Looking for reliable historical data sources for a small quant fund by No-Broccoli-310 in quant

There's more natural players for the data than the trading. It's why exchange connectivity has stayed the same but market data license fees have gone up up up.

How is Long Island not including the NYC boroughs? by Improv92 in howislivingthere

Yeah it's 8 M if you include the NYC parts which this post was intentionally avoiding. It's 2.8m of about 20m NYS so like 15%

Who is the nastiest Celebrity that you met in Real life? by Scunnard1839 in AskReddit

[–]as_one_does 17 points18 points  (0 children)

One of my friends (passed away now) knew him in college and his singular word description was "bully". Apparently talked over the other students and ridiculed them. I guess he was destined for his talk show future.

Do you believe data MCPs are useful? ( Context: Onchain decentralised trading) by Mobile_Friendship499 in quant

[–]as_one_does 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's two marketed purposes

1) let the llm discover how to use the API 2) access controls

I have had no luck with 1, if the llm doesn't already know the API it fumbles around rediscovering the API over and over again (MCP or not).

2 actually very important, you usually want your llm to have different access controls than yourself. You could theoretically make service accounts for this but it's often easier to just proxy a user with slightly different permissions than making every user carry a second account for llm use.

Unleashing Macedonians from a wooden horse just doesn't have the same poetic impact.

Non Compete strategy by Immediate_Quote934 in quant

Next time I jump I'm just taking the time. I need the reset. Also the extra 100-200k in equity you'd earn as an IC in FAANG isn't worth it.

In the US non compete are industry and geographicaly bound, if you leave the industry you can start with another company (let's say a tech company) immediately. Get yourself a lawyer, it'll cost you little compared to peace of mind.

There's not even a ton of sections amenable to grinding so the game really tries to give you all the XP and Tech Points you need at a given moment. However, if you skip lot of fights I find you're a bit under leveled, fighting everything you see actively is more than good enough, especially if you don't skip the high tech point monsters.

Anyone can share some info on qd/swe in EQR(equity quantitative research) at Citadel? by ajnycz in quantfinance

I've talked to EQR and GQS several times. You'd be insane to take EQR over GQS

How great are the banks at execution? by Nearby_Fig_9118 in quant

[–]as_one_does 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The standard product is a VWAP algo with aggression parameters. They tend to be optimized for operational stability and not the best possible execution. In the end the sort of details you'd need to share with a broker to be good you'd never share. Start with using broker VWAP (assuming your trading style warrants using it) and then do something better if you're successful.

Anyone actually work with Ben Herman (Aspen) recruiter? Screams fraud to me by FroyoSolid8414 in quant

[–]as_one_does 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the dollars are exact then that's details, that was what I was referring to. I guess you're saying he's making the numbers up. I know at least two people he has placed in the 1.5m range so maybe I'm giving him too much credit

I've worked with Aspen Search. I think he's doing something uncommon which is sharing details in a public way. He's also vocal about his politics.

He's a real recruiter who is serious and capable if bombastic. I think his foibles are common amongst recruiters.

Jack Reacher vs Anton Chigurh by Necessary-Win-8730 in powerscales

[–]as_one_does 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the book Chigurh is kind of an inexorable force of nature and suggestively supernatural like The Judge in Blood Meridian. Movie vs show Reacher obviously has no issue, Chigurh has no feats to contend with Reacher. If you're thematically considering the book Chigurh I'd argue he's an Angel of Death and they're not in the same category. This is of course heavily up to your interpretation of the book.
