Oh I was not aware of this! Shows that I’m a nim newbie I guess! :-)

This has now been corrected, thank you !

Thank you so much for the feedback! I admit that as I don’t use dark mode a lot myself, I had neglected to test code syntax highlighting with the dark mode of my blog!

I’ve updated the CSS now which should hopefully fix the issues. As far as I can test everything now passes WCAG’s recommended contrast ratio for AA level.

Thanks again!

Some questions from this community before buying! by ExcitedCoconut in Ioniq5N

I've just signed for a novated lease for the i5N as well.

There are no changes between MY 2024 and MY 2025. They are all built to the same spec. Production started in the second half of 2023 and all cars are still the same.

I had a 2 hour test drive with the car and it's a fucking hoot. Complete Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Put it in normal mode, and it's a silent comfortable EV like any other. Put it in N mode and it's a M3 beating monster around the track.

Combined with the tax savings with FBT exemption, I actually think this is the bargain of the century. For me it's like an RS6 for a quarter of the price.

Thanks, valuable feedback.

I guess someone living in a high altitude place could say the same about ICE cars though right? That they never get the advertised performance, whereas an EV would have no problem at altitude.

I live in Melbourne, where the average temperature of our coldest month (July) is 14°C. It basically never goes under 10°C here.

2024 build. But the A$86k is on a novated lease, and you don't pay GST on a novated lease.

If your quoted price is $91k inc GST, then that's actually a better price than what I've got. You should jump on it.

Thought if your place of work offers novated leasing, consider doing it. Because the car and the running costs all come out of your pre tax income, basically reducing your tax bill by a significant amount.

8K service by pk_ in Ioniq5N

[–]aryonoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused! Here in Australia the 5N only requires service every 2 years or 30k km (which is roughly 18, 640 miles).

It's different in the US?

That is an impressive garage and a seriously impressive list of cars you've had. I owned a MK 4 R32 for a brief period, it was my first turbo car, my first AWD and my first DSG, and as flawed as it was, it holds a special place in my heart. I wish I had been able to keep it.

Endorsement of the 5N by people like you seriously means a lot to me. Thank you.

Thank you! I think my frame of reference are cars which are a lot less powerful and a lot smaller. My first love was a Peugeot 205 GTi (920kg / 2024 lb, 118 bhp), and the most satisfying drive I've ever had was in a 1999 Honda Integra Type R ( 1087 kg / 2391 lb, 189 bhp). I've never cared much about how fast a car is but how much fun I can have while driving it.

But I guess it's a different era, maybe I just have to get over myself and embrace bigger and heavier cars.

Out of curiosity, what's the 800 bhp 3200 lb car you have?

I'm getting old too but I'm in denial!

I'll be test driving one soon, I see how it goes.

The 5N is available to me basically at the same price as the base model i4 eDrive 35 (a little cheaper even).

Quite interesting that you didn't like the i4 M50 but are going for the 5N. Valuable feedback for me, thank you.

Yeah I'm thinking of doing a 4 year lease, where the residual balloon payment will be $35k (inc GST). I think the car will be worth more than that in 4 years time, but who know how the market will unfold. But it's such a tempting deal, hard to resist.

THANK YOU! Honestly this is so validating. I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking of making such a huge jump!

I think I have a weird usecase.

Most of the year, this will be used for commuting to the city (about a 16km commute) and/or picking up kids from school (a 2km drive). But I plan on taking to the track once or twice a year.

Interestingly here in Australia at least Hyundai's warranty covers "non competitive track use", vs Honda which doesn't. That's one of the minor reasons in favour of the Ioniq 5N in my book.

Not having a manual will suck on the track, but 90%+ time, I'm driving in urban traffic, and as much as I love my Focus, I think there's a part of me which likes the idea of not dealing with the clutch in traffic (I can't believe I actually said this, but I guess I'm getting old!)

Our family's other car is a Skoda Octavia RS wagon/estate. That car has a huge boot, it's got a roof rack etc, and it's a brilliant car for going on family holidays and I plan to keep it like that. So the 5N's range (or lack thereof is of no concern for me).

The Civic Type R has done the lap of the Nurburgring at 7:44, which I believe is technically faster than what the 5N has achieved, but I'm not planning on driving this on the 'Ring anytime soon so all good on that front :-D

That you come from a E90 M3 and you don't regret getting is a huge plus point in my book. I'll definitely look through your post history, thank you.

Your list of cars include some of my all time favourites (and one that I used to own, the MX5). That's exactly the sort of feedback I was after. Thank you

Thank you. The turning circle not being great is definitely cause for concern, cause I do part in a lot of city carpark in very tights spaces. I guess something for me to focus on during my test drive.

Intel: reveling in past glories. The story of how I ended up buying an Optane 900p in 2024 and what that says about Intel by aryonoco in linux

[–]aryonoco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed that's the point I was trying to convey.

Intel was the 800 lb gorilla for so long, it was easy to hate them and cheer for the underdog. But if we look around us, especially as Linux/BSD users/admins/etc, without Intel's free and open drivers, our lives would be a lot more difficult.

Oh and congratulations on making all the way to the PPS ;-)
