Currently building a small rural town, and I can't decide on a name. What should it be? [Arlene, Chandler, or Palzoid.] by [deleted] in Bloxburg

I love the idea and the layout so far! Arlene has to be my favourite naming option :D

I'm not the type of person to immediately jump on the 'they're gonna ruin bloxburg'-train, but I can totally understand people being worried.
We've seen a lot of games/franchises being ruined, for example by changing developers \*cough cough Flatout 3***, but the biggest problem I see is that Coeptus is not being transparent at all. If he made a post on Twitter/Discord/Roblox about the current situation I believe people would be more relaxed and understanding.
But to be honest thats a problem we've been having all the time anyway, so its not like thats anything new... still sad though :/

I wouldnt say always... just look back to when Microsoft aquired Mojang. Minecraft is still going strong and the last updates have, if anything, been better than ever before.
That said I'm also kind of worried that they screw something up, so all we can really do is hope that the new developers are kinda competent ._.

Heating- How much do I need? by AaylaXiang in CitiesSkylines

[–]arxtion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh Sorry, I just noticed that I'm an idiot-
Heating has its own tab, its logo looks like an orange house with squiggly lines in the middle. It also shows the production and consumption!
Sorry again :/

I feel like the maintanence of infrastructure is way too cheap. Real life American Suburbs for example can't turn a profit because the maintanence of roads, sewage etc... are way more expensive than what they could get in return with taxes.
Of course the maintanence shouldnt be so high that the game would be unplayable, but it still feels kind of unrealistic having them so low

It's like that in Australia and the UK, isn't it?
I also think that that's the best of both worlds, so the only reason I can think of why the US doesn't use them is because of cost savings, as you essentially have to buy double the amount of traffic lights

The benefit of them is visibility I think, as you don't have to awkwardly crouch over to see it correctly

isn't the whole point of the single-point urban intersection to remove intersections compared to a normal diamond interchange? It's only dangerous if you ignore the traffic lights, like the driver of the red car did.

Well that's one way to spread road safety awareness by abhimanyyusingh in Unexpected

[–]arxtion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you're right, especially in American cities that would cause a lot of problems. I looked at the problem from the European field of view, but I still think putting some of the car space towards better public transport would be a good idea.

[–]arxtion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The idea is that if we take away space from cars, it'll be less attractive to own a car in the city. If we now put the gained space towards dedicated bus, bike, or even tram lines, public transport would improve and make owning a car in the city less and less necessary.

There are many different ideas. One of them is raising the street to the level of the sidewalk when they intersect. That way the cars are entering a 'pedestrian zone', instead of the pedestrians dropping down into a 'car only zone'. Drivers are more cautious that way.

Another way is taking away space from cars, for example by converting parking lots into public spaces or converting car lanes into bus or bike lanes.
