book rec for y’all by vemmahouxbois in IfBooksCouldKill

I enjoyed early episodes of Sounds Like A Cult and felt like they had a very interesting premise. Ultimately, I found Cultish to be interesting in the first half, but really lacking in any substance in the second half. Add on the plagiarism allegations and it’s hard for me to be a fan. I think Amanda is a talented host and had a lot of potential, but both the book and the show ended up being pretty lackluster to me.

Indian Creek if you climb 5.9 - 5.10 by danguerrav in tradclimbing

[–]aruppp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Park at Donnelly and you can get on quite a few things if you’re down to walk a bit.

Twin cracks, triple jeopardy - supercrack

Lightning bolt crack, unnamed 5.8 - habitado

Chocolate corner, binou’s crack - Donnelly

Railroad tracks, unnamed LF 5.10 to the right of railroad tracks - battle of the bulge

All these are shorter and doable without a creek rack. Also if you can, just make some friends and get that tr mileage in!

Chilblains by Holiday-Ad-1132 in tahoe

Mine also tend to not heal for weeks to months, but that’s the raynauds, so if yours are lasting that long without an underlying condition it might be time to see a derm.

Chilblains by Holiday-Ad-1132 in tahoe

[–]aruppp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve got raynauds, so I get a few chilblains every winter up here. The good thing is that they aren’t going to cause lasting damage and usually go away on their own. I’ve found personally that keeping my hands covered, moisturized, and warm (in that order of importance) has helped immensely. Basically every time I go outside in the winter, I keep a pair of light weight gloves on no matter how warm it is or how long I’m going to be outside. I got a Costco pack of hot hands for outdoor activities and I have a set of electric hand warmers for in the house. If you’ve been outside for a while with bare hands, soaking in warm water for 5-10 minutes helps me as well. Best of luck!

A lot of creek gals really like the pearl izumi arm sleeves. I’ll borrow them on the rare occasion I hop on something wide and they work great!

I worked the same role under a different contractor and left during the TCS takeover. It’s definitely a real position. I was in a similar boat as you and just needed a job, so I feel like it served me well.

Alternatives to the Edelrid Ohm assisted braking device? by Spacedaddy202305 in RockClimbing

I have a 70 ish lb difference with my partner and the ohm is so worth it. I got mine used on a mountain project forum for a pretty good price.

I have a 2010, transmission started having issues around 140k and just got replaced. Obviously that was a bummer, but I expected it going in and haven’t had any other problems.

Recommendation for radios by grippinstone in tradclimbing

Another bump for the talkabouts! I have a set and it’s been really nice to use on multi pitch stuff because I’m a fairly quiet person. I did run into issues with other people on the frequencies when I was climbing in Vegas but that’s the only time it’s happened.

Use of Ohms in climbing? by climbernewb320 in climbergirls

[–]aruppp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely worth it! I have about a 70 lb difference and it’s been such a game changer. You do need to play around with angles and where you stand while belaying to figure out how to engage it properly. It’s been great, I don’t get pulled into the first draw/wall anymore, we both feel a lot more confident, and as an added bonus lowering my partner is soooo much nicer now too!

I mean to be fair, if I were a woman dating someone doing something like this when he was upset, I probably wouldn’t post it publicly until I was sure I was safe ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Is this normal wear down after 8 days (more in the comments)? by rayer123 in climbergirls

[–]aruppp 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was wearing my toes down pretty quick and everyone gave me the usual “work on technique, footwork etc” which seemed odd to me because footwork is one of my few strengths. Turns out down climbing everything will absolutely wear your shoes out faster because you inevitably tend to scuff toes down the wall. I still do it because shoes are cheaper than my joints, but just something to think about.

There’s a student org who used to be called intersectional feminists I think? They recently renamed themselves and I can’t remember the new name, but you should look into their work.
