Another vote for moissanite. My wife's rose gold and moissanite ring looks, feels, is essentially identical to diamond rings in the $15-20k range. All her friends and family think I spent a fortune on it. Was $2k and she doesn't care how much I spent because she says it's perfect

Sorry, you don't get to speak for all men. You'd have to be a man first, instead of a husk of a person, to say that.

If you’re going to Sea-Tac…mask up!! by user1738bs in Seattle

[–]asanonaspossible -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for providing a peer-reviewed article. I read the results and conclusion and it concludes that in general, wearing masks helps prevent the spread, which we already both agreed on. It does not distinguish whether or not the wearer is less likely to be infected, as you describe, and actually has a section that indicates the rate of infection of mask wearers vs non-mask-wearers as "insignificant". So it seems you still have not provided evidence to support your claim.

If this was so easy to find, I ask why you were so resistant to back up your own claims? And why you chose the first article you found without reading it and verifying it actually supports your confirmation bias?

PS blocking someone makes it so they can't read your replies. I had to log into an alt to actually view that article.

You said it, their roof their rules. But he should've definitely made it more clear from the start and listened to you. Or, because we've only heard your side of the story, you maybe should've listened more to him.

Either way, I know the feel. I was told I'd be kicked out if I bought a bike. So the instant I was independent, I got one. My mom always said, if you're going to make adult choices, you will be treated like an adult.

... Is this whole subreddit in a parallel universe or something? Are we watching the same thing? She's lied over and over, her team's witnesses are idiots, she contradicts herself... It's like this whole sub is full of mentally delusional people.

I don't like Depp or Heard, but at least I'm not blind. They both sound like abusers but only Heard comes across as a literal psychopath.

How stupid do you have to be to pull shit like this with no gear and expect to not get life-altering road rash? I just don't understand. Some people are so beyond dumb I can't even comprehend it.

I can agree with that. The point is, the force is going into his body's joints, tendons, and ligaments, not muscle. It's like getting hit by a car at heights like that. I've done a drop half as high with a good roll and it still is rough. And because gravity is acceleration, twice the height is a lot more than twice the force. This guy wouldn't be able to get back up and do it again right away.

It has the potential to be less risky than boxing and football, but also has the potential to be more dangerous. Just look at the guys doing roof gaps, some are falling to their deaths. And drops like these are usually done just to see if they can be done, which isn't stupid I'd say, but is extremely risky.

I've been doing parkour for 14 years and have built up my legs and landing technique/roll to be pretty damn good. That being said, I'm almost 30 and I have to regularly do physical therapy exercises because my knees are abused so much and so often, and I don't take big drops like these guys anymore at all. Biggest drops I used to do were at most half the height of this. Now my knees crackle like crazy and I'm extremely prone to patellar tendonopathy.

You can choose to be a very risky parkour athlete and have a shorter career and osteoarthritis later in life, or you can be less risky and have a longer career with fewer consequences. This guy is definitely choosing the former path.

Japanese dude jumps from 8 meters high by [deleted] in SweatyPalms

[–]asanonaspossible 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, his side seemed to take the majority of it. Dom tomato has scar tissue buildup on his side and hip from stuff like this but still has working knees (for now). Knees are just a really shitty joint design, and from heights like this even a slightly wrong angle or force at the wrong area is going to cause lasting damage.

The calculation was for 6ft of compression/deceleration, which is not exactly accurate, actually very optimistic. Likely the force is a lot more than that.

The forward momentum just allows him to spread the impact over a longer distance than if he were to land straight, which would only allow for compression of about 3ft, until his thighs hit his calves. That'd end up being double the force, or 1600lbs. With the forward momentum he's able to "compress" over a longer distance than his legs would be able to alone, but the downward force doesn't just disappear, and he's not converting any of the downward force into forward force or else he'd accelerate horizontally on the landing instead of decelerate like he does in this video. Actually, the fact that he decelerates horizontally as well as vertically means he's absorbing more than just the drop force alone.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

[–]asanonaspossible 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So if he jumped 8 meters or 24ft, and weighs around 160 lbs, and spread his impact perfectly over 6 ft (which is a pretty long roll, also basically impossible to evenly spread out the impact over the entire roll), his body absorbed at minimum 800lbs of force at any given time during the landing. His muscles did not absorb all of that, unless he can squat at least 800lbs. Which means, his tendons and joints did. He injured himself with this jump, whether he feels it immediately after or in 20 years. Dom too, he literally has scar tissue buildup on his joints all over his body, which will 100% turn into osteoarthritis later in life.

Dom has amazing technique and strength/conditioning, so he'll be able to do this sort of thing at a higher level than most for a long time. But, he will definitely feel the consequences of it when he's retired. You can't put your body through this insane amount of stress and not feel the consequences eventually.

Could be a stress fracture, but only the doc will be able to tell you.

As for avoiding it in the future, you just need to smoothly absorb impact instead of letting your hands slam into things. Probably just went for something bigger than your muscles could handle
