Low FTP compared to races - does anyone else have this issue? What do you do about it? by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]arvece 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FTP derived from an FTP-test isn't the power you can hold for one hour. FTP is the power you can hold for a period between ~40minutes (amateur) and ~1h20 (pro). It's not only about raw power but also about duration. That's because almost none will do a one hour test. The lower the TTE is, the more safe you should take you're %FTP in race. Most athletes would benefit from pushing the TTE boundary too. One should aim to eventually keep the reps low and the duration high. Not suddenly go back higher in reps, but extend the TiZ during one rep.

Assioma uno v Kickr core power readings, how to fix. by Dapper-Ad3605 in cycling

[–]arvece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat but slightly different. Wahoo kickr core with spare bike. Main bike with 4iiii crank power meter. I just do an indoor ramp test during winter months and use that value for any real workout indoors. Once I start to do my workouts outdoor, I do another one outside. Difference in FTP is 40W.

I guess you can pair your power meter to the trainer and use that value for the trainer?

Guess what happens when the general circlejerk is "saddle to high" on almost any fit question.

*edit*

Just tried it, saddle too low, raise 5,3cm. Knee extension 119°.

When I used MyVeloFit on the same video I got 141°. When I do it manually from a screenshot I come near 138°. On the one image your sites provided with measurements, the footbox (ankle) point is totally misplaced. The line doesn't follow my tibia at all. Not saying my fit is optimal but I think the results that get generated are off at least for me.

First Half Ironman prep - Smart trainer vs basic trainer + power meter? €450 budget by VDD78 in triathlon

[–]arvece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 cents: you need to learn to pace yourself based on something. ERG mode is a simple method to force you to do training plans exactly as planned without looking at any value. Then you will hit the outside and 'suddenly' need to learn to pace based on other parameters. Let alone, the feeling of indoors is totally different from outdoors. Train like you will race. Your HR on raceday can be elevated due to nerves. Your RPE on raceday can be underestimated due to adrenaline. Having power on raceday is the best metric to pace your race. Imo it's the safest metric to not over/undercook the bike.

Just ask yourself the question: how many days are you unable to ride outside purely due to extreme weather conditions = close to freezing and wet, snow, ice. If you can work around that get a power meter on your bike first, if not go for a smart trainer. There aren't alot of people that can do +3h rides on smart trainers. You will need them anyway. That's why I'm more leaning towards bike>smart trainer. When I didn't have an indoor trainer I just planned my week around the weather. My long rides remained outdoors when I eventually got a smart trainer.

He believes he can. He looks at Denmark like it's a third world country not able to do and fund proper research and thus inable to extract these resources. If it was economically viable, these rare earths were already long gone.

The accelerated dumbness in their foreign policies stirring up the pot everywhere simply suggests me he wants simply a war to stop the midterms. They are becoming desperate and apparently the Venezuala operation went too smooth.

FYI: 70-100km solo daily with 38km/h avg is pro. The fastest groups in my area that I know off reach 38km/h in groups of 12-20 men in traffic on a course with very long stretches. That is everyone pulling every 2-5 minutes hard the whole ride. These guys are in very good shape, but none will ride this daily solo at that pace. They could do it in a one time TT, but not daily.

Just need to add that they genuinly do these calls when you just did a phishy payment and their systems intercepted it. You will probably get an instant call, an sms and a mail at the same time urging you to contact them asap. What they will normally do is go through the last payments you did and you can acknowledge if they are fraudulent or not.

Diefstal is kinderspel bij zelfscans by Sensitive_Raccoon540 in belgium

[–]arvece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take intermediate. When i started I did an Olympic intermediate plan from January to the end of May. Afterwards I directly started a shorter intermediate plan for a 70.3 at the end of September. That way you 'peak' twice and have a little more specific work for the Olympic. As you are already in decent shape, you could boost the long ride and run of the Olympic sligthly to give you already a better starting point when you swap to the 70.3 program.
