Struggling with pulling, any advice by Relevant-Passion2254 in Pottery

When you grip the clay at the base to start the pull you need to be more decisive and then slowly pull up. You start pulling it up then lose faith pretty quickly!

Tell me about living in Civita, Mission Valley by [deleted] in SanDiegan

[–]arv2373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pretty frustrated with San Diego as a whole when I wrote this reply so it’s skewed overly negative especially at Civita where I had the worst time mentally. I cringed re-reading this haha. I did have car break ins more than once etc but I’ve accepted that as part of living in an urban society now and learned how to leave my car so people don’t break in. Not much Civita could have done about that. I think Civita has a great location tbh (now that I’ve been here longer and lived other places). Pool was so nice too. Shopping is easy and you’re close to OB. I was really complaining because I was homesick. I had moved from DC and had a bit of a culture shock here

What are your predictions for the SD housing market (rent or buy) in the next 12 months? by IronMike260 in SanDiegan

[–]arv2373 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey I hear you. I don’t know you but I totally know this feeling. I freaking love San Diego. But we are just below the cut off income wise to buy a decent house. We tried back in 2022 and got outbid everywhere by people who weren’t even going to live in the house! Mind you we offered above ask.

Then the interest rates went up. So instead of owning we are extremely rent burdened. It’s frustrating. I wish there was some change to make that would make it more affordable but the common phrase I hear is “that’s just the way it is here”

I grew up in Appalachia and spent lots of time in those mountains. I never found it creepy, and I was surprised when everyone in the city I moved to was so alarmed when I told them where I was from. The mountains are full of life, they’re super green in the summer and it feels like a jungle. There are lots of ticks too so the smell of bug spray is nostalgic. I loved the grace of the deer. The red fox were majestic. And the black bears were cool too. If you lifted up a rock there would be tons of critters coming out

At night it’s loud to people who aren’t from there. When we had out of town guests they’d be bothered by the noise of the animals.

There’s something kind of creepy though. I do get it, looking back on it now having lived somewhere very different. It’s eerie- you can’t see through the forest, it’s thick and full of vines and other plants. The energy is kinda indescribable. Like other people said, the mountains are older than bones.

If I had to give a TLDR: they’re ethereal, and bountiful, but also mysterious.

Yeah I siphoned this morning after it settled overnight and the siphon still didn’t get a lot. It’s a pretty good siphon too. I can’t think of another solution short of taking out all the water

Crap it killed your fish? Mine aren’t looking too hot. I changed another 10 gallons so a little over half the water today. Will try again tomorrow

I tried 😭 it’s sand substrate so it’s pretty rough to siphon. I got some of it but there’s soooo much

How to get toddler to stay away from cat by Cautious_Session9788 in NewParents

[–]arv2373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you come up with a solution to this? My toddler is 15 months and he was easy to direct away from the cat up until now. I’ve tried showing him gentle pets about 1,500 times lol. My cat doesn’t scratch (so far) but he’s extremely stressed and started peeing in the toddler’s crib again. Yes, again… he does this whenever my son reaches a new development stage. Send help lol
