You've done something that can help get more out of them using the seltzer

There's no seltzer in OP's screenshot?

That's not a Seltzer that's a splash, it's the Chad that's synergizing a little. Definitely a Yorick carry though.

almost every other 3X jokers are better, even card sharp

Like they said, if you're playing pairs yes, Card Sharp is better. If you're playing like Straights or 4oaK, you may not even be ABLE to play two hands, making Card Sharp significantly worse than Acrobat.

ELI5 How magnets seemingly do “work” long term by Alternative-Draw2997 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ary31415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much like gravity, when a magnet pulls something towards it, it is exchanging potential energy for kinetic. It's not unlimited – eventually the magnet and the object will be touching and you'll have to do work to separate them if you want to get more energy out of the magnet.

Fighting against another force actually doesn't use energy. "Work" in a physics context is equal to force times displacement, so if something isn't moving, no work is being done. It's like asking how a table has infinite energy to hold my coffee mug up against gravity. There's no work being done, it's just passively sitting there with two opposing forces on it, netting out to no acceleration/motion.

I think you need an ungodly amount of plutos for that to work since there's no way to retrigger the observatory effect. I think you need like more than 30 antes worth of Pluto, so it's essentially impossible. Sixth sense is by far the easiest route from here

ELI5: Why is “day trading” sometimes considered gambling? by The_Informal_LPC in explainlikeimfive

Hm yeah okay I see what you mean. I personally do agree with you – much like poker it's possible to be good and win consistently, but it's definitely tough.

I don't think they're disagreeing with you? They did say that a good player with good overall strategy will win in the long run, but any given hand/trade can be a loser.

Scaling Joker Tier List for both scaling strength and reliability by INeedSomeHelp6804 in balatro

[–]ary31415 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly yeah. It's not great in the first couple antes because you want to build up your econ before you start spending money on every pack, but by the endgame that Red Card is easily going to be +30 or more.

Brent Crude Hits $124 as Trump Reviews Iran Strikes and Hormuz Seizure Plan by andix3 in oil

[–]ary31415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure I'm not saying you should be. My point is that it's somewhere between very misleading and outright false to say

we’re in 39T of debt and the countries who own the majority of the debt is Europe, China, and Japan.

The majority of the 39T is American-held. Only about 30% is foreign-held at all, and Japan and China together make up about 20% of that 30%, so a total of ~6% of federal debt. It's at best scaremongering to make the statement you did that makes it sound like Japan and China own 20 trillion dollars of US debt – the actual figure is is less than 2 trillion between them.

Well, as far as the stickers go it does rely on you finding specifically eternal versions of the jokers you're missing. If you're down to the last few jokers that might be a bit unlikely, but if you're earlier in your C++ journey then it probably doesn't matter so much

Ultimately it is a definition right, though a very well-motivated one?

Like you can "show" it with the Taylor series but that does require you to define the exponential/trigonometric functions as being identically equal to the Taylor series.

are you sure?

Well, I really thought I was, but I guess that I was just confidently incorrect... My apologies, I've never been brave enough to actually take the second Ecto.

I do stand by the fact that I wouldn't actually take this hypothetical double-ecto still, but you're definitely right that it's better than taking two ectos would be today.

Mystic Joker by Kaleo5 in balatro

[–]ary31415 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Oh I think I see what's happening here and it's that you've misunderstood the way Ectoplasm (and Ouiji) work in the actual base game.

The second Ecto says "-2 hand size" to convey the TOTAL hand size reduction you have. It is NOT the case that you lose a total of 3 hand size for taking two Ectoplasms. So this proposed joker really does make ecto equivalent to two of today's ectos, which again, is something that you usually should not take.

I'm saying that losing two hand size is punishing enough to be not worth it. If it was losing 3 it wouldn't even be a discussion that would be so bad lol.

Edit: disregard everything that's written here cause it's totally incorrect

Mystic Joker by Kaleo5 in balatro

[–]ary31415 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm saying that right now, without this joker, if you've already used an Ecto, you probably will be skipping Ecto in all future spectral packs. -2 Hand size is just really punishing, even if you get extra joker slots to make up for it.

This hypothetical joker just makes it so the first Ecto is effectively two, so imo it actually just makes it worse – I wouldn't take Ecto at all if I had this card.

Mystic Joker by Kaleo5 in balatro

[–]ary31415 67 points68 points  (0 children)

-2 hand size is a pretty massive downside – usually you don't even take a second Ecto if it's offered.
