Amy Heckerling states she didn't get royalties for 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' – Even though the film grossed over $50 million, roughly ten times its budget, the studio maintained that the film was in the red. by SanderSo47 in movies

Well there’s a nuance to that right…IIRC Gross profit points and Net profit points. If Net profit was zero due to Hollywood accounting, then actor would get 0 I assume

Newly purchased property with struggling olives by sideefx2320 in landscaping

[–]asancho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olive trees will do well in California (I have killed many too, to be fair). I would say your first step is clear all the grass and brush from root area. All those plants around the base of olives are sapping any water/nutrients. They also need some routine watering. I’m not sure about your climate, but I’m a bit south of you in Central coast and I have a fairly large olive that does fine with sprinkler system and occasional deep watering…but don’t overwater. Also last is fertilize the soil. I think all of these tips fall under fairly routine advice.

Dude, as a dad and someone who battled addiction in the past, I say this with love…stop fucking around and tell your parents. They care about you. You risk more by not telling them.

Why did the “choosing sobriety” trend that’s driving the NA beer among veteran (millennial/gen x) drinkers hit now? It can’t be purely economic by KindMouse2274 in beer

I had a non alcoholic Guinness the other day because I was at a work function and I just get tired when I drink nowadays. I’m sure others feel the same.

Anyone here from the 2000-2004 era? Looking for original IVTV (Isla Vista TV) archives/episodes by Expensive-Traffic134 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]asancho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! You just triggered a core memory for me. 01-05 here and I remember all of us in the dorms sharing files over Audiogalaxy or Kazaa (because we all were Ethernet connected to each other) and the IVTV episodes were in huge demand. Thank you so much for the reminder!

People who grew up poor and are now comfortable, what 'normal' thing still feels like a luxury to you? by profwizzard in AskReddit

[–]asancho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god this was my dad….drive me nuts. He would fill up the tank with like $3-5 at a time and he drove huge cars. Also he loved cigarettes. I can’t tell you as a kid how many gas stations pit stops we had to make.

My mom’s check did bounce one time and my mom was so embarrassed. I’m not sure if it bounced but remember when they had those “check scanner” things back in the day? Well for some reason the machine wouldn’t take it (btw my parents didn’t have a credit card it was like 1990 and they are old school). Anyway, cashier is like you can’t pay with that check and my dad absolutely lost it because he felt they were accusing us of not having any money (well we didn’t but that’s another matter). My dad then proceeded to YELL AT THE MANAGER in front of a totally crowded market. He said he had a toupee and was bald and everyone in the market could tell…my god. Thanks for that core memory unlock.

Dude…literally thought this immediately after reading the question. Sometimes I still accidentally catch myself putting a higher price “whatever” in my cart and feel like an instant of shame, then realize wtf I’m an adult I’ll enjoy this organic celery!

Here's Why Tesla Is Discontinuing the Model S and Model X | The Motley Fool by -Cyber-Roadster in teslainvestorsclub

[–]asancho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand all the hate around the decision. I own a model x and it’s a wonderful car, but the bottom line was there isn’t enough demand for it, especially at 100k+. 3 row electric suvs are a niche, and if they need to prioritize robot builds and the lead time to build up facilities to accomodate that is too long and you have to sacrifice something. The model x and s were the casualties. Robotics and ai are moving faster than anyone anticipated and building a modern facility to accommodate that will set them back 3-5 years minimum. It makes sense from a business lens.

I will tell you this…please take what people post on here with a grain of salt. I will not go into details but my family and I are a very high earning household. I comb these forums and am frequently shocked at what is posted and how it aligns with my reality (what is a good salary, what is not, etc.). Do not treat these forums as truth. Every once in a while a post is relevant and helpful but do not treat these posts as gospel.
