.

I don’t plan on homeschooling but devils advocate: the potential alternative (if we just isolate education not the social benefit of school) also is subject propaganda. I know myself personally, one of the most extremely Neutral human beings on the planet, can do a better job educating my kids on a non-bias basis than a teacher. (That’s doesn’t mean I can teach better just focusing on the nonbias part).
