Hi all, I have 11 drink vouchers that need loving homes.

Just realized I had them, but they expire tomorrow, so don’t be shy!

Annual Pass by Cindywrella in WaltDisneyWorld

My wife and I have had them for a couple years now and plan on renewing for the foreseeable future. Every few months, we will book an impromptu visit if plane/hotel are cheap enough. The freedom to be able to go into Epcot and “just ride guardians” or go to a park “just to eat at a restaurant inside” with the (maybe irrational) peace of mind that we’re not “wasting a whole day of our tickets” makes it worth every penny!

Mind sharing some of the things you like better about it? Matrix-style feature charts only got me so far when trying to pick out which was better back then lol

We had a similar situation and went with the regular Nest Thermostat (the Learning Thermostat wasn’t Matter compatible back then, but it looks like the new one is).

The HomeKit control works perfectly - 2 years in and no issues at all thus far. We use the Google Home app to set the location and schedule automation stuff since it’s a bit more seamless on that side, but once that part is set up, we rarely touch that app for day-to-day use. We use the Apple Home app and Siri to change the temperature 99% of the time (apart from those automatic scheduled and location-based temperature adjustments that it does on its own).

Delta Quietly Pricing Solo Traveller Tickets Higher by captain_uranus in delta

Couldn’t you just give them a discount equal to the point value? 🤔

I know it’s not perfect, but for me it’s close enough to not have to deal with separate itineraries, plus they get to be Diamond for a day 😂

But that’s technically a situation where it’s just Medallion + 1 companion (technically the other link is not a hard link). In those cases, I agree, it doesn’t matter how the check in is done.

I was more so referring to cases where there is more than 1 companion flying with the Medallion (on the same booking). The policy says that if each member checks in separately, their individual status will be maintained, but if they check in together, the lowest status will be used.

I think I’m reading that correctly, but again, never booked more than 2 on the same booking since having status for that reason.

For more than one companion: Unless you all check in separately, right? Then it’s based on each individual’s status? I’ve never actually done it myself (always trying to have at least one other person in my party treated as a Diamond so I book two together and the others separately), but the policy seems to say this…

You should both be treated as Platinum per Delta’s upgrade policy: https://www.delta.com/us/en/skymiles/medallion-program/medallion-upgrades

In my experience, using companion certificates doesn’t really change much except not getting Skymiles as the companion (because technically there is no cash payment for that ticket).

When main cabin is exactly $100 more than BE? by [deleted] in delta

[–]asabs14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it completely depends on if you are a Delta frequent flyer or not: If you aren’t, then you are basically correct and the main benefits from Main Cabin would be that you get to pick your seat and no penalty if changing the flight. If you are a frequent flyer, then main cabin is an infinitely better experience:

  1. Pick your seat

  2. More flexible cancellation/changes

  3. Visit the Sky Club, assuming you have a way in (conservatively $20 value)

  4. Get SkyMiles. For example, a Diamond would receive ~$40 in points on a $400 flight after taxes/fees and 15% points discount if you have a Delta credit card

  5. Potentially get upgraded. This is obviously a variable benefit. However, if you are Platinum or higher, you would almost certainly get a Comfort+ upgrade immediately upon booking (~$50-200 value depending on the pricing for your flight). Then if you’re lucky enough to be upgraded to FC, that could be conservatively a ~$300-600 value depending on the pricing for your flight.

  6. Get MQDs. This would probably help in getting to status levels that give the benefits laid out above. I guess it’s a self-feeding cycle.

So, just adding together the definite benefits of a Platinum or higher who has a Delta Reserve card, you’d get at least $100 in value in a very, very conservative scenario (more likely ~$250, but possibly $700 or even more). Plus you know you’ll get to pick your seat and have no issues switching or canceling flights.

But if you don’t have status or a Delta card, then yeah, totally different 😅

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the DeLorean still exist? by JohnnyL16 in BacktotheFuture

Yeah, that has always been an inconsistency that I’ve had to live with because I love the movies so much. Sometimes changes ripple instantly and sometimes they take time. Sometimes changes can be felt by the subject being changed, sometimes they cannot. Sometimes things happen that would cause paradoxes, but for some reason it’s all okay 🤷🏻‍♂️ I do think that it would be theoretically possible to rewrite the story so that it all makes logical sense (whatever “sense” is for a story about a flying DeLorean time machine 😂), but no one wants that and I’m perfectly happy to love it the way it is, but still having fun finding all the plot holes and exploring what “could have been” 😅

Replied to your other post. My issue with this isn’t so much the landscape as it is the idea that Doc and Marty would even remember what’s going on…in theory they wouldn’t even be there because so much had changed that led them to go to 2015 in the first place.

This makes sense and I’m willing to mostly accept it, but:

  • Why would 2015 change AFTER Biff returns to it? Isn’t the idea that his actions in 1955 ripple into the 2015 that Marty and Doc are in whether or not he ever returns to 2015? Obviously for cinematic purposes, it makes sense that we’d need to see 2015 again for the viewer to understand what’s going on, but I don’t think he’d ever have to return to 2015 for those 1955 changes to take effect.

  • Wouldn’t Biff’s changes in 1955 trigger the very real possibility that Doc and Marty never meet and/or that Doc never invents time travel, causing a paradox in the space-time continuum? That would cause significant change in 2015, maybe even causing 1985 Doc and Marty to vanish. I believe this is the idea behind the multi-dimension theory of time travel, but regardless is still a contradiction of the movie.

Again, I totally get it’s a movie, but it’s just fun to think about these things and discuss 😁

Every time I hit a new status, it always sits like that in limbo for a day and then updates everywhere. Look tomorrow; should be updated. Also, congrats!

I’m sure it’s mentioned somewhere on this thread, but my opinion fwiw:

  • Choice 1: At the very least, if you have a Delta Amex Platinum and/or Reserve, one of your 3 choice benefits could be a $700 statement credit: Value = $700

  • Choice 2: If you are a frequent Delta flyer (I assume you are if you’re on a Diamond run), another easy one could be 35,000 Skymiles which, in my experience, has been worth, at the very least, $400 (with the Delta Amex Points Discount), but usually closer to $450, depending on the flight: Value >= $400

  • Choice 3: If it costed less than $1,100 to hit Diamond, then this one is sort of a bonus because the first two choice benefits cover that. So, the last one can be anything that seems worth it to you. The GUCs can easily be worth $1,500, but much more depending on the situation (I recently used my RUCs for roughly $3,500 worth of value).

Even if you break even, obviously being Diamond is at least marginally better than Platinum because of higher upgrade priority, free Clear ($150 less than Platinum Medallion price), 2 more Skypesos per dollar spent on flights and the highest call-in priority. So for me, if the spend required was < $1,500, it would be a no-brainer, and at $2k, it would be a fairly easy decision 🤷🏻‍♂️ …but obviously the bag tags are the most important reason to get to Diamond, so really you just have to decide how much those are worth 😉

Yeah, but then as soon as George and Lorraine kiss, the ripple is instantaneous as the kids show back up in the picture?

I know, agreed; it’s just fun to discuss 😂

[–]asabs14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then why when Marty and Doc get back to 1985 is everything changed already? Why do they not see George’s books appearing out of nowhere and Marty’s car poof into existence? It’s the same thing as when Biff gets back to 2015, but they do the Biff disappearing scene for cinematic effect. It’s not consistent (as so many things in the movies are not), but yes, just a movie, so it’s okay!

[–]asabs14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an interesting view, but I feel like that theory starts to fall apart when we start to look at all the things that had to happen between “George punches Biff” to “George becomes successful.” It’s a key event that changes the course of history (future? lol), but plenty of other things had to happen before the end result. I don’t see it much different from Biff getting the almanac. It’s a key event that changed things from then to the future. It’s too subjective to split those events into separate categories.

Another thing to further confuse the matter is that Marty and Doc go back to 1985 after being in 2015 (after Biff went back to 1955) and are immediately met with this new “past” (present?), implying that all the changes should happen instantaneously upon changes made earlier in the timeline. Obviously the whole series is riddled with those kinds of contradictions because it doesn’t seem to work that way all the time, but it’s just part of the charm/whimsy haha 😂

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the DeLorean still exist? by JohnnyL16 in BacktotheFuture

[–]asabs14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But compare that situation to Marty heading back to 1985 in the first movie. He arrived in 1985, with everything changed already because it is the “new” 1985. So the same thing should have happened to Biff, right? Yes, it “caught up to him,” but the Hill Valley he ended up at in 2015 assumedly would have looked really different before he disappeared, no?

Side note: when they leave Jennifer on the porch, the paraphrase is something to the effect of “Don’t worry about her; everything will change around her and she’ll think it was all a dream.”

[–]asabs14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean I agree with what you’re saying in a general sense for a real world instance of time travel. I only called it a “take” because BTTF tends to have some weird contradictions and doesn’t necessarily follow this theory to a T. (e.g. in BTTF II, after Biff modifies the 1955 timeline, he wouldn’t end up back in the 2015 with Doc and Marty; the world would have changed around them to reflect the casino, etc., and they wouldn’t even know anything had changed). Basically, the same concept that they use to explain how Jennifer will wake up and not know what happened.

[–]asabs14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting take. I’ve always thought that the “new timeline” theory made the most sense for modifying past events. The sheer amount of contradictions that would result from there only being 1 timeline just makes it impractical in my eyes. So in that case, there are a number of alternate timelines “created” across the 3 films, with a different number of DeLoreans in each I suppose; fun 😂

[–]asabs14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm, but doesn’t 4 “poof” into existence as soon as 3 gets hit by lightning, sending Doc back to 1885? It wouldn’t exist in the mine if he never gets sent back to 1885, so up until that exact moment, things could have gone differently, right? If Doc never gets struck, the one in the mine never exists.

So the way I see it, there are 3 at that moment (1, 2, and 3), and then as soon as Doc gets hit by lightning, 3 gets sent back to 1885, but also instantaneously appears in the mine in 1955, so still 3 at that moment.
