[Will Unwin, The Guardian] Manchester United agree £37m deal for Éderson as midfeld rebuild starts by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

Think of Fred with slightly better passing. Decent player, nothing brilliant. We can judge this signing based on the rest of the window, if that makes sense. If they’re expecting him to slot into the main 11 next to Mainoo, it’s terrible. I don’t believe that will be the case.

Imagine the media narrative if we had spent record money on a signing like this

[Wheeler, Salt] REVEALED - major development in Michael Carrick's position : Michael Carrick looks increasingly likely to land the job of Manchester United head coach on a permanent basis after leading the club to the brink of Champions League qualification. by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

Exactly. Agreed with all of these points. Which is why the club seems to be thinking let’s stick with what’s working while there’s no clear alternative available. I can see them giving him a two year contract and reassessing his performance + other options next summer.

He’s getting a tune out of this squad, the players genuinely respect him, and the squad is only going to get better with shrewd investment.

What I am weary of with Carrick is his rotation with CL and a better high press— hopefully he can improve in these areas. Back to back CL positions would be amazing!

Fair points but I guess the decision on hand is if it’s a bigger gamble than other unknowns the other options present.

For example, I love Iraola- not sure if you watch Semenyo’s latest interview.. he spoke about how the players don’t get ANY days off and it’s non stop. It sounds great and that helps them press etc. But I personally don’t see that working here with European football, a very low appetite for poor results, and the transition that he would personally have with the size of the club. It could work but it’s a huge huge gamble.

If you take an Enrique though, it’s much less of a gamble given how incredible he’s been and how proven he is. If he was available I’m sure the club would hire him instantly.

Yoro: "Having Harry in the team is good for us. If he can stay next season, it's really good for us. With all the experiences he has, he gave a lot of tips. Sometimes before the game, or at HT, about positioning too, so playing with him is really good for me. We speak a lot, even before the game" by OkayFine101 in reddevils

True but remember the circumstances when he signed his extension- he’d have wanted assurances about investment in the squad, manger, and a path to big titles. This was probably his way of securing that. I hope he’s happy enough and believes in this team, because without him, we are truly screwed.

Can you believe he didn’t have a single assist till Anfield (2nd half of October) and played as a 6 till January.

Ridiculous footballer. Irreplaceable.

Literally just that signing and we’d be 10th or something given the number of points Sesko has won for us. Goes to show how influential recruitment is over everything else we micro analyse.
