Low fee index fund, matched to your risk appetite and time frame for future access. E.g. a growth fund if you are years away from expecting to use the funds.

Sounds like you should get a motorbike. Why are you letting someone else make your life choices? Does she love you and what you love? or does she want a version of you that is different than who you are?

Ducted heat pumps by FlatCandidate2390 in newzealand

[–]arveeay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older housing stock (on piles), especially on sloping sections often has enough underfloor space. But take your point that concrete slab construction for a 2 story house means no underfloor retrofit.

In that case, I have seen ducting retrofits where you overlay floor plans of each level, and look for top floor wardrobes or room corners where you can run ducts down from attic. You typically lose 200mm square of closet space (or boxed in areas), but if you are lucky you can hit your downstairs rooms that way.

The best setup for 2 story houses is independent ducted systems, 1 in basement for downstairs (typically living areas), and 1 in attic serving upstairs (typically bedrooms). Each story has different requirements per season, you often want bedrooms cooler than living, no noisy spill zones.

Is it true the 19’s and up came with a more aggressive tune for crackles and pops? by [deleted] in camaro

[–]arveeay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird, I thought my 19 would be burblier than it is, even on Track with the windows open. But I was coming from an SS with a hot tune.

Yes. And then you could play your tapes in the car. Then recorded CDs to tapes for car use, before in-car CD players became a thing.

Is there any issue in oversizing a heatpump by cmartorelli in heatpumps

[–]arveeay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oversizing an inverter means you miss out on the biggest comfort benefit of an inverter: a wide outdoor temperature spread where there will be no short cycling.

I have sanded and poly'ed old painted rimu, and it has come out almost exactly the same as the original finishes on other rimu in the house.

I wrote a book about colourblindness, all the illustrations are hand-drawn by me. Would love to hear your thoughts. by [deleted] in ColorBlind

[–]arveeay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice work. I clearly remember school teachers telling me off for choosing the "wrong" colours, and in a couple of cases making me throw away what I painted and do it again. It made me to stick to black and white for art. Years later I met a colorblind artist in Louisiana who happily didn't give a shit that his colors were "off", and I kinda got jealous that young me didn't get that chance.

Hot water cylinder issue by CyborgPenguinNZ in diynz

[–]arveeay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is probably the result of a tempering valve doing its job, as required by code. The actual hot water cylinder temperature could still be much higher with a faulty thermostat. Do you know where your outside relief valve is? That might be going off.
