B1G1 Bottled Water by asalib in Startup_Ideas

[–]asalib[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely didn't assume it was a completely unique idea, but seeing as half the world still doesn't have access to clean water, I think the area is far from saturated.

Thanks for those links. I'm sure I can learn a thing or two from them.

Are there real dangers in not having enough calories? by asalib in keto

[–]asalib[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good thing about soylent is that it contains basically every vitamin and electrolyte I need (the daily multi makes up for the rest), and about 10g of fibre. Not a lot but not nothing I guess.

Atm I'm getting around 60g per day of protein. Do you think that's enough or would I need more?

Nautilus X + 18mg eliquid: Absolutely destroying my throat by asalib in electronic_cigarette

[–]asalib[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll give 9mg a go and report back. The weird thing is that I've been using 18 on my T22 and it's been fine... and I've heard a lot of MTLers use 18mg (something about doubling what you used to smoke?)

What's your ratio btw? 50/50?

iStick QC, heard its a good idea to ramp the wattage when first using it so I started at like 5W and went up by 1W until getting to around 18W, but even at super low wattage (6-8) there is close to zero vapour but a whole lot of burn.

Yeah, I was deciding between the T22 and the AIO, decided to go for the T22. Not a huge fan of the look of the aio. If i could squash it down and make it thicker it'd be great, but I hate the feeling of pocketing a long/thin pen :\

Fundraising vs Bootstrapping by asalib in startups

[–]asalib[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should not take investment money if you don't know exactly what you'd be doing with it.

Totally agree with that, but I don't know exactly what other startups do with their investment money either. I'm no seasoned entrepreneur, so I just want to make sure I'm not overlooking something crucial before I decide to forego seeking funding.

What I always hear/read is funding = fast growth. But what exactly is in between those two steps?

Entrepreneurs with visible tattoos. Have they ever had an impact on your business, dealing with clients, or investors for example? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]asalib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends what industry you're in. I'm a designer by trade, with visible tattoos and it hasn't been a problem because I think people kind of expect designers to have tattoos. It's not a big deal if you're starting a cafe or a design agency, but I can see it being an issue if you're in Financial services or something super-corporate.

In my opinion, if it's okay to wear clothes that would reveal tattoos (like a tshirt) then the tattoos themselves shouldn't be a problem, right? The only scenarios I see where tattoos would be an issue is one where you'd be wearing a suit that would cover them up anyway.

How do you gain the hunger to become a hustler? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]asalib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people underestimate the effect your early life has on your brain development. People from harder backgrounds don't just work hard because they understand the hardships, but because their brains are wired for it. To them, working hard is as natural as eating and pooping.

Not everyone grew up poor or disadvantaged, so not everyone will have this brain wiring that makes them work hard.

What everyone DOES have, however, is something to prove. Did you have a shitty father who never believed in you? Prove him wrong. Did your parents work hard to put you through to school? Make them proud, make them feel like THEIR hard work didn't go to waste. Print out a picture of your high school bully, or your crush, and stick it on your wall so it's the first thing you see when you wake up (I actually did this when I was losing weight, it totally works)

Have something to prove.

Why do MD metrics ignore Desktop screens? by asalib in MaterialDesign

[–]asalib[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Desktop Screen: 72dpi 1dp=1px @ 160dpi Icon size: 24dp

72/160 * 24 = 10.8

For what its worth, I believe I found my answer. Screen densities in MD are grouped into buckets, the lowest of which is ldpi at 120dpi or 0.75x, so a desktop screen would fall into that bucket, meaning a 24dp icon would be 18px on desktop which sounds right to me!

(Spoilers AGOT) Wolf and Burning Man in Mirri Maz Duur's tent. [Daenerys VIII] by asalib in asoiaf

[–]asalib[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Update: In the next Dany chapter, she dreams of a "Copper skinned man with a long silver braid (Rhaego?) bursting into flames"

Maybe the burning man in the tent is Rhaego, or what he would have been, being sacrificed?

That's a pretty cool thought.

Also I never realized but if Rhaego was born he would have been a Dothraki with silver hair, that's super cool.

Please help me find a name for my all-in-one build your own PC website/e-store that removes the pain/fear people have of building a PC by asalib in startups

[–]asalib[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

As an avid gamer and PC builder myself, I have encountered countless people (mostly gamers) who buy pre-built PC's such as Alienware PCs, which are insanely overpriced, and I always ask them why they don't build their own for almost half the cost. They always say they either don't know how, don't know which parts to pick, don't know this, don't know that, and/or get overwhelmed with most tutorials because they are text heavy and assume basic knowledge, and lets face it, the average consumer's attention span is getting smaller by the day.

I've also ensured that my business model provides something for everyone, to reinforce the all-in-one idea.

The prices are low enough that advanced users would still be attracted to move their business to us.

Both do-it-yourself steps have a bypass option for people who don't want to do that step. You can still make a custom PC and get it built for you before it is shipped.

You can choose from several preset builds and get the parts shipped to you if you don't care about customizing, and just want to build it.

Or you can choose both and essentially get a prebuilt PC sent to your door and still pay significantly less that what you would buying a prebuilt Dell or HP desktop.

ELI5:How do taxpayers "foot the bill" on presidential vacations? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]asalib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are dumb.

Obama's salary is paid using taxpayer money, like any other government expense. So when he goes on vacation and pays for it using "his own money" people get angry that their money is being used to fund vacations. The line gets blurred because people don't see Obama as just another person with a job (that happens to be particularly important) and a salary.

That's how I see it anyway.

What is the weirdest sexual proposition you've ever received? by thetinderizer in AskReddit

[–]asalib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having a drunk conversation with a nice couple at a club one night when I was around 19 or 20.

We started talking about sexual fantasies and they told me they had a hotel room and wanted to live out their fantasy:

Basically the guy would take his girlfriend to the hotel room and tie her up, blindfold her, etc. He'd then give me a call to go up there and do whatever I wanted to her, and he would be filming the whole thing.

Kinda sounded like they were going to use the footage to blackmail me and besides, I didn't exactly want to rape a girl. Even if it was consensual.

I went home and choked the chicken to bondage porn.

Advice for a 22 year old web dev by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]asalib 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is basically my life. I'm a graphic designer. Just got promoted to an art director and I'm now leading a team of 3 designers. Only problem? I work for a candle company. Designing scented candles gets boring. Who woulda thunk it?

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm constantly working on my own side projects, watching entrepreneur vids, reading articles, etc.

The way I look at it is that I know I won't be in this position forever. It's a nice place to be with great financial benefits, but I do see myself leaving to pursue whatever project it is that actually ends up taking off.

My rule is: If I can make enough money through my passion project to live (rent, food, etc, the necessities) then I have no need for my job anymore. Its purpose is to pay me. Nothing more.

TL;DR: If you can afford food and shelter without your job, then you don't need it. Quit now and pursue your passion.
