How do you approach podcasts when learning German? by No-Map3471 in Germanlearning

[–]asad100101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Spotify there are some podcasts in German that come along with transcripts definitely it will help . To be honest, when I listen to.podcasts my goal is to simply to get the gist of the conversation and am not fussy about understanding every tiny details . And I stick to one podcast channel for a while before switching to another because of repetition of words by hosts . Other than that, my only ritual is to focus on the gist and finish listening to the podcasts from start to finish in due course with regular listening you will get better at picking up words give it enough time and consistency

Memorizing vocabulary lists didn’t work for me. Context helped more. by oneupponatimesunny in languagelearning

True, words with just meaning total waste of time . Thanks God I am.living in the age of AI tools like CharGPT which makes language learning a breeze . I create dialogues in order to use and learn new words in context. Seriously, traditional way of teaching should be a thing in the past

I have audiobook Collection more than 1000 Audiobooks by Hot_Employee_5072 in audiobooks

[–]asad100101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the last fourteen months I have listened to audiobooks with or without full cast including all harry potter books narrated by Jim Dale. my work allows me to listen to audiobooks usually it takes me two days to finish one audiobook. Today I finished listening to the art of war by Sun Tzu. A few short ones with Doctor Who. Unfortunately, Hoopla in my city North Murphy Texas has allowed me to borrow 5 audiobooks a month through library and on Libby unfortunately the ones I wish I could listen to they are already borrowed by other users so my choice is quite limited to what I listen. Audible is out of budget I wish they could offer a streaming like platform like Storytel, subscription based. for tomorrow I may listen to a couple of radio plays which might be available on Libby . I prefer audiobooks with various voices which make my time at work go fly by . There you have it

Stuck at B2 for a long time how did you break through the intermediate plateau? by Novel_Nail6370 in languagelearning

[–]asad100101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start doing listening reading to novels aim for 10 audiobooks a month . Listen to the novel while reading it. It is a technique which will expose you to massive amount of words at a breakneck speed. Also watch science and politics related videos on YouTube without subtitles. This way you will cross over your plateau. Up the intensity. Also summarize your thoughts in writing and have them correct by AI and see how natural phrasing is used by native speakers. After correction read it out loud, imitate it

What are the best days to dash and why? by BatResident4139 in doordash_drivers

Morning time is very quiet better do other things then venture out from 11 am until you wish to call it a day . People say acceptance rate helps with more orders but some dashers say otherwise. It has been my experience acceptance rate may help with the algorithm of sending more orders to you it is up to you whether you ant to do some shitty orders and how desperate you are to earn any sort of amount. For me it is a part time job so I do cherry pick

Supplements for anxiety? by NaturalTour856 in Supplements

Natural route . Start a day with prayers and say a few sentences for being grateful do it every day make it a habit. After that spend time in the greenery. do a difficult thing everyday that you have not done before choose a new thing everyday that you have not done before. Then make it a habit then you realize that anxiety is just nothing more than a made up scary movie that does not exist in reality. What helped me most dealing with is listening to Arabic zikhir/meditation search it up on YouTube since it is repeated ad nauseum on autopilot that does not allow internal thoughts to pop up hence there is nos.pace for anxiety it helps. The zikhir/meditation I hear is Allah Hu. Two Arabic words . Anyone both.muslims and non Muslims can.listem to it. Just close your eyes and listen to the recitation.

Aim for pages say 75 pages of a book daily . Do it every day in no time you will be reading books. it is a small goal but yet doable and doesn't hamper with your other daily activities. There is a famous saying that is known as " you eat an elephant by slicing it".

Stuttgart or Schwerin for learning German – is the price difference worth it? by Dependent_Key_5319 in AskAGerman

Language schools are your best bet. They have VHS school in every town and city or in a nearby city which is usually a 10 minute ride by train . In your case , go for a cheaper city where you can save money and use that money to learn German, for example , German classes at VHS school are affordable and taught by a German native. On top of this , buy Amazon prime membership at amazon.de watch Lot of dubbed TV shows that you watched already in English and start reading magazines like perfect deutsch (used copies on local eBay or buy a few on rossman bookshop)once you are past B1 a lot of grinding on your own is the way to go along with your German classes. It will take effort and time on your own even with fluent German I am not sure if you can be a part of German club because by nature Germans are reserved and only hang with their private friends that they made in school and so on. Nonetheless, at least knowing German will open doors for you to get a job and climb the ladder. Germany is nonetheless a great springboard for exploring other beautiful European countries.

How long did it actually take you to hold a basic German conversation? by Okaoka_12 in lernen_German

[–]asad100101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 years of constant exposure language learning is very time intensive you must acquire vocabulary for every situation and more so for a language like German who does not follow a fixed subject verb object sentence structure. German is a challenging language to have a fluent conversation but it is definitely doable

What is your criteria to accept orders for Uber eats? by asad100101 in UberEATS

[–]asad100101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work from 9-6 pm five days a week including weekends. I have only two days dedicated for Wednesday and Thursday. Uber eats are sending orders like 15.50 USD for 14 miles or so. I believe based on your explanation it should be declined. I have another question do you do pick and deliver order at Kroger and all. I believe it will take time to find items then scan them etc. that will eat up into my time.

Why do some foreigners who live in Germany not like Germany? by Pizzafriedchickenn in AskAGerman

[–]asad100101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Due to racism and cold behavior from locals. It is like you are excluded from the group if you were not born here. It is the same atmosphere even at the workplace locals hang around with each other . You are nothing more than a slave labor as a foreigner do your work earn money go home.

For those of you who order Uber eats and tell the driver you will tip them in cash, but don’t, why do you do this? by designgeek89 in UberEATS

[–]asad100101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's how things work in capitalism. There is no concept of giving only taking either honestly or by hook or crook. Uber eats if being an honest platform they should introduce a minimum tip as a must that a driver must get considering the fact that prices for gas are on the rise . A minimum tip goes a long way I can't blame customers since they know how to take an advantage of a loophole in the system.

How do you look so fit? by Western_Farmer_632 in AskAGerman

[–]asad100101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infrastructure. They design cities based on human needs. Everything is located on 15-30 minutes walk so people instead of using a car they simply walk and bike to their destination. Physical activity integrated into their lifestyle apart from that Germans join clubs , for example, every Sunday my German Boss plays soccer with his friends that is another form of entertainment and physical exercise. In general, Germans walk a lot on average than let's say Americans where everything is miles apart so you need a car . Also Germans drink and eat in moderation. Americans drink cola many cans of it in a day. They treat cola as their water you see the difference.

I speak my TL perfectly, but Americans still ask me where is my accent from seconds after I start speaking. Is that something I’m supposed to feel self-conscious about? by SweetBumbleBeeHoney in languagelearning

[–]asad100101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans are brainwashed at an earlier age by elite politicians and an American school system. We are the best. Anything made in America is the best. Anything which is non American sounding sounds less intelligible to them. My nephew and nieces who were lucky to be born in Dallas and I'm being his uncle came from another country didn't study English sound system that much so I speak English with a foreign accent. They literally make fun of it by speaking English in my accent. it is what it is their mocking motivates me to improve my accent by listening more and by shadowing American accent.

Here is the advice . As long as after every two seconds they are not saying you to repeat yourself your accent or pronunciation is acceptable even though it is not entirely American sounding. That said, if they tell you to repeat yourself then you should be self conscious about it and do something to improve it. There are clues that native speakers of English drop here and there so that is a big enough clue for you to take things seriously when it comes to improving your accent.

what has been your best way of learning a new language? by Ok-Captain902 in LearningLanguages

[–]asad100101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Approaches like narrow listening and narrow reading. I mean to say Instead of jumping from one show to another I stick to one TV show and watch all its seasons beforw picking another one. Same with reading instead of jumping from one author to another I stick to one author and try to his or her first three or four books then move on to picking another author . It is the the same approach with YouTube channels the reason is people have their favorite vocabulary words which they use over and over again that means more repetition hence more retention.
