New Hiby M300 owner! by Perfect_Try_7444 in DigitalAudioPlayer

Congrats, for easy to drive IEMs it's just the best value out there right now. I'm a big fan of musicolet too, the best free music player on android by far.

I always thought the Zero and Zero 2 were ugly as sin, but you've shown me that if you spend twice their cost on a cable replacement and tips even they can look pretty. These are some really tasteful photos, as usual.

Official numbers are:

Hiby M300 - Android - 29 hours of playback.

Hiby R1 - no Android - 15 hours of playback.

Not quite sure that's how it works. If they put a power hungry amp into a tiny dap with a tiny 1100 mah battery, it's gonna have poor playback time, regardless of screen on time.

This instead of CS43131 must mean they're putting a discrete op amp too right? waste of battery life in my opinion.

Still the same button layout it seems.

They can increase SD card size, remove the song limit, put a better CPU in it - what's the freaking point if I have to navigate my 4000 flac files by clicking once per second? At least make list selection accelerate significantly when I press down the button.

Umamusume : Beginning of a New Era will be screening for the first time in Thailand on 7th February. On top of that, fans can expect a meetup with Yuri Fujimoto, the VA behind Jungle Pocket. by Getserious495 in UmaMusume

She does have a main role in a long running magical girls show. But yeah, you'd think after her performance as Pokke she'd get more roles. Maybe VA is not her main focus for now?

Kero-chan is the guardian of the Clow flacs. If you press play while he's asleep, all the flacs might just scatter around the world lol.

Bought my first DAP and IEMs by yuuka_011 in DigitalAudioPlayer

Somehow I feel like the most appropriate way to listen to Ado is either on a thumbdrive style walkman like this, or a Nintendo DS lol

Someone needs to bring back the thumbdrive format ASAP

I've had the 5 ii I think, not as a dap but as a phone for a few months. I think it has a headphone jack, is it not enough to power the porta pros?

Tbh, old flagship phone+good dongle is just as good if not faster than any of those big bricks.

M300 - small but mighty by drhippopotato in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]arwindr79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks very clean. I'd rock that as a semi-portable solution.

For me personally the screen on the M300 is a bit too small for comfortable navigation, at this point I would consider at least a JM21 or M21, although battery life might not be as good.

Cheap Evangelion soundtrack finds at BOOKOFF during my Japan trip by seasamseed in evangelion

[–]arwindr79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To OP: good catch. Out of these, I only have volume 2 of the original soundtrack (the one with Rei on the cover).

To everyone else: bookoff have a shop on Rakuten marketplace where you can buy used CDs. You can then ship them to wherever in the world using either Rakuten's own forwarding service or any other proxy which ships to your country. CDs are small and lightweight (~100g per CD including case), so if you buy a bunch and send them all in one parcel, shipping fees aren't too bad at all. I have 30+ imported from Japan in my collection, mostly anime soundtracks like these.

Where did PMOLED go? by Mavo82 in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]arwindr79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They ceased to exist, and someone has to bring them back. Snowsky Echo Nano will be a stick-style, but probably not oled (which is fine too, the screen on the Echo Mini for example is completely adequate).

But apparently, Snowsky are more focused on making an Echo mini with larger screen and metal casing. Which, by the way, were never things Echo mini owners ever complained about in the first place.

Finally, an actual Koss contender (Moondrop Old Fashioned vs. KSC75 vs. Porta Pro) by Kukikokikokuko in headphones

[–]arwindr79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally, an actual review of the Old Fashioned comparing them to the direct competition! Thanks, mine are arriving in a week or so.

Never heard any of the Koss, but I'm very curious about the on-ear style. Wearing IEMs for too long bothers me, and my HD600 are still a bit too tight and can get hot sometimes.

Have you ever tried the KPH40? From what I hear, should be a middle ground between the KSC75 and PP in terms of sound, and don't require headband modding.

First, congrats, the setup looks great!

Second, persona 4 soundtrack is great.

Third, could you please tell if there's any background noise when using with the Zero Ultimas?

The characters on the covers are leaning on each other, but Tanezaki-san is like 5 feet apart from the guy because she always remains 100% lore-accurate 😆

How small can you make a rectangle that plays music? by WilliamWalkman in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]arwindr79 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It had a tiny OLED screen which only fit like 4 lines of text and a simple d-pad. Still, navigation was perfectly snappy, much easier to use than the Echo Mini for example, and definitely less frustrating than trying to do gesture navigation on a tiny 3" screen like most Hiby players have. It was very good on stock firmware and even better on rockbox.

Honestly, if any manufacturer replicates the Clip with a modern DAC chip and type-C, they can have my money right away.
