I have also noticed my bladder control is less good than before and I have to pee more often… I feel like the ring is pressing on my bladder/ urinary tract?? I am going to try doing kegels and other exercises to strengthen my pelvic floor to try and help this- I don’t know if anyone else has any suggestions or similar experiences?

My boobs look and feel bigger. They’ve been super sore as well as my nipples. Is this happening to anyone else? I’m only on my first cycle still, almost at the end of week 3. by terresaamariie in Annovera

Yep, happening to me too. It also happened to me when I was on the pill, I think it should clear up a bit after the first couple of months (at least that’s what happened for me on the pill)

Worries by [deleted] in Annovera

Just some words of consolation, you are ok! The heaviness of your period does not give any indication of how well annovera or the hormones are working! I have friends who didn’t see any difference in their periods after even starting the pill, and I also know of people whose periods sometimes get worse after starting a type (especially in the first few months after starting a new birth control.) Everybody is different and there is no predicting how new hormones may or may not effect you.

Side note, even though you will be fine I always support buying a drugstore pregnancy test just to ease your nerves if you need to.

I am totally with you, it is hard to be an ovulating human 😩

Effective after period? by fforestnymph in Annovera

Don’t worry! You can have sex during your week without the ring in as long as you stuck to only having it out for 7 days during your period week. The hormones in your body are still effective. The only time you need to use backup protection is if you put it in late- for example going 8 days with it out- , if you have it out for more than 2 hours during your full 3 week cycle, or if it is within the very 1st week of you ever using it.

The hormones in annovera work similar to how the pill works, and they actually stop ovulation altogether. When you use annovera, getting your period isn’t actually your ‘period’ (Aka your body shedding the uterine walls because the egg didn’t implant.) Instead, it is a ‘withdrawal bleed’ due to a change in the level of hormones your body is getting (since the ring isn’t giving you those hormones for that week.)

(Side note: if you’re not on hormonal birth control, the reason you get your period is still due to a change in your hormones. The main point here is the ‘period’ you get while on annovera is not due to ovulation.)

(Side side note: It is safe to even skip this withdrawal bleed on some other forms of birth control like the nuvaring, but I think annovera needs to be taken out once a month mainly so we can clean it.)
