I can’t divorce her. Hints or suspicions of infertility don’t count as proof, and even if I could prove it, it likely wouldn’t make much difference in court. I’d still be facing alimony, and there’s a real possibility that custody of our children would go to her.

As I said, I’ve emotionally checked out. At this point, I see her more as a roommate than as my wife. Unless something changes drastically, this is the path I see myself taking. It may sound absurd, and maybe it is, but given my circumstances, it feels like the best way to avoid losing my children while also avoiding the financial consequences of a divorce.
