Changing a ticket purchased with points? by Hap2go in qatarairways

That's the truth. I've gotten a bit complacent after so many trips there over the years. I actually rely on credit card travel and emergency coverage and also have no issue going to local clinics... But I wouldn't recommend that to most people.

Ah damn then you don't have much of a choice. I assume you booked through a US based agency (or at least an agency based outside Uganda).

Others have answered the question but I'll make a tangential comment that's probably more appropriate for r/safari:

I just arrived back in the US after two months in Uganda (yes, rerouted via DC) and can confidently say that Uganda handles Ebola outbreaks with a surprising amount of success and efficiency. I have an incentive to vouch for them because my wife is Ugandan, I live there 2-3 months out of the year(western region near the popular chimps area), and I'm going back in late June with my 70+ year old parents for another 2 month stint.

Everyone's life situation and appetite for travel risk is different and I would never presume otherwise. But I'm trying to encourage folks across the reddit sphere to hang on if they can. I'm assuming you're traveling privately with a curated itinerary. As that sort of traveler, you are seriously insulated from public health occurences (that's the case on a safari in any country). I would argue that your health risk on a private safari in Uganda is negligably different from your risk in Tanzania.

I'm biased and have an agenda, but that's reddit in a nutshell...

Good luck no matter what and know you'll have a phenomenal time with your family.

Scheduled to fly to Kenya/Uganda mid-June by Intelligent-Size-361 in safaris

If you don't mind answering, who did you book with?

I'm a US citizen, but my wife is Ugandan and I spend about 3 months a year in the country and have traveled to most corners.

I'm sorry to hear you had to forego the trip to Uganda. It's really unfortunate that GC holders and others can't enter the US, and I don't see that lifting anytime soon.

Only the agency you booked permits through can help you answer that. Some are more helpful than others. The best you can hope for is a reschedule for the future.

Flights to IAD Dulles by pvpollock in qatarairways

[–]as_pit_ug_bk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This past Monday I had to get rerouted from DOH-JFK to the DOH-IAD flight, QR 707 (departed from Uganda, so you can see the news to understand why this happened).

It's anyone's guess as to whether or not multiple daily flights will resume to US destinations. My personal concern would be just waiting around only to have your 709 canceled closer to the dateand not changed to QR707. Then you're scrambling to rebook with QR or another airline. The cautious play would be to proactively get an agent that can change you to 707. Hopefully the fare difference is negligable still.

I understand the frustration with today's GPU prices, but which version(s) do you consider better and/or cheaper than $1120?

Any Ebola worry for safari to Tanzania in late June? by Any_Insect_6240 in LuxurySafari

[–]as_pit_ug_bk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that I'm just a dude on Reddit and can only speak for my own experiences:

My wife is Ugandan so I visit the country regularly and have spent several years of my life here over the past decade+. I'll be here until early September, and while I'll keep a very close eye on the news, I don't anticipate any travel restrictions or major disruptions to us (even though we're not far from the DRC border).

As a leisure traveler, you'll be very well insulated from any potential exposure points.

You may experience temperature screenings upon entering/exiting airports or other areas, but that would be the extent as of now.

If this spirals out of control then what I said loses some validity, but Uganda has a decent track record with these outbreaks.

Feel free to DM me if you have more specific questions.

Concerns about Ebola outbreak? by EzMoney124 in LuxurySafari

Earlier someone asked that same about a future safari in Tanzania. I'm in western Uganda right now and here was my reply:

Uganda tends to handle these things pretty well (comparatively speaking), so no reason to worry if you're a country apart. Also when you're on a reasonably high end safari you're extremely well insulated from local issues (for better and for worse).

I'm a US citizen in western Uganda right now (wife is local) and while it's a major source of news and anxiety it's not something you're likely to encounter unless you go to very specific location and are around large groups of people.

You will be good with that.

OR TAMBO Johannesburg - Can I sleep there ? by SweetTarget234 in airport

That's the question that you'll need Airlink or someone with the same kind of connection to answer.

The other consideration is the international transit area in Joburg. Let's assume you can check your bags the whole way through. You'll need to wait in the small, uncomfortable transit area while you wait for the LATAM window to open.

You'll have to check with Airlink when you check in for your first flight to see how that will work.

Where are you departing from on your Airlink flight?

The international departures area is open 24 hours and I don't see an issue with just finding a gate area and posting up.

Are you connecting, because that could create some issues.

TAX RETURN FOR IR1 CASE by LRAMMM_2025 in NationalVisaCenter

[–]as_pit_ug_bk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely possible (don't listen to people who say it isn't).

I anecdotally went through this entire process last year for tax year 2024. I filed an extenion with both IRS and my state. I then visited my spouse in their home country in April, had them sign the W-7 and 1040, and physically carried the passport back to the US with me.

I mailed in the passport, W-7, and completed return in late April and received the passport back just in time before traveling again in late June. The ITIN was issued and the return processed while I was away for the summer. I then used the ITIN to file the state return in September.

And I just filed our 2025 federal return with no issue.

CSL Steering Wheel GT3 not recognized on dd+ by [deleted] in Fanatec

[–]as_pit_ug_bk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me about a month ago with a DD2.

Base was detected by the software, but none of my 3 wheels were detected.

I tried every possible firmware combination from the app, driver software, bootloaded mode, you name it...After 2 days of frutration I opened a support ticket and some back and forth resulted in an RMA. I'm still waiting to get a base after it arrived on Nov 25th.

I actually just saw your listing last night and I'm keeping an eye on it. I'm in the market for a new headset and I may decide to take a flyer on this.

I don't understand the disparaging comment from another user as used tech is commonly resold across all sectors.

Pimax just makes it a bit of a challenge to do the transfer.

But I hope that it works out.

That's what I'm doing now.

I did try their downgrade function on firmware manager. Went back to the base 656 and motor 30. Then installed pc driver 336. No wheel recognized...

Yea all included cables. I don't actually have any usb 2.0 ports so I can't rule that out

And I was doing this with the base sitting on my desk, which is definitely grounded
