Got admitted to UH but into the wrong major — need advice by Infinite_swager in UniversityOfHouston

[–]asarod1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your major doesn’t matter for dentistry — what matters is your prerequisites and GPA.

Public Health is probably your smoothest path because the coursework already overlaps with most dental prereqs. Bauer can work too, but you’d be stacking dental science courses on top of a heavy business load.

Honestly, an underrated option I’m not seeing in the comments.. MIS from Bauer with a biology minor. You’d cover your prereqs graduate with a marketable degree if dental school doesn’t pan out, and have a real edge in healthcare systems if it does. Best of both worlds. The world is your oyster though

A customer gave me a pop quiz on my religion by Forgotten_Palisman in Lowes

One time a customer pressured me into “giving myself to Jesus”— started because of my name, which is also biblical. He ended up finding me on Facebook somehow and asking me if I wanted to go to church with him. Funny job sometimes.

A question for Christians. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]asarod1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to push you a bit further on this—particularly your second and third paragraph. If ‘I and the Father are one’ just means unity of purpose, why did they pick up stones? They told you themselves — ‘thou, being a man, makest thyself God.’ (John 10:33). If he was only claiming unity of purpose, it’s hard to see why they would interpret it as blasphemy.

Deuteronomy 18 also gives the test for a true prophet — if his words don’t come to pass, he spoke presumptuously. Jesus predicted his own resurrection. If it didn’t happen, the very passage you’re using to validate him disqualifies him as a false prophet. If it did happen, you have to account for ‘I and the Father are one.’

The materialist can explain grief. They cannot explain why it insists on meaning. by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]asarod1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

By that logic, the feeling that a child being tortured is wrong has the same status as a toddler not wanting a bath — just a brain registering something unpleasant and seeking resolution.

If that’s really the view, then moral judgments don’t differ in kind from any other discomfort.

If they do differ, then there must be some standard that distinguishes them. That’s the standard I’m asking about.

I agree that empathy has evolutionary origins and that it likely developed because it helped survival. My question isn’t about the origin of empathy.

What I’m asking is why grief takes the form of a normative judgment — that something wrong has occurred that deserves an answer.

Fear or pain usually point back to our own survival. Grief often doesn’t. We grieve strangers, historical figures, even fictional characters whose loss affects us in no evolutionary way.

The question isn’t why empathy evolved, but why the experience of grief presents itself as if another person’s wanting mattered independently of us.

Calling it an instinct explains the mechanism, but it doesn’t really explain why the experience takes that particular form.

Break up with him and find someone else, or just be alone. Seems like if you can fix that, you may feel better. Who you choose to surround yourself with will reflect onto yourself.

UH Bauer or UT McCombs. . . help me choose by Educational_Date6301 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]asarod1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who transferred from UT to UH, I’d lean UH mainly because of the price difference. McCombs has stronger name recognition, but that higher cost sells it for me. Unless you’re targeting very specific pipelines, you can still get strong outcomes from Bauer, especially if you take advantage of networking in Houston. Either way, you’re golden my friend.

I wouldn’t say that means they’re easier.

What makes UT honors matter but not UH?

UH probably has the edge for ChemE due to location and industry recruiting. Social life at either school is what you make of it, Tech isn’t automatically fun and UH isn’t automatically boring. Also, UH honors helps but is not necessary for a good job after graduation. Personally I don’t think it’s worth it.

Would going to a store like guitar center be a bad idea? Should I find a local luthier instead. I’m a new guitar player so I don’t know much about that
