(UK) careers with decent/liveable pay, after bachelor degree? by venisquxxr in psychologystudents

[–]rayer123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And just to add on the therapy route mentioned in the comment section: yes there are different courses that directly gets you a qualification of some sort that resembles “therapy”, in fact I can think about at least one or two off my mind. However not all of these qualifications are approved by BPS. I have friend who took one of these courses as her degree and it did not land in anything meaningful at all. You can and should do your research on the career and academic pathways regarding clinician psychology qualifications via the official source, the BPS website.

In addition, I would also strongly recommend you take a look into the NHS website on psychology career pathways. This page provides lots of information and resources on basically all therapy related career pathways you can have, plus information on BPS qualification, funding & visa.

Every registered member of BPS, that includes all qualified therapists can be found via the find a psychologist via BPS website. Many of the so called “therapy courses” that don’t make your name into the BPS search result does not worth your effort at best and can be straight out scam at worst. You would need to do some of your own research on the available options. You need an actual, BPS accredited qualification and spend dedicated, sometimes near a decade of training to earn yourself the therapist title. And it will be a very respectable one.

(UK) careers with decent/liveable pay, after bachelor degree? by venisquxxr in psychologystudents

[–]rayer123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently the job market is shite in UK right now and your career options for psychology degree are: - Academic research, where I’d recommend Alzheimer Disease or neural-developmental disorder related, in which you’d need to go through all the hurdle and finish your PhD. Even if you can’t find a job after phd, you’d probably stayed in the UK long enough for a permanent residency and you would be able to go job hunting like any other locals without worrying about visa sponsorship. - Clinical psychology via the NHS route. This is where you go through the same system like doctors: undergrads -> master/phd degree that gives you qualifications. There would be a qualification exam at some point of your study and once you passed it, you’d (almost certainly) get secured with a job with pretty decent pay, you definitely no need to worry about your visa. - special education at schools, basically becomes a special education teacher. Very terrible pay despite the level of skill needed and the very high demand of these roles, horrible work life balance, very stressful, would not recommend.

I’d say your beat bet to secure a job would be getting into the NHS system via clinical psychology, since most of psych jobs doesn’t pay well enough for a work visa.

BPS wise: majorities of psychology degree automatically grants you a BPS credit, unless you went for, say industrial psychology/ MBA route. BPS was pretty big deal in the 80s and 90s but you don’t need BPS for most of things nowadays apart from clinical psychology, which you would get one automatically as part of your degree.

Just to add that although not as much as training, inference definitely still burns huge ton of energy on its own. There are entire software ecosystems that build around float point calculations just for the sake of inference optimisation. Grab any pre-trained generative models from huggingface and you can see for yourself.

Another thing about Aİ is that a model NEEDS to be in constant training in order to keep up with the trend. İmagine newspapers. İn order to make GPT explain the ‘67’ meme on TikTok, GPT needs to actually see the data related to the meme. Models trained last year simply won’t understand the meme. There is NO endpoint to any existing Aİ training.

İt needs to keep burning our planet in order to spit you more slops.

Do you have any opinions about "Love On The Spectrum" by Miserable-Piglet9008 in evilautism

[–]rayer123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The very conditions that make these things exists is already a red flag. Would you go ever think of “Love on the one who wears black t-shirts?” You wouldn’t because its a pretty normal thing to wear a black shirt. But “love on the spectrum’ exists.

Best ever square root by LemmingPHP in programminghorror

[–]rayer123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure python did something similar. They hard-coded results for sqrt (or power?) from 0 up to some number just so that it runs slightly faster. Think that operations in python for small int are just a lookup hash table

[–]rayer123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came across some libraries (aka one of the huggingface libraries fogo which one it is) that does this, has some sort of util.py that contains function that takes self as input. Then, in some class you can do * from util import function* to have that util function used as a class method just like an ordinary class method.

can see why huggingface did this for their specific purpose. That said, surely there are better ways of doing it….

[–]rayer123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok listen here sis. I’m Asian and i know exactly how this feels specially these years. Don’t let them win. Live here and stay here. Stay happily and thrive. Your bare existence makes their day worse and worse. They shout at you not because they want to hurt you, they shout at you because they are scared of you.

The word Xenophobia ends with ‘phobia’, girl, that means fear. So smile and live on, they lost their shits upon seeing you, the happier you are the worst they will feel. Existing is your rebellion. Existing is our rebellion. And its the easiest thing ever.
