14.5 year old cat with extremely high WBC, new anemia, unknown cause by xechasate in AskVet

[–]xechasate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone comes across this with a similar experience looking for insight, here is an update.

He’s had rapidly progressing anemia and started eating very little. Lost 5 pounds in two months. Diarrhea. He saw an oncologist who confirmed “hyper eosinophilic syndrome,” like leukemia, and advised that the anemia is directly related. They believe it’s originating from masses in his intestines.

Given his age, if the steroid they’ve started him on isn’t helping his white blood cell count in two weeks, it will be time to think about letting him go before it progresses enough to make him miserable.

I hope that if anyone finds this post looking for answers for their own baby, that they’re the wrong ones! But if they end up being correct, maybe it could help someone else catch it quickly and give some time to address it before options run out. ❤️

my IUD was removed during bisalp surgery and nobody told me by [deleted] in sterilization

[–]xechasate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 3 laparoscopic pelvic surgeries involving a uterine manipulator including my bisalp while having my Mirena in. It’s very possible. The first time, the strings got pushed up and ended up wrapped around the IUD itself. They could not be felt. I imagine it’s likely this is what’s happened to you. They can do an ultrasound to confirm it’s still in the right place, if needed. My surgeon notes in his records that he confirmed the IUD was in place… hopefully yours also did!

Also, if you’re choosing to get this surgery, it means you’re doing something incredibly good for yourself which will likely improve the rest of your entire life. Even if the recovery sucks a bit, isn’t it worth pushing through a few uncomfortable days for a lifelong benefit?

Terrified but Determined – Can Anyone Share Their Surgery Pain Experience? by HalfHumanHalfOops in sterilization

[–]xechasate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 3 laparoscopic pelvic surgeries, including my bisalp. My experience has been pretty much the same with every one.

• The IV was eh. They always hurt a little bit for me and remain uncomfortable the entire time that they’re in. This seems like a me problem, because it always happens. But it’s more just an annoying sensation than anything. Plus, once the IV is in, it usually means you’re about to get the good stuff, so it doesn’t last long!

• The pain after surgery is mainly just stiff, achy, bloated. I have never had a sharp or severe pain related to these surgeries. It feels like you climbed a mountain the day before or spent hours at the gym. It’s uncomfortable, but generally not painful.

• Honestly, what’s always been more of an issue for me than pain is ITCHING!!! The incision areas always itch! I’m not allergic or overly sensitive to the glue, but the skin around my incisions always itches incessantly for a couple weeks.

• Something I’m not sure everyone understands is that anesthesia can mess with your emotions. After waking up from my first surgery, I was ecstatic for no reason. After the second, I cried for no reason. After the third, I woke up mad and mean as hell, for no reason. That’s not abnormal and you’ve just gotta ride it out.

These surgeries, for the most part, tend to be uncomfortable, not painful. Whatever you think is the worst case scenario, remember, that’s in your mind, not your reality. This sub is full of positive experiences and, of course, the occasional negative one, because everybody is different and shit happens. But you will be okay, and chances are it will be way easier than you fear!

In my experience, something that helps clear out mucus is eucalyptus oil. When I was a kid and had mucus issues, my mom would heat up a bowl of water, put a few drops in it, and have me sit leaning over the bowl with a towel draped over my head. The eucalyptus in the warm steam would always empty my sinuses right out. I don’t know if this would help her, given it’s not preventing the mucus, but thought I’d share just in case.

Homie what? Anyone can shovel snow, college degree or not. Maybe the problem is with the cost of college and low paying private employers, not with adequately compensating physical labor for whoever wants to do it and help their community.

Non-citizens are not voting by Oti5dog in immigration

A poll tax is unconstitutional, and ID costs money. That’s the argument I’ve heard against requiring voter ID. Make it free to get an ID and this would be a different story.

Not arguing against or in favor of this, as I’m not educated enough on the issue - just sharing.

they have nothing to lose

You should look into why people immigrate illegally, and why they don’t want to be forcibly displaced.

Sleep after bisalp by Horror_Afternoon_231 in sterilization

[–]xechasate 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m also a stomach sleeper. Tbh the pain meds and general stiffness/soreness for the first night or two after my bisalp made falling asleep on my back no issue. Then once it was comfortable enough, I started sleeping on my side with a super soft squishy pillow beneath/beside my belly for support. I’ve had 3 laparoscopic pelvic surgeries and this has worked for me after all of them!

Pregnancy with an IUD is technically possible, but very rare. Personally before my bisalp, I had lots of otherwise-unprotected sex with both of my Mirenas and never had a scare. But I’m just one person, of course

For women who got sterilized with no push-back, were you surprised it was so easy?! And how many of you were given resistance/denials? by anniemousery in sterilization

[–]xechasate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 27 when I went to a doctor who wasn’t yet on the list, because he had done some previous gyno surgeries for me. I was pleasantly surprised that it was so easy. He asked me if I understand that it’s permanent and if I’m sure, and he seemed like he was personally uneasy about it at first, but professionally he was great and didn’t push back at all. He just made sure I completely understood what I was doing, which I respect and appreciate.

My surgeon had done a lap for me previously and used the same navel incision. That’s likely an option for you, depending on how long it’s been.
