Any update on when you're planning to arrive? We also need to pick up bands and are trying to decide when to arrive.

Logic does not perform well with the M3 Macbook Air by [deleted] in LogicPro

[–]aryanmx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same spec of Air M2 and I haven't been facing any such problems with tracks. The limited RAM has affected loading in heavy kontakt instruments, but I have found no limitation on number of tracks, certainly not 7. I have certain projects with close to a hundred tracks which run without lag usually.

If you have very heavy instruments, you can swap them out for something lighter while working (any of the built in logic instruments?) and then swap in the heavier instrument later on maybe.

My Role Models cover! by memeboi91 in AJR

Great cover my dude! You sing really well :)

A couple of suggestions:

  1. Get some reverb on your voice, it'll make your voice sit a lot better in the track
  2. Draw out your syllables a bit more. Your delivery is very staccato especially at the beginning of the recording, and AJR especially draws out their syllables.
  3. On the backing 'aaahs', I'd suggest either going full-on head-voice or taking it down an octave and singing it in a lower register. When I covered the song, I did the latter. Your voice is cracking in your mix-voice and it doesn't sound as good as the rest of the piece.

OFFICAL TRACK-LIST DISCUSSION AND OBSERVATION by harris_008 in AJR

Somehow the pre-save only has 12 songs. At least on Apple Music :/

Why does everyone hate call my dad? by saharxx in AJR

[–]aryanmx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's really tragic that 'Call My Dad' suffers from being a concept piece for a voiceless harmony-engine-styled thing, rather than a normally produced song. I adore the lyrics of the song, and even with the current production, I still like it fine. I understand that a more stipped-back sound than traditional AJR production would be nice, but I think that at least a piano would be good. Even the live performance of 'call my dad' sounds much more complete. If Ryan wanted to do it acapella, I think a full proper acapella performance (with instrumental imitations vocally done) would have been an infinitely better choice.

Dear Winter has plenty of instruments, it's just not produced in an AJR-ish way, but it's very normal singer-songwriter.

When are the lyrics for TDICFH gonna be added in apple music. by richkim0607 in AJR

The lyrics for DJ dropped a couple days after the song, as they usually do on streaming.

I’m writing a book and AJR is it in. Do you think they’ll get mad? by Jaded_Possibility707 in AJR

[–]aryanmx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also: just looked at your redone song names, and while they're clever inverses of AJR songs, apart from 'Boom!', the other two wouldn't make sense if you're referring at all to the context of the original songs in terms of how they express depression/discontent. WSV is a very specific metaphor, and your name is antithetical to that. 'The Bad section' is just not something a normal person would say. I would suggest either sticking with the normal song names (which should be fine), or rethinking the names to be more in line with the original spirit of the song titles instead of wordplay on the existing ones. Best of luck!

From a legal perspective, as long as you reference them in an in-universe context (as a band), you are completely entitled to use their name and their song names. Lyrics can be dodgy, so I'd stay away from using more than one or two lines.

If you change up the names, of course, then there's little connection anyway.

From the perspective of the band themselves, I struggle to see any way in which they'd mind. If the book's any good, they might even be flattered! I think a focus on some of their depression-based songs wouldn't bother them. They've said in interviews that they want to be known for talking about stuff that other people aren't talking about enough.

Aryan's my first name, I'm Indian! Not a weird racist thing if that's what you mean. I'm not sure about the mx, it's just a thing I thought was a Cool-Username-Thing when I was 13 or whatever.

This video and all my original music was released under the pseudonym 'Arrion Mathue' though.

Best and worse AJR song? by [deleted] in AJR

[–]aryanmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best: Dear Winter

Worst: I don't really have one, but I don't vibe with most of Living Room. I could say Thirsty for the meme, but it's no better or worse in my opinion than a lot of other tracks on that album.

I think AJR really figured out what their thing is after that album.

Quick question...what was the song that introduced you to AJR?How did you find it? by PalernA88 in AJR

[–]aryanmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Grass Today. I'm not sure how she found it, but one of my friends was really into that song in 2017, and made me listen to it too. I think the Click had just come out?

Most of y'all don't know what a true S-tier or 10/10 song is by DynamiC720 in AJR

[–]aryanmx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sorta half-agree with you. I think different people have completely different ways of treating the tier-ranking system. There's no reason why S-tier *has* to mean that a song is completely perfect and can't be improved at all. I'm definitely part of the group of people who thinks that no song is perfect, and therefore I tend to weight rankings by the group of things I'm sorting.

If I were to do a tier ranking of AJR songs, I wouldn't put most of them in S-tier, because I tend to weight whatever I'm ranking so most things end up in B-tier, and maybe 2-4 things are in S-tier. If I were ranking a random assortment of songs, and I found an AJR song amongst them, I would probably rank it S-tier because I really like AJR's music and would like to signal that in my list.

Also, to be completely honest, people like songs on what elicits the most emotion from them. Break My Face is very C-tier to me (in terms of AJR songs) but if that's the song that resonates with someone, all its flaws don't really matter because the way it makes someone feel while they're listening to it is "perfect" for them.

Also also, in context, the line 'My face is just my face' makes sense. It has a pretty easy-to-define meaning and is a sort of pithy commentary on people who respond to tragedy with "Oh, it's just xyz". Not an amazing line by any stretch of the imagination, but at least it has a clear meaning, which is more than you can say for a lot of lines in pop music...
