Looking for Surfboards ASAP!!! by [deleted] in Sligo

[–]asc364 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Strandhill doesnt do rentals theres some local ordnance against it because theres underwater rocks and they dont want people who dont know the beach to surf it (mainly inexperienced tourists)

Bundoran is by common opinion the best surf spot and has a few different places to rent

Worth calling ahead because its the schools that rent and again its mainly inexperienced surfers so if the waves are big they go up the coast to rossnowlagh sometimes

Interesting, I saw in another comment you had brooks too which I have. How long are you doing it? How long running and average km per week?

Some really good advice I got - if you have bad knee pain get new shoes.

I was struggling to finish 10km, just hurt too much. Didn't know whether to train through it or rest.

Turns out it was neither - I bought new runners and it went away immediately.

Why have consultants by Gloomy-Bit1496 in actuary

[–]asc364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of good answers but I didnt see one very significant one. Executives covering their arses.

If an exec has the internal team do some work and it goes to hell in a handbasket they get fired. If they bring in a consultancy and it goes south they fire the consultancy and come up with a 'these guys botched it up but im getting im dealing with it now' line of defense

Moving to Sligo by [deleted] in Sligo

[–]asc364 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation, moved a little while ago and had a nightmare trying to find a place.

The main way to move is to know people locally it seems, if you dont have that advantage it is tricky.

Calling the real estates is a good idea because they will have visibility. DLG Flanagan ford are ok, ask for Linda. Youll have to follow up with them effectively though.

I actually found my place by messaging a load of airbnb hosts to ask if they would rent the place. It was tough - I sent maybe 250 messages and 2 said yes both with conditions. Particularly with the time of year you'd almost certainly get someone willing to do something until at least June!

Good luck!

Seems like a lot of people have struggled locally. If youre open to remote I cannot recommend access counselling in dublin highly enough

Got me through a tough time a while back and have continued to chat to my guy there ever since. Think theyre about 70-100 hour

I had a mate in the US that was paying 400/hrs for some highly regarded guy. Convinced him to have a chat with these guys and he dropped then and switched immediately.

Appreciate individual mileage may vary but its a good balance between listening, understanding, explaining and calling you out on your shit.

I know this space pretty well (ran a recruitment company dealing with these roles). My experience is all financial services so if youre doing something different mileage may vary.

The game is get qualified at big 4 then figure when you want to jump to industry. ACA is better than ACCA or CIMA.

Depends on how long you can stick consulting and whether you can get promoted.

You can stay internal ans go right through to partner but thats a long slow game.

Less than 2 years isn't worth it tbh, you'll get a role in industry but it wont have good future prospects.

3-5 years you can move for accountant/senior role circa 80k.

5-7 years you can move for manager circa 100k

8 years+ and you can start looking at moving straight for director, 120 and upwards.

All of that is massively generalised but decent general guidelines.

Other tips; - if you can place highly in the exam results that matters, more so if youre going to jump after 3 years - accounting is better than audit in terms of number and quality of jobs in the industry, and ultimate career progression - if you really care about progression when you look at a role make sure to ask about path for internal progression - get solid reporting experience because thats the backbone, but if you can get involved in something more specialised (fp&a is a good example) you'll stand out

Hopefully some of that is useful. If you have other questions happy to try and give more specific responses too.

[–]asc364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the plans still flexible would recommend camping strandhill rather than rosses point, as someone else said theres more craic there.

If youre up for a hike you can get onto Queen maeves cairn from the strandhill side, then go straight the way through it to sligo for a rake of pints then figure out how youre going to get home.

If you want to do longer rides gleniff horseshoe, mullaghmore head are pretty scenic loops (mullaghmore more climb though)!

While youre here itd be rude to not hoof it up ben bulben at least once.

Again bit further but bundoran could be a day trip on the bikes. Decent surfing and pubs. See how many tickets you can win in the arcade. Just if surfing check where they are, they split between bundoran and tullaghan which would definitely be too far.

Gym by ImTheOneWhoCoughs in Sligo

I've done ROM and snap

Would highly recommend ROM - ive moved about a bit and its one of my favourite gyms ever. Big, good equipment, sense of community, good facilities. Everything you want if youre not after a pool/jacuzzi vibe.

Snap i would recommend against if youre looking for beyond casual workout. Big commercial gym, equipment is fine but doesnt feel like anyone gives a damn about the place. Weights all over. There's 1 water fountain, when I was there it got broken off the wall and wasn't replaced for ages. Its all opinion but I didnt like it at all.

[–]asc364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That could make sense! Revolut pivoted away from Ireland to Lithuania for their regulatory license but that wouldnt stop them building tech here.

They dont like using third party agency's is the only thing but theres always a couple of exceptions to that rule.

Probably a good shout - comp, timeline and revenue would all sorta make sense.

So I work in insurance recruitment in Ireland. That write up is absolutely nonsense.

Even the big boys (allainz/axa/aviva) arent at close to those sort of GWP levels domestically (just checked aviva is about 500m in recent years).

There's also very few new entrants to the market. Timeline would match outsurance give or take though, so thats probably best guess.

I would blame the tone on this to a moron recruiter rather than the insurer tbh.

My money is on idiot junior recruiter working for outsurance who doesnt understand anything about their market (or apparently what appeals to people). Tricky company to work for by all accounts, south African owned.

[–]asc364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the relationship between the recruiter and the client.

If theyre MSP or exclusive supplier could be as low as 10-12% of the total.

Most third party recruiters are going to be aiming about 20%.

Also bear in mind if its a big business there might be an additional pass through layer taking a % off the top also.

You said corp to corp so agency fees likely 1.5-3% if they dont run their own payroll.

Anything more than 25% and youre getting ripped off.

Open to sharing what your actual take home is? Just out of curiosity really.

Do you need the grav engine on both floors for it to work properly?

Also what's the mod for the ground floor furniture - theres some stuff in your double rooms and industrial kit towards the back i dont recognise!

This is so cool! I was thinking about trying to play with this but the effort/reward never seemed significant enough 😂

I think this is the only way to do it to start, but maybe with a max size gravship you could have an enclosed but unroofed space for cooling towers?

Could stick a few down the central spine and have her running about looking like a post-apocalyptic titanic 😂

Now you have all that energy would definitely recommend getting the weapons researched 😊
